Just back from 22 Jump Street. Actually better than the first, and a lot of meta humour about it being a sequel 10
Does Nick Offerman have a larger role? I'm a fan of him and his acting and would love to see him to finally get a lead in his own film.
Just back from 22 Jump Street. Actually better than the first, and a lot of meta humour about it being a sequel 10
Its a lot more self aware too and Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill work incredible together, almost like Laurel and Hardy. A lot of nice action shots too. Just watched Anchorman 2, 2/5 The only thing that saved this movie from being complete garbage was the massive fight scene with numerous cameos. Other wise it's not a funny film and tries waaaay too hard.
One thing that I think is underrated is the Popeye movie. Some people see it as a poor musical, but to me I think its a great movie that is able to capture the heart of the original cartoons with it's visual comedy.
47 Ronin - 4/10 Solid cinematography and great production design doesn't save a cliche story, underdeveloped characters, and unremarkable acting. It's kind of a shame because the story it's based on sounds interesting, but this one just didn't do it for me.
I'm interested in seeing 47 Ronin and Gangster Squad but from what I've heard they're both pretty terrible
47 Ronin looks dumb, but at least it looks like the enjoyable kind of dumb.
would you rather have him or jewdozer
jewdozer atleast knew how to make proper reviews
why do u care about this guys posts he doesnt post often and its so ignorable unlike jewdozers whose pretentious shit would full a whole page
David Lynch's Inland Empire maybe it wasn't a great idea to watch this at midnight with headphones on, I think I probably reduced my life expectancy somewhat :( This film is definitely his Opus, even if I were to personally enjoy any of his others more, I reckon I'm always going to admire what he did with this one. After the success of Mulholland Drive and it was probably that film that helped a lot of movie folk "get" what Lynch was going for all along. This film though... OH MY god, it's Lynch on a whole new level m8. And it's so not the film I'd watch on the average day, I'd need a good stretch of time and a clear state of mind to absorb. This film goes in so many directions and literally takes off in every which way as if it was some major symbolic design of life. Kind of like Synedoche, New York but on crack tbh. And there was a part that literally moved me to bits, and then I remembered it was sampled by Burial which was nice, you'd recognise that immediately when you saw it. Laura Dern was superb, not a whole lot has been said about her as a character actor but here she's rocking the Lynch vibes from start to finish. I don't want to say the 3 hours fly by, because they don't... Lynch loves to fiddle with your insides until at the end you're in pieces. But honestly, by the time the end arrived, I was already horrified and mystified.. so in actual fact I'm grateful for what he did with the credits. I am in literal awe of this film. But pls, be careful of your health.

Eastern Promises - 9/10 I'm pretty much speechless, it was fucking great. Viggo Mortensen did a very good job at portraying a Russian mobster character, and god damn those tattoos were great, and apparently very realistic http://easternpromises.livejournal.com/47809.html you should definitely see if it you haven't
Edge of Tomorrow - 9/10 Great summer flick. Loved the action, effects, and the humor. It was strangely satisfying to see Tom Cruise getting killed over and over. But what I didn't care for was [sp]the happy ending where everyone lived. It would have made a better ending if they didn't have that last time reset.[/sp]
Edge of tomorrow 4/5 Great action and effects, they seemed to have taken some time to fix any glaring plot holes which was nice even if I noticed the patches once or twice. My biggest complaint is that [sp]the ending was boring, I expected some kind of clever mind-games with the resetting of time but victory was achieved through brute force.[/sp] I also found the alien design boring. Since the matrix the octupus style is used too often.
I've been watching a lot of movies, so let's go through some. __________________________ Silent Running In a future where spaceships preserve the last remaining forests from the pollution on Earth, one botanist defies an order to destroy them. Rating: 4/5 Great story, although there was one part that didn't make sense. Don't expect a whole lot of suspense and action. The only problem I had was with the soundtrack. __________________________ Sneakers Bishop (Robert Redford) is head of a group of experts who specialize in testing security systems. When he is blackmailed into stealing a decryption device, the team discovers they're in a situation too deep for them to handle. Rating: 5/5 This movie has the perfect blend of mystery, suspense, and a small portion of comedy. The actors were terrific in their roles. Please go watch it. __________________________ The Fifth Element It's a future with flying cars and shit. Bruce Willis needs to save the universe. Nuff said. Rating: 5/5 Plenty of action, great costume design, awesome special effects for a 1997 film, plenty of Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker was funny enough to be tolerable.
Had another movie marathon. Edge of Tomorrow 4/5 When I first saw trailers for this, I didn't have high hopes, but the concept intrigued me. Now that I've seen the movie, I was pleasantly surprised. Essentially it's Groundhog Day with guns and aliens and it fucking rocked. The story was interesting and funnier than I had anticipated. It's everything you want in a Summer action movie. This is Spinal Tap 11/10 One of my friends hadn't seen it, so we followed up that with this. Still an amazing comedy. A Mighty Wind 4/5 Similar to Spinal Tap, but more like Best in Show (no surprise given it was made by the same people) and about folk music. It's kind of like comparing Hot Fuzz to Shaun of the Dead. Fuzz and A Mighty Wind have more jokes, but Shaun of the Dead and Spinal Tap are just funnier over all. Not a big complaint, but more of an observation. The Wolf of Wall Street 5/5 All that's needed to be said has been said. This time it did feel a little long, but then again, it was about 3 in the morning at that time. Raging Bull 5/5 The second Scorcese masterpiece. Still a brilliant, sad film.
Kill Bill vol 1 8/10 Can't wait to see the second. [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] Also this was my first Quentin movie [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] Don't judge
I watched Royal Tannenbaums for the first time in my friend's dorm. At the beginning sequence I just judged it as an Amelie ripoff, even the narrators voice sounds the same, but it wound up becoming one of my favorite movies. Not as good as zoolander, but close. Some people told me this music was a comedy that wasn't funny and doesn't make you laugh but my friends and I were laughing nonstop pretty much. 9.3/10
Comparing the royal tenenbaums to zoolander is a strange one :v: considering the only thing they share is Ben stiller. Very different films. Royal tenenbaums is one of my all time favourites, a real masterclass in ensemble characters, not to mention the fantastic direction and music choice. Zoolander is great too though and has loads of charm. Stiller as a writer-director is surprisingly brilliant, tropic thunder is just fantastic in many ways

[sp]His character, and Blunt's character die many times. She even dies after he basically tells her he cares for her now. So they suffer. Having it reset that last time so they live is a nice reward for sacrificing themselves so many times. Plus it's internally consistent since resetting the day has been on going each time they die.[/sp]
Have you seen Waiting for Guffman? That's another mockumentary by that group, you might like it too.
Another exam, another movie to get myself some relax before going to sleep. This time I decided to roll with a film that was long overdue for me: "Howl's Moving Castle" 9/10 Hayao Miyazaki's animation is such that he could as well offer me the shittiest stories ever and still make me fucking MOIST. (Not implying it was the case with this movie)
Have you seen Waiting for Guffman? That's another mockumentary by that group, you might like it too.
I agree, I consider it a trilogy of genius Christopher Guest mockumentaries. Spinal Tap/Guffman/Best In Show.
Kill Bill Vol 2 8/10. Felt a bit lacking in action but was a very good film nonetheless. Overall I give both films a 9/10.
just saw Lost in Translation :'c
Kill Bill Vol 2 8/10. Felt a bit lacking in action but was a very good film nonetheless. Overall I give both films a 9/10.
I always thought it was weird how much more grounded in reality Vol 2 was in comparison to the first. When [sp]The Bride kills Bill with the exploding heart technique, I was expecting something completely over the top, with blood everywhere, but then he just fell to the ground.[/sp] Considering the insanity of Vol 1, especially the Crazy 88 fight, watching the climax of Vol 2 was the opposite of what you'd expect.
vol 1 was full of great action and more memorable scenes, but i think vol 2 was the better movie [editline]9th June 2014[/editline] wait didnt i post the exact same thing a while ago
ye agreed Tarantino is best when hes not being dumb as hell but sadly thats the way hes going I hope his next film is masterful again cos Django was fun and stylish but also stupid and almost parody. Hes almost regressing, as a writer at least. [editline]9th June 2014[/editline] then again he did say he was gonna quit at 50 cos people start sucking at that point but he's 51 and still gonna make more so we will see lol
Judge Dredd 3D 8/10 Really nice campy action, I was really nervous they'd go for a romance plot but thank god they didn't. Now I can happily be a fan of Judge Dredd stuff. [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] It really reminded me of a Tarantino movie too, the action scenes I mean.
Pontypool - 7/10 Such a bizarre film and concept. I liked it though.
