Reservoir Dogs 9.0/10 Quite gruelling and relentless in its violence and a striking reminder of how badly things can end up in the world of crime
ur just dumb sorry kill list is the best British horror film made in the past 10 years and i would say that Wheatley is probably one of the best British directors working today
Well then maybe I shouldn't watch British horror films then because Kill List was super disappointing!!! There's obviously some merit to the concept the Director had. There's credit due that he had an idea and went against the grain. But I couldn't care less about the main characters, leading me to not care about the events that occurred, and what might have caused them.
Welcome to the Dollhouse Brilliant film. Somewhat stored away in the mid-90s films so it's probably tough to track down these days. I think to this day this is very relevant, and will really cause a nice bit of conflict about who you are and how you grow as a person.. it questions aspects of school life and family life, how you treat people and how you can develop by the decisions you make. It's a very strong film that will be shelved due to its age and possibly the main characters lack of mass appeal. She isn't the confident one who strides through and commands her presence, she's somewhat a victim and an aggressor but there's so many problems that tug her from having a decent middle-school life. It's this era in someone's life where they have to really break through initial challenges in order to get through to the other side. I thought it would be the average schmaltzy... "nerd gets bullied, is redeemed at the end", but it does things so many things I didn't expect, and it keeps me thinking who should I really blame for her mistroubles and on top of this... very good performances hold this film up. Well worth checking out.
best part of that movie is the assembly in the auditorium with the spitballs and the principal's office afterwards also, the whole movie is on youtube here
Goodfellas Who knew the same robber from Home Alone 1 & 2 could be a dangerous psychopath with rage issues? Also, Samuel L. Jackson looked really different as a skinny dude. 10/10
You might want to give Casino a try if you liked Goodfellas, same director and with Joe Pesci and De Niro in similar roles but is quite different.
I always think that if Goodfellas and Casino were people, they'd be brother and sister.
The Addams Family Values A well done sequel. 9/10
Moon 8/10 Sam Rockwell's bare ass made this awkward to watch with my mom
Oh please, I'm watching GoT with my family. :v: [editline]10th April 2014[/editline]
Escape Plan Truly not bad m8. This is somewhat of a landmark in terms of Hehr Schwarzy films because... believe it or not.. he actually fucking speaks his language for the first time in his career. Really? Only now they realise this? Anyway, it's got a good calibre within the story, surprises me this kind of thing wasn't done before. They could have made it more intriguing and technical but then the attention spans would have dropped for arnolders. That being said, it's slightly above the consensus ratings or they got it right, quite decent.
I watched this when I was really bored and had nothing better to do. I didn't even know it had Schwarzenegger in it. I watched it mainly for Jim Caviezel and didn't expect much, but it was very enjoyable and the [sp]it's all on a ship[/sp] twist was pretty well done IMO.
Dunno where to ask this: What do you guys consider is the best Wes Anderson film?
Late but they're all amazing I personally think The Royal Tenenbaums is his best, or at least it's my favourite because it's probably his most dramatic piece of work This scene sold it for me: Steve Zissou is great if you prefer style over substance
There is plenty of substance to Steve zissou imo. The relationship between Bill Murray and Owen Wilson is brilliantly crafted, the themes of maternity and birth, and how it makes you feel the way Murray does at the start when you get to the end is masterful. [editline]10th April 2014[/editline] I've not seen tenenbaums yet but it's on my list. Seen most of his films now and I've loved them all.
I have to agree with Mikey, Life Aquatic is my favourite Wes Anderson film, but I haven't seen The Grand Budapest Hotel yet.
moonrise kingdom remains my favorite "I'll be outside, I'm gonna go find a tree to chop down"
Thinking about going with the girlfriend to see Oculus, not sure if it's gonna be waste money or not?
Most horror movies are a waste of money these days. The only horror movie that i have been thoroughly impressed by in the last 5 years or so was The Conjuring. It was a great horror movie.

I mean, the girl from Doctor Who? I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to take her seriously, while I remember her jollying through space and time.

The Evil Dead remake isn't bad either, more gore porn than actual horror movie, but I guess that was the same with the original.
I haven't seen that but Drag Me To Hell is great too.
Saw it. It was pretty good, ending kind of got cheesy. [sp]what with the talking goat and such[/sp]
The Evil Dead remake isn't bad either, more gore porn than actual horror movie, but I guess that was the same with the original.
Funny, when I saw the original before the remake, I thought they were pretty similar. Of course the original was a lot more bad ass, even if it was cardboard-e. I'm thinking Oculus will either be shock scares, or a decent atmosphere. Although I can usually not immerse myself with a fair amount of others in the theater, bloody annoying most of them. Rottentomatoes(if you judge off of that), gave it a %76 fresh. So, that's decent, I'd consider for a modern horror movie. The category isn't that high. Paranormal Shitivity Fucked Ones got a %39 rotten. Which I agree with. Who knows.
Saw it. It was pretty good, ending kind of got cheesy. [sp]what with the talking goat and such[/sp]
The whole movie is cheesy. That's part of why it's great.
I think that if a horror movie has any cheesiness in it, it stops being horror and is instead a parody of one or just a bad movie.
Have you ever watched a Sam Raimi horror film? Cheesy horror is his whole schtick, and he makes it work.
I think that if a horror movie has any cheesiness in it, it stops being horror and is instead a parody of one or just a bad movie.
Like Cabin in the Woods?
The Evil Dead remake isn't bad either, more gore porn than actual horror movie, but I guess that was the same with the original.
Oh FUCK, how could i forget that. My god that was my favorite film of the year. Loved every scene. [editline]10th April 2014[/editline]
I haven't seen that but Drag Me To Hell is great too.
Also another good one. Man i think i stretched that "last 5 years" part a little to much :v:
Have you ever watched a Sam Raimi horror film? Cheesy horror is his whole schtick, and he makes it work.
i dont think the original The Evil Dead was supposed to be cheesy, but the technology of the time and the budget he had made it so.
While on the topic of horror films... You're Next 4/5 When I first saw the trailer for this, I thought it was going to be a load of shit, but damn if it didn't deliver. A very good slasher movie. [editline]11th April 2014[/editline]
Also another good one. Man i think i stretched that "last 5 years" part a little to much :v:
There are good horror films, but there haven't been any amazing horror films in a long while, like The Thing, or Alien. Event Horizon even.
Alpha Papa Fucking hilarious, I love Steve Coogan
Let The Right One In is a horror I'd say qualifies as amazing and one of the best in the genre and that was 2009 or something
Let The Right One In is a horror I'd say qualifies as amazing and one of the best in the genre and that was 2009 or something
I always confuse 'Let the Right One In' with 'Do the Right Thing' and it makes me laugh to imagine Spike Lee in a vampire horror movie set in midsummer Brooklyn
Have you ever watched a Sam Raimi horror film? Cheesy horror is his whole schtick, and he makes it work.
Yeah, I have. I mean there's 3 types of horror movies, those that legitimately terrify you, those that you'll be scared sometimes but mostly you're giggling or experiencing non-terror-related emotions, and those that just make you angry and dismissive.
