your ratings are all wrong
I suspect that perhaps you can't count, sucka
the biggest one I saw was [sp]Why do they use a train to transport the nuke when they know the second muto can't fly and they wind up using a helicopter anyways? therefore that whole bit was unnecessary[/sp]
[sp]EMP blasts, dude. You wouldn't want that shit falling out of the sky if the MUTO sensed it flying near it, and they used the helicopter after finding it because by then the MUTO was already heading towards SF, and because it fell into the river and whatnot.[/sp]
Also to everyone saying "not enough Godzilla"
Believe it or not, he is not the main focus of the films, he is simply the metaphor
well, I can't speak for the 27 sequels from the 1954 original because that shit just gets ridiculous with all of the other monsters
but in the original flick and in the new one (and to an extent, zilla 98), Godzilla serves a more literary purpose.
Also, dat fucking atomic breath windup.
[sp]fly the damn bomb away from from it and high up above it lol, you know where it is, just stay out of its EMP range. nice try though[/sp]
[sp]fly the damn bomb away from from it and high up above it lol, you know where it is, just stay out of its EMP range. nice try though[/sp]
and how would they lower the [sp]bomb where they want it? would they just strap a parachute to it (if this is actually possible then w/e that's crazy cool)[/sp]
particularly the people playing soldiers.
you do know that with the exception of a handful of navy guys, those were all actual soldiers, right?
you do know that with the exception of a handful of navy guys, those were all actual soldiers, right?
even morales? and the main actor?
TAKES A LICKIN KEEPS ON TICKIN
i have a feeling the actual soldiers didn't have any lines. i'm usually not the guy to nitpick but it was just cliche after cliche piling up one after the other, it felt like a parody half the movie
[editline]d[/editline]
yeah, the atomic breath was pretty sick though. like i said, it had its moments. it wasn't a total failure in my book, it had the potential to be great but they just made all the wrong decisions
the main actor and writing being the big two. i could write an essay on this, i was just really psyched up to see it. guess my expectations were too high
also who would fly a helicopter right next to the muto's head?

"hey johnson lets go check out that giant monster"
"good idea ill fly right next to where it's waving its arms around"
"JOHNSON NO"
The Green Mile - 8.5/10
This was an interesting experience for me because I knew almost nothing about this movie other than the fact that Tom Hanks was in it and apparently it was really good. [sp]So the "supernatural" stuff that happened later on kinda caught me off guard.[/sp]
Overall though, the movie was really damn good. The acting was phenomenal and I really wanted to tear up at some parts. Definitely recommend this.
guys this monster is a huge emp grenade we have observed and stated this serveral times
lets fly some planes full of army men near it
[editline]3rd June 2014[/editline]
id better get to hawaii to catch a plane. oh no the monters in hawaii. better get back to san fran to save my wife.
oh no the monsters in san fran!
[editline]3rd June 2014[/editline]
i'd better just run head first into every monster i see, because i am self aware of my protagonist invincibility, and so is the audience.

Lord of Tears
I don't know what I'd rate it out of ten. Probably a 4. The Owlman can be genuinely unsettling, but the movie surrounding him is sub-par, sometimes nonsensical and often dumb. And even the Owlman eventually gets boring; the director loves the costume so much that he'll never resist a chance to show you the monster.
Safety not Guaranteed - 6.5/10. It's nice to see Aubrey Plaza star in her own film for a change but this movie was pretty boring to me. Boring characters and an only somewhat interesting plot. Honestly I only stuck around to see if the guy could actually time travel or not. Many characters seemed really pointless and were only there to fill in some time.
21 Jump Street 8/10 Very dumb and funny film. Very enjoyable to watch.
Every time I've an exam the following day I always spend the evening before it watching a movie in order to cut myself some RELAX.
Unfortunately, I had the brillant idea to choose Akira. For the intended purpose, it was a huge mistake. On the other hand, however ...
8/10
The score would be more aking to a nine, but I've still to assimilate exactly what the hell happened and what Akira was supposed to be.
The only thing I'm sure of is the animation's quality being downright STUNNING. Seriously, it looks like CGI.
On a side note, [sp]fuck to the Testuo's transformation sequence towards the end of the film[/sp]. Nor that the movie was being forgiving up to this point, but it grossed me out greatly nevertheless

Remember that time that the main character stared two of the main monsters directly in the eyes and had a connection with them
Mikey, I need your help!
I need to watch some good French/Hong Kong New Wave films. I know you like that sort of thing so I figured I'd ask you.
I've seen:
Breathless
400 Blows
Pierrot Le Fou
Jules Et Jim
and I've only seen In The Mood For Love for Hong Kong
for French preferably I need to watch some more Godard/Truffaut
Honestly outside of Godard I can't really say a whole lot since I've not seen much (I love Godard and the concept of New Wave though so I've no idea why I've slept on anyone but him) but I can definitely pass on word of mouth about it.
I've seen no Truffaut (I need to work on it for sure!) so I couldn't say, but for Godard I would suggest Vivre Sa Vie, Le Mepris and Week-End. All very different but sticking to New Wave and very much Godard but showing his evolution. Vivre Sa Vie is similar to Breathless in style, if you like Pulp Fiction as I'm sure you do you will see a lot of parallels between the Anna Karina in Vivre Sa Vie and Uma Therman in Pulp Fiction (Godard is obviously a huge influence in Tarantino's early films overall- he even named his production company Band Apart after Bande a Part). Le Mepris is his most visually stunning work and a brilliant insight into Godard the person- the main character is Godard and his wife Anna Karina- however the end result is different for each couple. Week-End is perhaps his masterpiece in that it's clearly everything he's wanted to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he considered it his finest work (from the 60s at least- i've not seen further). It's his anti-Bourgeois manifesto done in beautiful shots, awesome colours, fantastic humour and great editing, all in a really dark tale about a couple going to their parents but getting stuck in traffic.
Le Samourai by Jean-Pierre Melville, a true exercise in style and cool, its main character is a detective who smokes and barely speaks. One of the coolest films of all time. If you liked Breathless definitely check it. Worth noting as well that it's a clear influence on Drive which is probably the coolest film of the past 5 years at least.
Eric Rohmer and Jacque Rivette are other French new Wave directors to look into.
For Hong Kong check out the rest of Kar Wong Kai's work (he's someone I'm about to delve into, cioncidentally)- look into Chungkung Express and 2046 as those will be my next watches and a bunch of the film blogs I follow on tumblr adore them. Especially Chungkung.
I may suggest looking into Dogme95 as well, something I've always thought of as the Danish New Wave, started by Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg. (although it's also been adopted by foreign directors, such as Andrea Arnold and Harmony Korine). Films worth looking at (not all are 100% Dogme95 but its a guideline not a rulebook) are Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves (one of my all time favourite films), The Idiots and Dancer In The Dark and Thomas Vinterberg's Festen (absolutely fantastic drama film, a legitimate masterpiece of dialogue and realism- this is an early film by the director of The Hunt which recieved surprisingly mainstream acclaim) as well as Red Road by Andrea Arnold (and by extension Fish Tank although I think it is not Dogme95, it does however feature early Fassbender so ye)
Maybe also look into the No Wave cinema of New York's No Wave art movement (no wave is my favourite art movement, spawning fantastic, ballsy art, a voice for independent thought in art, the unadulterated display of human ugliness, and Swans the greatest band of all time)- Directors like Jim Jarmusch, Steve Buscemi (yep), John Waters, Vincent Gallo.
the man with the iron fists - 5/10
the fight scenes were nice in a matrix sort of way
the acting was bad all around (especially by RZA who shouldve never have casted himself in the lead)
story was pretty well thought out
costumes were nice

just you wait, when you finally digest it you'll re-rate it a 9/10 minimum.
also, read the manga.
Mulan 7/10
Entertaining practically throughout, but it left me feeling like the film was kind of empty. It just lacked the emotional punch that a lot of Disney films had at the time.
Get a load of this guy
Mulan doesn't really have the space to be emotional and it doesn't need to be, it just needs to be a story about Mulan fucking up the huns.
Not every Disney film needs to start with a tragedy.
Mulan was great because it's a good lesson on life, it's really entertaining, and it has one of the best songs in Disney history.
It's also a personal tragedy to me because when I was a kid I threw away my mushu plush because I thought it'd make grow up faster and I got depressed the instant I realized what I had done. Still haven't managed to find an identical plush.
The Lego Movie
everything is awesome

The climax was kind of lame.
Forrest Gump - 9.5/10
God damn that was fantastic.
Altered States
Well, that was something. It had some really wild visuals that are worth seeing the whole movie for. The story was something, it really started to get too wild about halfway through. Once the guy [sp]turned into a monkey[/sp], I didn't know what to expect for the rest of it. After that, the rest was kinda eh. The ending especially felt lacking. Overall, if you enjoy wild visuals, give this one a watch. It was something.
A Million Ways to Die in the Wild West 10/10
Seth MacFarlane plays as a sheep herder in the rough 'n' tough wild west who is strangely self aware of the time period, being able to comment on it as if he's seeing the whole era from a hindsight perspective.
The film is full of wild west tropes which MacFarlane manages to turn on their head for maximum comedic effect.
I loved the sense of humor even if it was crude and somewhat predictable. I loved all the minor guest actors as well.
Malaficent. It was surprisingly enjoyable and Angelina Jolie was stunning in it. 7.5/10
