If you didn't like the first one, why would you see the poorly-reviewed sequel?
and why would you feel bad about that?
I didn't really think it was bad but that it just couldn't hold a candle to the original. Thats what really gave me a kick to the balls. I felt that if I had a saw that film aged eight I would of never got into Spiderman.
Reason I would feel bad i've seen some people consider it snobbish.
Noah
dunno, i've enjoyed it.
i mean, the story is p terrible, it's the bible after all but everything else works.
don't know how to classify it, tho. epic, drama, biblical?
Saw Synecdoche, New York after a few of you guys mentioned it. Really, really liked it
Second viewing of Eraserhead while reading some analysis on the symbolism behind it.
It makes a looooot more sense now. Still disturbing though.
[editline]1st May 2014[/editline]
It also drags on a bit too much. I know you need to bask in its ambiance or whatever but it's not really interesting to watch Henry walk down a sidewalk for 4 minutes. If it was more condensed it probably would've been just about an hour long.
the amount of people I've seen moan about that is fucking ridiculous its retarded lol. btw the dinners function pretty symbolically
Im aware of that, it's just...is it a french thing or what?
I get really queasy when people just fuckin STORE the food in their cheeks and continue to talk whilst this happens. I like the movie, it's nice, but its fucking distracting as hell.
The more I think back on Noah, the more things I find I didn't like about it.
The second half was superior to the first half, IMO. Also is it just me or did Russel Crowe play Noah AND Noah's dad from the opening?
I had no idea how I felt about Noah after I saw it, I still don't really. I've never felt so mixed about a movie in my life.
One thing I don't understand was the [sp] rock monsters in Noah [/sp]
Me and my friend were confused at this, one of the reasons why we didn't like the movie or got mixed reaction
Doctorhooves "funny" reviews stopped being funny like 3 pages ago

This post
Very informative and well worded, a real classic.
10/10
lets just go find threads from years ago and rate people in them in true doctorhooves fashion

[sp]the "watchers" were angels who decided to help humans survive and build their own civilization once they were banned from eden. for their behaviour, the watchers were punished and made into rock golems by god.[/sp]
A week ago my friends introduced me to Zombieland
7/10
It was just a decent (rather short, however) comedy movie with a good enough story and some genuinely entertaining moments. The presence of [sp]Bill Murray[/sp] as himself was also a nice touch
The Double - 8/10
I really like Ayoade's style as a director, and I'm a sucker for doppelganger stories which I'm pretty sure I said when I reviewed Enemy on here. Dunno if I prefer this or Enemy, though.
Bad Words 7.5/10
Very funny, easy going movie. Only problem is that [sp]Guy showed slumdog a pair of saggy black tits, i mean come on I'd think all tits were nasty after seeing those[/sp]
just saw A Clockwork Orange for the first time
preeeeeeetty good
Rush
good film.
Hilarious on the right off then ascends gradually into a more meaningful tale of rivalry. One of Ron Howard's better works. It does sting slightly but overall I felt it could have been better realised. Very well cast though, the dude from Inglourious fit so well into that character as well as the other fella.
Noah
Was VERY confused with the "rockformers" but then eased into the fact that the entire saga was highly fantastical in the end. It is spiritual and meaningful though as it gradually pulls through and characters envelope more.
To be totally honest, there couldn't be a more out of place film in a director's filmography than this... I honestly never thought Aranofsky would do anything remotely like this.
THERE IS one sin I did commit though, and that was... I was ACTUALLY supposed to see Spiderman 2, but 10 minutes in and I got a seriously weird feeling that I made the wrong decision and so walked out and went to see Noah instead for the lunchtime showing. Didn't regret that at all. :)
This is a flawed film, but I think the strengths make it a worthwhile viewing on that one occasion. I'll never see it again, but Connelly's performance was as real as it gets. The rest of the cast reminded me of something archaic and something out of a viking adventure or what have you... even though this was supposed to be a portrayal of humanity and challenge.
So I felt the war aspect was really misaligned with the film's message. Maybe I should actually read the holy boble.. Anyway this is also the first time I've seen a religious film that actually depicts the big bang.
Very confusing, ideologically but I took away from it what I could and lost all the cryptic remains.
The Addams Family
Uncle Fester steals the show.
8/10
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Johnny Depp does an entertaining Willy Wonka.
Some silly entertainment,
7/10
The Polar Express
More than a Christmas movie.
This is an experience on a large screen and a great sound system.

One thing I don't like about the internet is that it opens up so many doors to witness many terrible human acts
lol he probably thinks man of steel was good
but if you think THAT'S bad, IMDB comments are so much fucking worse
Yeah I feel I can say without pretention the dude doesn't know shit about cinema and that's like whatever, if you're not interested then cool I mean I know very little about sculptures as an art form, but it's such a stupid thing to say. What he means is he doesn't like films, he likes pretty colours. that's what I sounds like at least. Plus he doesn't know jack shit if he thinks films only started getting money put into them into the 80's, and if the only formula for great cinema is "money=good film". Go tell me Citizen Kane isn't a better looking film than 99% of cinema. Tell me how Passion of Joan of Arc isn't one of the biggest emotional experiences in film without using dialogue. How Persona isn't a captivating and deep exploration of humanity using only a beach house and two actors. Eughhh honestly I just don't bother with idiots who dismiss art so totally. It's terrible. The closest knowledge of sculptures I have is fucking vaporwave lol which I do love but man I don't just say "nah they all suck tbh" if I know shit all about any of it. It's such a wide generalisation that I just can't wrap my head around.
IMDb can be ok tbh since the trolls all suck and it's easy to spot them out. There's not much good discussion overall but sometimes there's nice questions and generally people are there because they like the film. The pool of intelligence does kinda lean towards shallow though lol

I think I made the right decision... it looked like a wax model gliding in the air, then all the people were made of wax too. Not great.

you gotta at least like North By Northwest or Chaplin films....
Not everyone will enjoy 2001, it's part an experimental film tbh.
Yea well you didnt even notice the blatantly obvious twist in Side Effects so that doesn't really console me
The Polar Express

Not really

haven't gone back that far, not my style really
black and white is one of my hate objects too, often it's so blurry i can't see shit

i really need it to be in my face, where all the puzzle pieces just fall together in the end
and i didn't even like the characters so that didn't help

That's really not the case with new restoration.
watch City Lights, it may be different from anything else you've seen but honestly that film will hit you like a rock and even a 3 year old transformers 4 fan can enjoy it.
I understand people drawing a line between "Before Citizen Kane" and "After Citizen Kane" or "After Streetcar Named Desire", because the differences between these 10 years are visible in all aspects of film - narrative, cinematography, acting, usage of sound, essentially everything is changed, and I understand people who won't get the old time feeling. Same thing is with "Sound" and "No Sound" - sure, they'll miss the greats by Charlie Chaplin or Marx Brothers, but it's not hard for me to believe that some people just won't enjoy it at all.
Any other boundaries, like "nothing before 80s" or "only movies from this century", are proofs of people's ignorance and nothing more. And those who didn't even watched anything from said period and already hate that? They're the worst.
Chronicle
This was a lot of fun. Teenagers putzing around with superpowers and [sp]proof that you can have a really good final battle between two supermen without tearing down half a city[/sp].
