Yeah, that's my dad's favorite movie too. That monologue at the end is unbelievable.
Transformers 4
8/10, best in the series.

uh oh
i don't get RT. why not just use metacritic? RT has such a weird system.
This argument always confuses me. You do realize RT also has an "average rating" score below the percent which is literally the same thing metacritic does, right? If the issue is RT letting any idiot post a review there, you can filter them out by selecting "top critics", which gives you a critics list almost identical to the list metacritic uses. RT literally is metacritic with more stuff.
Snowpiercer: 9/10.
I'm a sucker for well done near future sci-fi, and this was just that. Really clever idea, executed rather brilliantly. It also has some superb direction, especially with the tunnel fight scene and the window shootout.
Also, it has a really great flow to the movie. The film gets progressively more and more dark as it goes on, it doesn't just do that "sudden bad ending to be different", thing that some movies do.
The last act contains the most nihilistic dread I've ever seen in a film, and it makes you genuinely believe that perhaps freezing to death was a better than being on the train.
Pulp Fiction 9.5/10
Never watched it before outside of little snippets. Gotta say pretty damn good movie if you haven't watched it before I suggest you do.
raid 1 was disappointing, raid 2 improved on it in every conceivable way.

I watched the first one in English for the comedy value of the horrible dub.
It's one of these terrible dubs/VA that actually makes the thing better.
Oh my GOD, Ganerumo. :( There is no punishment severe enough for the crime you appear to have committed.
And Rusty, how exactly was Raid 1 disappointing? Or how did Raid2 exactly improve on it in every way?
Because at least the fighting choreography was as equally insane, if not even better than in Raid 2.
PLUS in Raid 1 we saw more gun action than in Raid 2, so that might be a personal preference to someone.
The only improvement that I would agree on is exactly the story follow-up, from a SWAT unit to a undercover unit, and so on, which is all good.
[editline]30th June 2014[/editline]
Also just watched 300 the rise of empire, 5/10, unmemorable, ugly blood-spurting effects and all that usual bullshit. Would not watch again.
Why exactly should I give a shit about the quality of the dialogue in a movie that has close to no story and is all about brutally murdering people with your fists
I mean for Raid 2 I'll probably watch it with the original voices since there's apparently more story but the first one had like 10 lines total.

I'd just watched ip man, and the fight choreography just didn't thrill me as much as I wanted it to. it was just underwhelming

Well, it does have a story, but yeah you have a point there.
HOWEVER, for example, would you watch Japanese anime or such dubbed as well? Because in a way it defeats the purpose, and it's sort of insult to them and their language.. or so it would feel to me. :v:
Wolf of Wall street 8.25/10

I've only watched dubbed anime because I'm dumb and can't be bothered to read.

Hmm.. too bad.
I've only watched dubbed anime because I'm dumb and can't be bothered to read.
Well you are missing out lol cos dubs are always worse
I don't even watch much anime, just Studio Ghibli stuff and Samurai Champloo.

why would you watch a film in any way other than the film maker intended you to
why would you watch a film in any way other than the film maker intended you to
Guess you can't watch it with subtitles then.
Subtitles are more accurate to the original vision, and also the experience as you get the full experience from the actors. Getting the real performance an having to read is a better experience than getting a subpar vocal performance that likely won't match what the director wanted.

Only if the dub is so bad it turns the whole thing into a comedy.
Like, for instance, the French dub for Fist Of The North Star (called Ken the Survivor in French) and City Hunter (Nicky Larson in the French dub) are so horrendous it basically changed the tone of the entire thing. Fist Of The North Star got filled with knife puns and City Hunter was turned into a kid friendly comedy flick with no allusion to prostitution, murder or crime in general, and with all names changed to French ones. It's fucking amazing.
Now this really pisses me off to no end!
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad film, I just didn't really like it.
It's your typical cheesy 80's action film with an unlikely buddy-cop esque thing + some martial arts going on.
I think it helps if you saw this when you were still a kid. Like how I know the 90's Dennis The Menace movie is a bad movie but I still love it.
The Lion King
7/10
The story was a cut above most Disney films but the ending wasn't great and I didn't like any of the songs.
Looks like I hit a nerve.
Guess you can't watch it with subtitles then.
subtitles aren't literally replacing something that was in the original version though, only adding something
The Raid 2. 9/10.
My country had the idea of only showing the dubbed version in cinemas, which was horrible, but I've experienced far worse. At least there wasn't any dubbing during the fight scenes, so they didn't detract that much during those.
Nobody I know has never even heard of the Raid so I have taken the responsibility of spreading this amazing film series among my circle of friends. Sadly, the idea of it being Indonesian is off-putting for them.

Haha yeah, I have been suggesting it to my friends as well. One guy in particular didn't know what to expect from it, then the next day he was all like "Wow that was so fucking good, ty for suggestion." (Raid 1)
I generally like to glorify the Raids with every chance I get. Comparing the relatively low budgets of the Raids to some other high-budget action films is mind-blowing enough.

My entire life I've been watching films with subtitles and I was amazed how many things I've missed when I was rewatching things without them.
Oh, is it allowed here to post my ratings of The Decalogue, or is it more for TV shows? It is not a conventional tv series, more like a series of TV movies, if that makes sense
I want my friend to watch the Raid movies but for some reason he just hates subtitles. Tried to tell him that the first was actively worse with dubbing but he won't listen. Even though he watched Battle Royale with subtitles and had no problem with it.

I agree. I do my best to read as fast as I can while taking in details, or I'll break up my reading etc. I know what you mean though and missing.subtleties in a performance or in the mise en scene can take a little a way from a film, but less than what a dub will if you ask me.
Also if iit's 60+ minutes it's a feature film so eligible here. If it's sitting on 60outer then I guess it's up to your own discretion on whether you think it's a TV show or feature film
Blue is the Warmest Color: 6 or maybe 7/10
It's alright, but it really feels like movie I've seen before except with lesbians.
