So every Tuesday or so my local cinema allows you to see a film that has been released some weeks ago for the fair price of three bucks. This time was the turn of Captain America: The Winter Soldier
8/10
It's really on pair with the Avengers and was a very nice break from that atrocity Thor 2 was
(Althought I now that critics had positive reactions towards it, I still consider Thor 2: The Dark World to be one of the worst superhero movies I've ever had the displeasure of watching: invasive and terrible humor, failed mixtures between action and comedy, the human characters are basically clowns that can produce powerful McGuffins at will just to allow the protagonist to win, many characters and potential conflicts are wasted, like lady Sif, and the villains suffer from a very quick decay through the movie)
No Country for Old Men - very good
City of Men (Cidade dos Homens) - pretty good
True Grit (2010) - pretty good
Se7en - very good
Fight Club - very good
I hadn't seen any of these films two days ago so I decided to sort myself the fuck out. And I'm glad I did, because they're all good
The Amazing Arachnid-man 2 - 7.5/10
Better than the first, and the first and third of the first series, but still not as good as Spider-man 2.
Also sort of annoyed that they didn't use [sp]Rhino until literally the last 2 minutes of the film[/sp] granted it probably would have suffered from Spider-man 3 syndrome, but still [sp]don't put him on the marketing material if this is gonna be the case.[/sp]
I finally got to see Django Unchained.
I hesitate to say it's a masterpiece because that would be too easy, but it's close. It's pacing is perfect, the editing, use of music, and acting were all probably the best tarantino has ever done, however, it was too much of a crowd pleaser, in my opinion.
Like it was so broad that I feel like to say "yeah, it's my favorite movie" would be giving it too much credit. Perhaps i'm not making much sense but that's just how I felt about it.
I love Christoph Waltz though, he was awesome.
Other things that were nice was Dicaprio as a straight-up fucking nuts person and the amazing action sequences. That shoot-out near the end is probably like the second best action sequence i've ever seen.
I'll give it a 9.5/10, I really loved it. I'm sad it took me so long to watch it.

If you think Django Unchained's pacing was perfect then man you're in for a disappointing second watch

Also to ride off this I thought Dicaprio was better than Waltz and if Waltz got the Oscar but Dicaprio was better does that mean Dicaprio deserved the Oscar? (no Philip Seymour Hoffman did but still)

but considering the existence of the majority of Tarantino films calling Django his best, especially for the reasons you listed, is baffling to me tbh
If you think Django Unchained's pacing was perfect then man you're in for a disappointing second watch
That's true, but it's also funny because it could've been fixed two ways - either by removing about an hour from the entire film, or by adding at least two.
I think it was worse than Inglourious Basterds and the only thing that saved this film was the fact that Tarantino gets the genre. He's the biggest fan of westerns in Hollywood, he understands what's so appealing about them, what makes the best of them the best movies of all time with infinite replay value and he uses it there. So yeah, I'd really love to see a Tarantino western that's not bound by restrictions like budget, screentime or actor's tight schedule. From what I heard about The Hateful Eight, it might be his masterpiece.
Inglorious Basterds is Tarantino's masterpiece
Inglourious Basterds is the best Tarantino film but also the least Tarantino-ish film which I think is a sign
I didn't say it was his best movie, Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown would win that. I just said in those things, they were the best in any tarantino film, in my opinion.
But we can all have our favorites. I'm aware Django is not quite as good on a technical level, but it was a lot more fun, to me.
Inglourious Basterds is the best Tarantino film but also the least Tarantino-ish film which I think is a sign
Jackie Brown is far less Tarantino-ish and my personal favourite. :)
Oh yeah I need to watch Jackie Brown again, not seen it in absolutely ages and only seen it the once. I'll need to get round to it.
Inglourious Basterds is the best Tarantino film but also the least Tarantino-ish film which I think is a sign
It's his most even film, the one and only that you can argue has no flaws and is exactly how it was intended to be - it's also right up with Reservoir Dogs a film that has the least of homages and can be easily understandable on its own. The first scene of IB will deservedly be remembered as one of the best in the history of cinema and it's the best one that Tarantino has ever directed and probably will.
We have this kind of conversation every 4 months, and every time someone comes and tries to argue how Pulp Fiction is 10/10 and definitely Tarantino's best.
But Pulp Fiction is the best cos Royale with cheese and racial slurs is what composes realistic dialogue
Jackie Brown is far less Tarantino-ish and my personal favourite. :)
It's more Leonard-ish in a very manly fashion, but because these two sub-genres are familar I'd say Jackie Brown has this very visible Tarantino mark.

in the tv version I watched they just cut the speaking audio whenever a curse word was said
Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie, fuck all of u
Nah but for real, I do think Inglourious Basterds is a great ass movie, but Pulp Fiction showed me a side of filmmaking I'd never seen before. My favorite movie of all time for a while was Pirates of the Caribbean 2. But I bought Pulp Fiction in 8th grade and it blew my fuckin' mind. I'd never seen a movie that stylized, or that meticulously structured. So I spent the next few months selling off the majority of the DVD's our family had that we didn't watch anymore, and replacing them with better ones. My first haul was Reservoir Dogs, Goodfellas, Crash, and City of God. And everything just spiraled from there.
I've said it before in the thread, but Pulp Fiction will never not be my favorite movie. It was too important to me to ever be usurped. Are there movies better than Pulp Fiction? Of course. Inglourious Basterds is one of them. But I don't think the best always needs to be the favorite.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Just give the rights back to Marvel Studios, Sony/10
I never got around to seeing The Amazing Spider-Man
should I?

do yourself a favour, no.
I'll never forgive Sony for not giving up the rights to Spiderman
Frozen, 7/10
it's an okay movie, but I don't like some of the choices they did.
[sp]felt we saw too little of Elsa. really wished we saw more of Anna and Elsa together rather than having Elsa shoving her away. wasn't too fond of Kristoff either, which made it a little worse imo. also too much singing, but that's in probably every animated Disney movie so can't really complain[/sp]
Enemy - Spiders/10
I had no idea what to expect going into this film, other than that I like the directors previous film, 'Prisoners'.
All I can say is what the fuck that was awesome but strange.
The Wolf of Wall Street - 8/10
Very good movie
are we saying the best tarantino movies? its reservoir dogs without a doubt
John Dies At The End
I haven't read the book [sp]although I have read "This Book is full of Spiders"[/sp] but I quite liked it. I imagine it's one of those films people either love or hate, and I'm squarely in the "love" camp. Mainly because the people look nicer in this camp. And they don't call you "faggot" as much
The book's and its sequel are both really good, and the titles are great conversation starters.
Class of Nuke 'Em High
Great schlock from Troma, the big name of schlock. Some good moments in this, especially towards the end. However, I still like The Toxic Avenger more. Good fun movie to watch and riff with friends. Give it a go, it's a fun ride.
Disco Godfather
Went into this with high hopes, came out slightly disappointed. Don't know if it was just my VHS copy or what, but the sound quality was really bad. I could barely make out the dialogue at points. I also missed a lot of the story and exposition stuff because we were talking during the movie. However, there are still some moments where this movie shines. There are some good lines and some excellent fight scenes. This was also my first blaxplotation film, an interesting step into the genre. Give it a watch if you want, but I'd recommend the DVD version in the hope that the audio is better.
Moonraker
3/5
I've been putting this one off for far too long. In the end, it was slightly better than I expected. Sure, the plot is batshit insane, and it's ridiculously cheesy, but it was rather enjoyable to look at. An odd compliment, but the production design was cool, if outdated. And I'll be honest, I got a laugh with the last pun.
