I've held off seeing Cloud Atlas for literally 2 years, been biding good time. I've no clue what it'll be like.. but since I like parallel cinema and Tree of Life, I think it'll be heading my way. :)
I need a good sunday afternoon to let that film sink in, maybe this weekend.
I enjoyed the movie for the acting. I thought all the characters were cool. But damn seeing that in theaters confused the fuck out of me and my friends.
The Truman Show - 10/10 (Not the first time seeing it)
I love this movie. I love Jim Carrey. That's all I can really say about it.
speed racer was the kind of movie i thought i'd enjoy if i didn't take it too seriously but nope, its shite no matter how you look at it
i knew it would be horrible from the first trailer
this is what i get for having grown up on the old series, fuck i loved that show.
I had never seen the show and didn't know it was a show until recently but holy shit I hated that movie I saw it in the theatre and it was pain. its got a weirdly vocal and dedicated fanbase though. even Film Crit Hulk cited it as one of his favourite films (he wrote an article about the film- I've not read it lol but maybe I will, for new perspective)
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
8/10
Nice parody of slasher film tropes.
The Lincoln Lawyer - 7/10
hell of a good watch for what it was. i remember my middle school friend's sister forcing us to see all these chick flicks when i was like 12-13, with matthew mcconaughey being in a lot of them
i recall thinking the whole time - "wow, this guy's actually a good actor. he should be in better movies."
also i get a boner when i see nice 80s cars
[editline]d[/editline]
and yeah bryan cranston
now that I've actually gone and seen Breaking Bad I want to go back and rewatch all those movies with Bryan Cranston in them
Drive is another one
Gravity (2013)
Watched on my computer screen with my earphones. Probably not the best idea...was still cool though.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil

"Oh hidy ho officer, we have had a doozy of a day"
One of my all-time favorite movies.
Naked Gun
8/10
How the fuck have I never seen this before, even the intro is amazing

fucking genius
A Million Ways to Die in the West - 2/10
I honestly don't know what I was expecting, I only saw it cause a mate wanted to see it (He regrets this decision also)
Only part that made me laugh [sp]Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown working on the Delorean[/sp]
Whilst Ted was alright to some degree, this was just awful.
Maleficent or "How to destroy a classic Disney villain in 10 easy steps"
This was a weird fucking film, it seemed to be two minds the entire time, trying to capture the simple magic of Sleeping Beauty - to the point of taking scenes verbatim from the original film - while also attempting to make one of Disney's most memorable villains a completely sympathetic protagonist.
This causes the tone of the plot to fucking jump around jarringly, one minute Maleficent is the same wicked, powerful but ultimately entertaining temptress from the original film, next she's some kind of maternal figure. And to offset this they've made King Stefan into a psychotic villain. Prince Phillip doesn't even show up until the last hour or so of the film and he's rendered completely inconsequential from the fact the film literally steals the same [sp]"act of true love" twist from Frozen[/sp].
It's really disappointing because in the scenes where Maleficent does resemble how she is in Sleeping Beauty, Angelina Jolie fucking nails it. Also Maleficent doesn't even turn into a dragon, she turns some dude who's been following her around into one instead.
Casino Royale
5/5
I'm in the homestretch now.
Edge of Tomorrow
8/10
Damn fucking good movie. Good pacing, good humour, good thrills. Tom Cruise is good, Emily Blunt isn't that bad as well, even though action films are a rather new thing for her. Action was good too. All around good movie, a shame it was released within the same timing as Godzilla and X-men.
Go watch it, you'll enjoy it most likely.
Scott Pilgrim vs the World 7/10
I enjoyed this. It was fun. However coming from someone who came in knowing nothing, I didn't understand jack shit and most stuff wasn't properly explained.
Babette's Feast
The title says it all.
Some of the movie locations are a few hours drive away from here.
10/10
Ted - 7.7/10
It was pretty good, not fantastic but good. Strangely heartfelt for a Seth MacFarlane movie.
why such a specific score?
he has an imdb fetish.
A Million Ways to Die in the West - 2/10
For some reason I think Seth's face looks eerily smooth in all the promotional posters/clips I've seen. Not just photoshop and makeup, we're talking Patrick Stewart in X-Men Origins: Wolverine levels of weirdness.
why such a specific score?
I couldn't decide between 7.5 and 8.
whenever I think of edge of tomorrow I just think of the day after tomorrow
whenever I think of edge of tomorrow I just think of the day after tomorrow
the day after the edge starring donte from DmC
The trailers remind me a lot of source code, not that that's a bad thing

9/10
i mean, it wasn't a perfect film or anything
but that was fucking spectacular, only nuisances were [sp]cranston dying early and watanabe effectively taking his place and g-dog not having all that much screentime, like five more minutes would have made a difference in that bit i think[/sp]
but seriously, go see it if you haven't already.
Destroy All Monsters
As a Godzilla film, it was meh. The monster action took a backseat to the human-alien plot. There are a number of kaiju in the film, but most get very brief screentime and hardly do anything. However, the final battle with all the monsters bashing on Ghidorah was worth the wait. Overall, check it out if you like Godzilla, otherwise just watch the end fight.
Godzilla 2014
This movie redeems America's history of Godzilla attempts. Hopefully now people will become more interested in the real Toho Godzilla and forget about Zilla 98. As a film, it's not much special. It's an above-average summer blockbuster popcorn movie. Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe are great but underused. The main guy however has little charisma, and the whole wife and kid thing was filler junk. In fact, every kid could have been cut out with no affect on the story. In the end, though, I'd much rather have people seeing this over Transformers 4 or whatever other stuff comes out this summer. As a Godzilla film, I felt it held up. Gojira could have used some more screentime, and the MUTOs were pretty boring monsters (could have gone with an established kaiju for bigger draw, ie. Ghidorah, Mothra, etc.), but it has things that Zilla 98 was missing, such as an ineffective military and the atomic breath. Overall, this proves that America can make a decent Godzilla flick. I encourage you to check it out, maybe see some other movies with the big G.
No Country For Old Men
An amazing thriller by the Coen Brothers. One of the most striking elements of the movie is the very effective tension created without the use of music. Most of the film will be spent on the edge of your seat. The main characters all give stellar performances. The violence is swift and brutal, not glorified. It reminded me of a Nicolas Winding Refn type of violence. The film's unorthodox style might not be for everyone, but definitely give it a watch. It's a wild ride from beginning to end.
The Wolf of Wall Street
This is my second time seeing this. The last time was back in theaters, so I've had time to sit on it. It's still as great as I remember it being. The performances are all top-notch. You get a real sense of the hollowness of the wealth when you're watching it. The movie doesn't feel its length too much. It's amazing that it can change moods on a time multiple times throughout without feeling like an incoherent mess. It might not be for everybody due to its length and graphic content, but if you feel that you can handle it, give it a watch. I'm sure you'll like it.
I couldn't decide between 7.5 and 8.
But you could make an accurate assessment between 7.7 and 7.8? :p

God damn it I could have saw this tonight but I saw 1 million ways to die in the west instead.
Me and TrexHunter2000, the guy that makes those dino gmod videos. We had a big argument, I was trying to prove Godzilla is disappointing, but he was defending it. He eventually used my two favorite movies, Jaws and Jurassic Park, as a defense for him saying Godzilla's screentime was okay. I still thought it was pointless to compare a suspense film from the 70s to a CGI blockbuster like this. I explained the reason why Jaws doesn't appear until later in the year was Spielberg's decision, due to the mechanical problems with the shark, and the fact Spielberg realized the shark would not look scary throughout the movie.
The suspense part of the movie was brilliantly directed and well-placed, Spielberg made the right decision. The sharks later reveal was still scary and the shark may look fake, but that's not the case. Gareth Edwards 'did' try to copy this, I liked his build-up. But the build-up in the end was executed poorly,[sp]the reveal fight scene cuts away to the Emotionless child, ruining our chance for a Godzilla-focused moment [/sp]. I also tried to explain the movie never tries to focus on Godzilla, the only focus he had was [sp] during the reveal and final fight scene [/sp] But even then it was more focused on the god damn bland lead character. It's not Gareth's fault, it's whoever wrote the human characters for the movie. We should of just called the movie 'Aaron Taylor Johnson in Cloverfield 2' with Godzilla being a side character.
