chronicle is totally a superhero movie [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] just not a conventional one
Yeah superhero films literally all have the exact same plot and the point of Chronicle was to make a superhero film that had a different story. And it did and it owned [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] Max Landis is great at being unconventional with conventional things his Peter Pan screenplay is fucking amazing. From the POV of Captian Hook and how his ship wrecked and he had to survive on a desert island and all that its cool as hell. Also he had a James Bond idea which owned I cant really remember it but I think he had a daughter. Sadly I think because he's always kinda out there and generally within genres/stories that studios consider "safe" they don't make his films. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] He's one of the best young screenwriters around but because no one funds his stuff no one really knows. Like he got hype around Chronicle but it's totally died down now.
Huh oddly enough i just watched Chronicle last night. Great movie imo. 8/10
chronicle isn't a "superhero" film, its a "superpower" film
its a subverted version of the superhero genre, but its still the same genre
The Game (1997) - 8/10, but that ending made me pretty angry, what a bunch of aholes.
its a subverted version of the superhero genre, but its still the same genre
You know what, never mind. I think I'm wrong about this. I think I was mostly led to believe that because a lot of the inspirations for the movie, you wouldn't exactly call superhero movies either. Carrie and Akira are certainly not superhero movies, and I feel like Chronicle is very similar to these movies. Of course, that doesn't mean that Chronicle isn't going to do it's own thing, and I can see where it has some nods to the superhero genre. At its core, though, I do believe that the film is less about subverting the superhero genre and the responsibilities power might bring and what one chooses to do with it, and more about exploring the life of a deeply troubled teenager and what might cause a person to reach their breaking point.
The World's End 6/10 The actions sequences were funny because they were like kung fu, but the characters are all middle aged men. The climax was also funny. The bad guys in the film felt like cheesy bad guys from Doctor Who. Elysium 7/10 Has Matt Damon playing as a disgruntled factory worker in modern day Los Angeles who decides to take his fight to the 1%. Dredd 6/10 Although derivative of the dystopian genre, the action romp was satisfying. I liked Karl Urban not as a physical, on film actor, but more as a voice actor for Judge Dredd.
American Hustle, 9.5/10 Saw this at the cinema in January and I liked it so much it became my first preorder of a film. Even more enjoyable on the second viewing than the first. Its fast becoming my favourite film and one of the greatest films I have ever watched.
Romeo + Juliet (1996) 8/10 Weirdest fucking movie I've watched in school. It's basically a Modernized version of Romeo and Juliet, the cinematography is CRAZY at the beginning you are just basically assaulted by zooms and cuts and random sped up scenes and stuff. Eventually though it starts calming down and it's decent then. But it kinda has it's own style to it, and is really trippy and weird at some parts. Decent movie, and it portrayed a timeless story in a original way, if you can get past the zaniness of it.
derivative of the dystopian genre
what does this even mean
what does this even mean
The Dystopian genre is about a world that is the opposite of Utopia. So a derivative of a dystopian genre would be something based off the genre of dystopia that is a little different.
im pretty sure he knows what a dystopia is however I'd say dystopia is very wide and even our society right now could be described as "dystopia". What I mean is what Corndog Ninja likely means- wtf is the Dystopia genre? It's not a genre, it's a setting. And setting is just a vehicle for story, which could be of any genre. Stalker, 12 Monkeys, Dredd, The Road, The Matrix, Dark City all take place in dystopian society
Mr. Nobody 10/10. Holy fucking shit what. Mindfucked and moved. I'm weak for stuff like this but jesus god damn. i need more like this stat
Synecdoche, New York
ive not seen Mr Nobody but from what I can tell yea I back Synecdoche, New York. One of the best films I've seen and one of the most brilliant screenplays I can think of.
thanks i love it when movies have less than a couple of paragraphs in the info and it just blows away blockbusters
what does this even mean
It's got all the generic elements of dystopia, like filthy, corrupted cities full of crime. Maybe what I typed wasn't precise enough, but what I meant to say is that the Dredd film has the generic elements of crappy near future settings.
Judge Dredd pioneered that aesthetic lol [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] through the comics obviously. Considering the film was very close to the comics, and how iconic the setting of Mega-City One is, it makes perfect sense for it to look how it did.
American Hustle, 9.5/10
Out. Now
GIVE ME MY LONGWORD *picks up shotgun*
that was the running gag throughout the entirety of my English class watching it. ^ pics from the film
