The Beat That My Hard Skipped 8/10
A lsmall property dealing crook has to decide between "buisiness", his passion for the piano, love and the care for his aging father.
-2 For getting a bit lengthy at times but apart from that as brilliant as Jacques Audiard is.
Also I'm so glad I watched it in subbed original sound, after 7 years i still know some french from school.
The Last Exorcism Part II
Beside an over to the top ending an OK sequel.
7/10
The Exorcist
This is how an Exorcism movie needs top be.
Some unforgettable scenes, but also copied too much.
9/10
The Art of Getting By 3/10
This movie made my blood boil and I have to be honest I didn't finish it but if you're a teacher and you would have to explain the meaning of the word "pretentious" to someone show them this movie.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 9/10
Damn good stuff. A little shaky at parts (both in plot and cinematography) but when it was good it was really good. Shame we didn't see more of the Soldier - Stan did a fantastic job as the menacing mercenary. I liked some of the smaller bits, too - the return of [sp]Zola[/sp] was well-done and I liked seeing Cap in the WWII costume again (still the best Cap suit). Also Falcon was great.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues - 7.75/10
This is a good movie to watch on the weekend with your buddies. It's a pretty dumb movie, but I was laughing a lot. Some gags didn't work as well (I didn't find Kristen Wiig's character very funny, the dinner scene wasn't great, and the fight felt forced) but the weak gags were almost always balanced out by a humorous one (psychatry/pyschic, humorous cameos). I really enjoy the blustering buffoon character type, and the mile-a-minute delivery of jokes.
Anchorman 2 had exactly one funny moment.
The Doors - 8/10
insane watch to say the least, it sort of plays out like a much better version of Wolf of Wall Street combined with pretty amazing acting and great music
I haven't really the time to write properly about these films, which is a shame because of what they are, but;
Days of Heaven (1978)- 8/10
Terrence Malick's sophomore effort, a big improvement over the decent Badlands. Thematically I feel there's a lot I missed on first viewing but I'll revisit it. I just really enjoyed the simple story and the characters and relationships, that were beautifully crafted even though they were not particularly well developed in the conventional sense (Malick literally stopped using a script several days into shooting and just kinda rolled with it, shooting a basic story and many other scenes and images, and essentially wrote the film in edit (which took two years). Visually, this is literally one of the best I've seen and I have no doubt in saying this is one of the most beautiful films ever made. Every single shot is utterly perfect. This is perhaps the best looking film I've ever seen. I was in awe of the visuals from start to finish. Truly gorgeous. Worth watching for the visuals alone, however there is so much more to this film than that. Highly recommended to those who are looking for something that is both cathartic and intellectually challenging, as well as people who love the potential beauty of cinema.
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)- 10/10
Wes Anderson is one of those directors who I simply couldn't say "this is their best film" because they are so consistently great in their own way every single time. I could see any of Anderson's films being my favourite but until now, I was consistently changing my mind. But now there's a bit less doubt, as oh my god. This film. I think it might be his best. I'd heard everyone say it, but Steve Zissou was perhaps my favourite beforehand were I to pick, which is generally one of his less acclaimed films. So I wasn't sure about what the hype meant. But I was just stunned by this film, blown away. It's one of the best I've ever seen. (It marks my 10th 10/10 rating on IMDB) Absolutely perfect.
The visuals were cool and brillaintly composed, maybe my favourite visually due to its restrain compared to his later films (however it's definitely his trademark style)
Perfectly cast, with great performances all round. One that struck me out of nowhere was Ben Stiller, when he said [sp]I've had a rough year, dad[/sp] oh maaan. Fucking shattering. I was just hit by a wave of emotion. His little voice break, the way he looked away, sauntered off. Perfect. That fuckin line is the best thing he's ever done. This is something I've talked about here before but Anderson always has that. Rushmore had [sp]i'm a little bit lonely these days[/sp] as Bill Murray leaves the elevator etc. Luke Wilson was one of the best as well, I wish he acted more. I loved him in this. His [sp]choke on the court[/sp] was brilliant. Gwyneth Paltrow as well who I'm not a big fan of was excellent. Everyone was great. Gene Hackman gave maybe the "best" performance though.
As expected as well the soundtrack was great, one of his best. Except from that Ramones song used but that's cos The Ramones are a really awful band. its use was fine.
I recommend this to everyone cos its one of the best films ive ever seen and it is so so so good
You could say Royal was his opus because each character has something definite and vital about them when it comes to the film itself.
But in all honesty it's just Wes being solid as ever. :)

also Grand Budapest just crossed the $100million barrier so it's his highest grossing film.
These films really should be grossing a whole lot more. And the film Her really under-achieved when it comes to getting the income. Such high calibre films yet it's the transforming 4s that get the bulk of the profit.
Tenenbaums is my favourite film of all time, I decided last week. I really love it.
The soundtrack is 10/10

It's the only Anderson film I've felt the need to watch more than once (Budapest was the first of his I had seen, I finished watching them in chronological order around three weeks ago. I wanted to watch Tenenbaums again since the first time I watched it) and it's just perfect. The part that will always stand out to me, and I don't know why, is the one where [sp]Royal and Chaz are riding in the ambulance as Royal dies [/sp]. It emotionally affected me, I had really got attached to the characters over the course of the film.
Anyway I just watched This Is Spinal Tap, pretty fucking good comedy.
11/10
Yeah the soundtrack was just amazing. The use of the amazing Elliot Smith during [sp]the best and most powerful suicide I've seen in a film[/sp] was absolute perfection and if I were to pick it was probably my favourite part of the film. That scene has earned a place in my all time favourites. tbh I don't have words for it.

it also reminded me how great The Velvet Underground are even if I never listen to them and also how terrible the clash and ramones are but he still made it work which is impressive to me
[editline]22nd April 2014[/editline]
also also how perfectly the lyrics capture every moment, like the characters talk through the music. Genius stuff. It's not even like it's thematically similar. It's like, this is what they want to say. This is their thoughts. Love it.
Starship Troopers Invasion
Started out pretty good but got cheesier and cheesier as it progressed, ending up at four-cheese pizza by the end. Enjoyable none the less, some really great animation
The Royal Tennenbaums is a prime example for how IMDB plot synopsis often makes a movie sound really dull.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
I can give the Nostalgia Critic right that this movie is awesome.
10/10
Doctorhooves has given more 10/10's in the past week than I have in my entire life
[editline]22nd April 2014[/editline]
also reviews are in for Transcendence and apparently it is bad. The most confusing thing is that after the trailer everyone is surprised. It looked awful from the get-go.
doctorhooves has transcended to level of "I like movies" no one else can ever comprehend o no
The Dark Knight - 9/10
god damn that was fantastic, easily one of my favorite movies at this point.
Roger Rabbit is a legit 10/10 tho
Home on the Range 2004
I had been waiting for this since the first title was Sweating Bullets for years ago.
But this is too rushed and sweet.
6/10
The Grand Budapest Hotel - 9/10
It was great. Truly. I dig Wes Anderson's style and aesthetics so for me it was awesome - cinematography, music, acting, all great. The entire story felt like Anderson's version of a blockbuster. It certainly is his biggest and most viewed film. But whether it's the best? Well, I'm not sure. He doesn't have any weak films, and this one could be considered as flawless and his strongest, but for me personally Moonrise Kingdom is a bit closer to my heart.

Also, I had the greatest laugh at the very beginning - the name of the country, Żubrówka. I wonder how many people knew what it means before looking at IMDb.
What's the country's significance?
Die Hard
9/10
Can't believe I've never saw this before
Robinson Crusoe
8/10
Great movie, a lot different from the book though.
What's the country's significance?
it's the name of a vodka
Die Hard 2 - 3/5
probably the 3rd or 4th time I've watched it (it was on TV so why not) still a pretty good action movie
Howl's Moving Castle - 5/5
holy shit, what a beautiful movie. the animation, music, art, literally everything is perfect.
it was also amusing to see christian bale as an anime

Watched the Winter Solider, enjoyed it quite a bit, but then I watched the Raid 2 right after, and that made the Winter Solider look so much like a childrens cartoon I couldn't take it seriously any more. The Raid 2 was just suuch a good action movie;
9/10 - Raid 2
7.5/10 - Captain America 2
I suggest people watch the Mission, it's a beautiful film. Ennio Morricone's score is also the best that surpasses his scores for Sergio Leone

Jacob's Ladder
8/10
Great film, but it felt a little too cluttered around the second half. Most of those great eerie horror moments were in the first half, so it winds up slowing down a lot around the ending.
The Cinema Snob Movie
7.5/10 (for a trashy indie comedy)
I found this more enjoyable than I was expecting, although I imagine it'd get a little too reference-heavy if you're not familiar with exploitation cinema. Trashily filmed, although that's probably somewhat intentional, but I liked the humour. Contained a mix of good actors, and some really awful ones.
Menace II Society
9/10
Wow what an ending. I did not suspect that at all.
