Seven Psychopaths (2012)- 5/10 I have a bitter taste in my mouth after this film. On one hand, it's a clever piece of metafiction that pokes fun at Hollywood's stereotypical and inaccurate portrayal of mental illness and sociopathy. On the other hand, it's a film that falls into its own trap and it totally pussies out half way through. At the same time though I have an argument against my own feeling it pussying out. For a film that carries itself on the script, the script fucking sucked. At the half way point in the film, when they are discussing the screenplay in the car and Colin Farrell says he wants the film to build up to a shootout (which it does) then just end with them in the desert (which is sets up), but then here's where it either pussies out or flips it again - it ends in a shootout predicted by Sam Rockwell's character who has suddenly realised he's in a movie lol. I suppose this works as a double bluff, a twist on the predictability set up again, but I dunno. No matters its intentions, it was a let down. The film was silly and played on cliché too much, to the point that it stooped from being satire to being a psychopath movie. The script was overall quite messy, honestly. Its pacing is terrible and the dialogue is AWFUL (which is a shame considering how great the dialogue is in In Bruges) There is little to the characters, the twists are predictable (which is hilariously ironic tbh) and it's silly although I can tell it's on purpose. Doesn't give McDonagh a free pass for shoddy writing just cos he kinda meant it to be that way sorta. it was totally all over the place. It played on the fact that "it's just a movie" and the whole "im breaking the rules" things too much and didn't really have much pay-off for it. Also using a screenwriter as your vessel is so fucking obvious and overdone which is another irony in McDonagh's writing. Visually the film was not very good either tbh, shots were really badly framed a lot of the time and there were a fuckload of overexposed shots. Overall a disappointment that I would not recommend, even if you liked In Bruges because this doesn't come close in any way, shape or form. However I watched this with my 15 year old brother and did find it pretty hilarious when he said that the character ideas and the flashbacks (specifically the Jack of Diamonds one) that made up a lot of the first act were cool as hell considering the point of it was clearly to poke fun at that kind of stuff I really liked Tom Waits' story though, and the Vietnamese one was great as it went on. Christopher Walken's monologue about it was the best part of the film.

aw shit. It's cos the advanced editing on this site is fucked (or it is for me lol). If I copied it with the title which was bold then it bolded the whole thing and wouldn't un-bolden so i removed it and forgot to put it back (cos the edit box clears my entire posts :I) it also destroys the "edited" thing. fixed it now
Devil's Knot 3/5 A very middle of the road movie. Not bad, but not good either. Colin Firth did a good job as a Southern private investigator, didn't slip up on his accent. The direction was the biggest problem, I think. The story was pretty good, the performances were good, but the direction felt very unfocused. A couple good shots, but they could have done so much better. It's like eating tiremisu out of a can; on the whole, it isn't a bad thing, but there's nothing like something that is homemade. That's what this feels like, a film made out of the can.

I enjoyed Seven Psychopaths.
I enjoyed Seven Psychopaths.
I guess it could've been enjoyable to a certain degree, but for me it was mostly incoherent and boring. What's worse, was that some people had high hopes for this movie, seeing how In Bruges was one of the best comedies of last decade.
saw Dr Jones 1 and 2 on blu-ray today. goddang that's one heck of a good restoration m8. And I haven't seen Temple of Doom in a long while and I almost had a heart-attack at how awesome it is. It really is a symphony of colour, mystery and madness in the quickest 2 hours ever. :) I think we as a whole don't fully comprehend the greatness of Indiana Jones 2. Let's see how good they restored the last one in the trilogy.
Eugh I just found out The Faults In Our Stars is a movie now gj John Green ur gonna poison even more young adult minds telling them cancer is romantic and being depressed is cool!! [editline]5th April 2014[/editline] I'd fight John Greens idealised ass
The 400 Blows - 9/10 Jules et Jim - 8/10
Heist This was my first experience with a Mamet film. Now I can see what this whole "Mamet speak" thing is all about. And I have to say, the dialogue was amazing. Character interactions were the best part of this movie. The opening job was exciting and set up the film well. I like how for the big "Swiss job," the viewer gets no details until it actually happens. However, one thing I didn't really like was the constant twists and yanks and all the changes. There were so many, it made my head spin. Overall, give it a watch if you like heist movies or if you want an introduction to David Mamet.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty 6.5/10 It has some good things in it, first of all the photography and soundtrack were surprisingly good, some really nice colours and beautiful shots and the music fits perfectly. The story is a bit all over the place, it has some good ideas but suffers from the cliche syndrome. Overall it was very relaxing and heartwarming, but ultimately it could have been a better movie if it didn't stick to a very formulaic hollywood story.
It had such a weird timing and development, it constantly felt like they cut out some scenes to me.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 1979 Recommended for fans of old school animation. 8/10
Indy 3 is best Indy. I respect Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it was never my absolute favorite. Temple of Doom is fucking hardcore. I seriously don't get why so many people say it's the worst. Some even put it below Crystal Skull and that blows my mind.
just saw 3, really is restored to perfection... having grown up with the vhs it boggles the mind. great trilogy.
Trance um, i think i know what was going on. Either way it was beautiful.
Grand Budapest Hotel 8.5/10 super charming, epitomically Wes Anderson. in fact i think it might be the most Wes Anderson Wes Anderson film there is. interesting music, beautiful sets that look like toys (because half of the sets are miniatures), variable aspect ratio and color format, static but dramatic cinematography for almost everything, a cavalcade of visual motifs, details added purely for artistic merit, a lot of long pauses etc, you've probably already made up your mind before reading this, but it's worth a watch for a fun, creative story
Man of steel 4/10 This is the only non-3D movie that gave me an real headache Red letter media comparing this movie to 3 hours of white noise is so true
watched Swingers surprisingly good, for a movie with Vince Vaugn. shows he can actually act well if he wants to. Really good writing, and some hilarious moments (the ending oh god). Something most men can connect to, yeah it's really a mens movie. I'd go as far to say it's one of the best of its kind.
jesus christ imdb forums are cancerous
La Vita é Bella Highly recommended. 10/10
I just watched this and agree 100% with you, very funny movie, and I too rate it 10/10. I think there's an English version too.
Captain America 2 has officially removed the memory of Iron Man 3 from my mind. I like how Marvel is finally able to make a good 'Phase 2' movie (although Thor 2 wasn't bad, it was a okay movie). Also Indy 2 is my favorite movie in the Indy franchise too.
Iron Man 3 was pretty good, though!
ParaNorman One of the best movies of 2012.
King of Thorn 3/10 What a waste of two hours, my girlfriend said that the movie might be decent but overall it's just a messy movie that doesn't know what it wants to be. The concept is kind of neat but it gets for to complex and overly complicated in the end just for the sake of being complex. The plot is nonsensical during the end, new plotpoints are being mentioned during the movie but never really explained that much. The characters are annoying and behave absolutely nonsensical. Furthermore the movie uses such cliches, it's unbearable during the end. The art style was great at start but at some point they started to animate everything with pc instead of drawing everything. Which got really annoying.
La Casa Muda Well deserved runners up for the Oscars. 9/10
Iron Man 3 was pretty good, though!
To me it was never, like Pops described, it was a bad sour taste in the Marvel series. I've only seen it once since the theatre and never plan to watch it again
iron man 3 was a gem among a sea of terrible marvel films
here we go
I refuse to believe the winter soldier is that good after how mediocre the first one was.
here we go
he's not wrong, most marvel films were pure awful the only good marvel films were winter soldier were winter soldier, iron man 1&3, X2 and to a smaller extent first class
