Just saw the Wolf of Wall Street Pretty gosh darn good. The only gripe I had with it was [sp]the couple of times where Jordan would be explaining what he / his company were doing to make money, before stopping mid-sentence and saying something along the lines of "lol you don't know what I'm talking about". bitch I was following what you said completely[/sp] but yeah, cracking film. it's insane how it simultaneously managed to be so long, yet still have everything on screen be completely relevant and never feel like filler or like it was stalling before the next big event. loved it
oh yeah I saw Edge of Tomorrow too very minor spoilers: a very competent and very funny action movie. great performances, (although cruise is his usual serviceable self with the exception of his excellent death-screams), an intelligent screenplay and a plot that suspends your disbelief (which is necessary for what's actually going on). it's got it's problems, most of which brought about by it's plot, but it's not made to really matter in the grand scheme because it's very enjoyable and even has it's nice little quirks. one thing though is that about 20 minutes before the movie addressed it, i said to my friend 'how did she know she lost her respawn power, if she never actually killed herself again?' not long after that, tom cruise claimed to have lost it because he 'doesn't feel it anymore', which is a bit of a copout, because he's never stated to actually feel anything to begin with and is very confused for a large part of the movie. the only effect his powers actually had on him were the visions but neither cruise nor blunt ever mentioned anything about 'feeling' different at all, making it strange that they'd just KNOW they lost their power by feeling it. and as far as the end goes, i called him [sp]starting the day again but the alien machine still being destroyed. i'm not too sold on the 'alien goo seeped into his body while in the water' thing, because if even just that little bit of goo in tom cruise was able to resurrect literally everyone that died and start the day over (from a different point too?), why didn't the alien machine respawn too? was tom cruise subconsciously controlling it? but it was still a satisfactory end to the movie. except the end credit music. what were they thinking?[/sp] i give it a thumbs up. it reminded me of classic 90's action like starship troopers. that's probably what i'd describe it as, starship troopers and groundhog day. an excellent combination. with some aliens vibes to boot (mainly from bill paxton). [editline]6th June 2014[/editline] every time the drop ship scene came around i was thinking to myself 'SONIC E-LEC-TRONIC BALL BREAKERS'
Edge of Tomorrow - 9/10 I dunno where to start. Giving a full rundown on the movie would just be repeating what everyone else said, it's fantastic and what I wanted fully. I loved it, please go watch it and make it a success. I don't want it to flop, it deserves the genuine praise it's getting.
Edge of Tomorrow 9/10. Really fucking good. I didn't really know much about except being told it's like Groundhog Day. Me and my friends had one problem with it though, that being that there's some what of a massive plot hole in it. [sp]When ol Emily Blunt goes on about having a blood transfusion and that making her loose the power it seems somewhat off because how would she know? The only way of being sure whould be for her to kill herself and find out, but if she did that she would be fucking dead. They sort of give a answer to that later when Tom Cruise has a blood transfusion and he's all "I can feel it, I know", but that feels like a somewhat weak way of justifying it.[/sp] Either way really awesome movie. [editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
one thing though is that about 20 minutes before the movie addressed it, i said to my friend 'how did she know she lost her respawn power, if she never actually killed herself again?'
Oh, I should probably learn to read better.
Her 8/10 Not too melancholy, which is good. Although it may sound sad but I would love to have an OS as a best friend
The Nut Job Gives that last decade of CGI animation full of fart and burp jokes including an all star names feel. 7/10
22 Jump Street 8/10 Good fun
Rio 2 Worth the 3 years wait. 10/10

22 Jump Street - 7.5/10 Pretty great follow up to a pretty great comedy film. It's very self-aware, very fun and Ice Cube is great. I felt the action sequences kind of tried a bit too hard to be action sequences, and the middle of the film is also a little too dragging. But it gets right back on track for the ending. It's just fun Also has an incredible credits sequence [sp]Some of the stuff that happened this week with Jonah Hill almost feels like a viral campaign for this film. Several points in the movie the word faggot is referenced and Tatum/Hill's characters both denounce it hard (saying its 2014 etc shouldn't have to use that word). But idk it almost makes the film funnier in the context of that.[/sp]
I watched the rest of Being John Malkovich. Really didn't like it.
Cool near future military hardware like those VTOL aircraft and power armor.
VTOL aircraft already exist man, V-22 Ospreys and Harriers are the most common examples. Exoskeleton power armor, that's the next big thing and it's already under way https://news.yahoo.com/u-militarys-iron-man-suit-prototype-debuts-month-152158957.html
Edge of Tomorrow - 9/10 Just about everything I'd want in a summer blockbuster; highly recommended.
Letting you guys know that Edge of Tomorrow is based on a Japanese novel called "All You Need is Kill" and it followed the plot to some extent (Americanized for the audiences, and they changed the climax). There is a manga and a graphic novel based on the book, but I think the manga is way better (more violent and longer). Here's the manga. Cannot find a link to the graphic novel. I haven't seen the film yet, but the plot and characters are pretty interesting.
I borrowed the book from the library and read through it and it's a really well-written book [editline]6th June 2014[/editline] I'm going to see the movie tomorrow, kinda excited for it now that I hear it's really good
Edge of Tomorrow wasn't bad. I mean, it's not going to be an Oscar nominee, but it's a good action movie with a lot of fun stuff and nothing that gets on your nerves.
Saving Private Ryan 5/5 [editline]7th June 2014[/editline] Not much needs to be said on that one.
Edge of Tomorrow 9/10 Given the fact that I knew absolutely nothing about the movie until I read the description 15 minutes before I got into the theater, I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The beginning starts off slower than you would want and Tom Cruise is a bit of a dick through the hole movie, but it basically combined Source Code and Ender's Game made something wonderful. The only thing I don't get is [sp]how would Tom Cruise be combat ready every time he comes back? Of course he remembers the techniques, but surely his physical condition would start fresh every time he wakes up.[/sp] Also [sp]The Louvre Pyramid would surely would have rather serious structural problems if the massive parking structure under it had a big gaping hole in it.[/sp]
I kinda shrugged off Edge of Tomorrow when I saw the trailer for it, but after you guys have praised it so much, I should probably check it out. Haven't heard of anyone hating it yet.
I simply don't watch trailersof mainstream cinema anymore, I can't bear it.

Nah enders game sucked pretty hard
Nah enders game sucked pretty hard
Hm, too bad. Any other recent science fiction movies I should watch instead though?
Hm, too bad. Any other recent science fiction movies I should watch instead though?
I feel like a shithead from reddit to say it cos of the crazy circlejerk around it but Moon is a great sci-fi. Stars Sam Rockwell who is always good. Upstream Color is a great indie sci-fi, but I won't lie it's confusing as hell :v:. Safety Not Guaranteed is a nice sci-fi/romance too, a good watch. Gravity of course is worth checking out if you missed it. The Host is great as well (The Korean monster movie- not the American Stephanie Meyer adaptation :v:)
the World's End, 6/10 (Contains SPOILERS below, divert your GAZE now.) I think this film was stupid, and continues to prove how comedies can hardly ever be truly good. Basically, it started out funny and interesting actually, the King's over-the-top comedy faces just irked me at a times, but after the sudden turn of events it made completely no sense. Well, okay, I guess there lies some hidden sense in a bunch of drunk guys piSSING OFF THE FUCKING LEADER OF ALL SOLAR SYSTEMS. Or, "the Network." Then their home planet getting wiped, and turned into the average fallout enthusiast's wet dream.
