I didn't read the book but still thought the film sucked. I saw it twice cos I had 2 hours to kill and not really anything better to do/there was nothing else on and I spent the entire second time wanting to die and I ended up just walking out come the third act
the third act was the weakest. went straight downhill from there, the stuff before that was at least passable they were originally going to set part of the movie in Moscow and were going to show the scythe things the Russians used, fuck whoever decided against that [editline]d[/editline] i mean come on

the original ending was much bleaker and i think, better. the film suffered a lot from it's rating. it's nowhere near as good as the book, which i highly recommend to everyone. it's one of the books i read every year or so, such a believable universe and is actually really interesting.

Phone Booth 7/10 I saw this one with my girlfriend on the tv. It was actually pretty good. The concept and style was great and unique. It was also rather interesting and suspenseful seeing how the whole story will unfold. Although I didn't like the ending to much, guess I expected not such a happy end. Also I didn't like the voice of the killer and how he spoke to Colin. But I watched it in german, I think the dubs weren't that great. Nevertheless I had a great time.
I saw phone booth in theaters when I was nine, and it was awesome Never heard so many F words in my life, my mom was mad
the writer of Phonebooth originally tried to make that film in the 60's and Alfred Hitchcock wanted to direct it but they couldn't get enough story to justify a feature film so he sat on it for 40 years til he worked it out (or more likely forgot about it then realised "hey wait lets do it this way")

World War Z: 5/10 [sp]blanket scene[/sp]
World War Z 4/10 +2 points for mildly attractive female Israeli soldier person +1 point for not-terrible effects +1 point for not-completely-terrible acting -2 points for the million cliches -2 points for being a terrible adaptation -2 points for ridiculous deus ex machina ending resolution
just saw Under the Skin weird little film this one. it left a lot of questions unanswered when I would've preferred answers, and showed a few things that I would've preferred to remain a mystery, but I'm glad I watched it. I think the fact it's set in the UK was detrimental to my enjoyment of the film, since for the most part it's a pretty accurate representation of what the place is like, but to someone living in the US it would seem a little odd - not hugely, but enough that things feel slightly off. also I was expecting it to be way scarier than it was, which was kind of a letdown. a couple of parts made me feel a little uneasy, but there was nothing that made me feel particularly creeped out or anything. a part of me was hoping that I'd be unable to turn the lights off and go to sleep, but that's exactly what I'm in the middle of doing now, so... gosh darn it. i'm not even a huge fan of horror films :v: but overall I liked it. not gonna give it a number out of ten rating because I don't really know what I would give it but know that I liked it but would totally understand if someone else didn't [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] oh, and the soundtrack was pretty good. very atmospheric. and the intro sequence was neat too
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: 8/10 I remember when I first saw this film way back when it was first in theaters. This was probably the most unexpectedly good movie I've seen in awhile. Also Caesar [sp]shouting "No!"[/sp] gives me chills every time. This was just airing on FX hence why I'm mentioning it again. Going to watch the original from '68 before seeing Dawn this weekend. I'm hyped. And I mean come on: Ratings look stellar from what was shown at the preview. Hoping it lives to the hype. Will be the first movie I see in a theater in a long time.
Snip
Before Sunrise: 8/10. Great film, it's a romantic film that only feels real and honest. I love the dialogue and how it's minimalist in style to put in front the conversations they have. Before Sunset: 8.5/10. It's more or less the same concept but this time the characters have grown and they have more problems. The romance is still there but it's different because they have had separate lives. I'm not spoiling anything because you see those movies to see their interaction and their conversations that are still amazing. [sp]I especially liked the scene in the car where she's angry to have remembered how shitty her life became after reading the book he wrote based on their relationship in the first film. What a great scene utilizing the ambient sounds and mostly the silence of when the car stops to make the scene more intense.[/sp] Before Midnight: 9/10. This is easily the best for me because of having the two earlier movies built up their characters and their history. It makes every conversations they have just feel more real. There's something weird seeing them always 9 years in the future and seeing how little they changed and how much they actually did. It's a great gem and I love how it ends with a [sp]crazy almost couple destroying fight that ends up good because they do love each other.[/sp] Overall, I really liked the trilogy and I can't wait to watch Boyhood. I should also go watch Waking Life.
So a friend and I made a bet. If Germany won, I'd have to see a movie he picked, if Brazil won, vice versa. He picked After Earth for me. How scared should I be?
So a friend and I made a bet. If Germany won, I'd have to see a movie he picked, if Brazil won, vice versa. He picked After Earth for me. How scared should I be?
It's worse than the Last Airbender So not at all
It's worse than the Last Airbender So not at all
Now there's a bold statement. I've seen Last Airbender reduce someone to incoherent swearing, After Earth is going to have to do something drastic to top that.
dawn of ape planet it made me sad. but it wasn't a great movie. a lot of plot convenience, human characters you don't care about, inconsistent ape cgi quality. there's one stick out scene when ceaser is talking to his son and it is very emotional where i was like 'okay, the cgi here is 10 times better than the rest of the movie'. which i can see why they did it, because the more emotional scene was more important i guess. but more consistence would have been good i enjoyed, but i wouldn't watch it again. [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] maybe i'm just sore that i saw this instead of calvary, which i really want to see
maybe i'm just sore that i saw this instead of calvary, which i really want to see
Brendan Gleeson, Chris O'Dowd, Aiden Gillen and Dylan Moran? Damn, I like this cast. [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] RT ratings are looking good too. [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] After Earth - 3/10 3 little words: FUCKING! EMOTE! PLEASE! It's like everyone's on Prozium or something, everything's reacted to with no emotion at all or very little of it. The delivery is fucked on another level too, namely the accents. Every single line is like a blender of 3-4 accents at any given time. What baffles me most is what the hell happened to Jaden Smith. He was perfectly fine in the Karate Kid remake and 3 years later....this. I don't think it's unfair to say, without hyperbole, he is one of the most wretched actors alive right now. Send this kid back to acting 101, that was one of the worst performances I've ever seen. Dialogue comes out awkwardly and, again FUCKING EMOTE! He has 2 facial expressions throughout the entire movie, it's astonishing how bland someone can be.
Now there's a bold statement. I've seen Last Airbender reduce someone to incoherent swearing, After Earth is going to have to do something drastic to top that.
So you know how Will Smith is really hyper a active and shit and Jaden Smith is super serious and pretentious Imagine if they tried to switch roles one day
Calvary is absolutely fantastic go see it. Second favourite film of the year so far, will probably stay in my top 5. Way better than seven psychopaths and The Guard, at least on par with In Bruges

Noah 7.5/10 It was a pleasure to watch, despite some draw backs. The cinematography was amazing for the most part with some great sequences in cgi and nice looking colourful landscapes. The acting was also very good, most of the leads showed a good range and it got really emotional at some points. Russell Crowe was by far the best out of everyone, he did a great performance. The story was interesting but nothing really new to the table, although I really liked how surprisingly dark it gets at one point, turning into something more like a thriller. People said it was inconsistent, but I thought it was one of the film's biggest strenghts. after watching this I think I'd like to see more crude bible story adaptations, there is potential in that field.
The Last American Virgin (1982)-9/10 I'm not sure if I should call this a comedic trap or a cautionary tale for horny teenagers. A gut-busting comedy the first half, the other is a tear-jerking high school teen dilemma between the main character Gary, his crush Karen, and the 'I-slept-with-all-the-girls-in-school' best friend Rick. I'm not the kind of guy who likes to see a really downer film, but when the film got me hooked on the comedic beginning, the final half dropped my feels from orbit. It takes a real misdirection to get me emotionally invested, and the film played it's cards well. The only downside is that there are other characters, but they are pushed to the side to be forgotten for the finale including [sp]that one hottie Rose who DOES like Gary but exits the film without a word[/sp] I did enjoy this film, even if it left me depressed for a week. A good film for those in high school, entering high school, entering college, or for those who want to learn to not be Gary.
my dad emailed me this and is all of a sudden weary about seeing the new planet of the apes http://www.infowars.com/hollywood-inserts-gun-control-subtext-in-new-planet-of-the-apes-movie/ it literally reads like an onion article
It's Alex Jones, what do you expect?
It's Alex Jones, what do you expect?
that was probably the first time ive ever read an alex jones article all the way through, im just amazed honestly
after watching this I think I'd like to see more crude bible story adaptations, there is potential in that field.
I remember I saw a post on 4chan that asked something like "why are 90% of all Bible movies about the life and death of Christ? That'd be like if Marvel only made Spider-Man movies and told the same story each time." There is some great stuff in the Bible, and it's cool to see that movies are starting to branch out from just focusing on Jesus or Moses. I for one would like to see a movie about Samson - super-strong dude ripping apart lions and killing hundreds with a donkey's jawbone. Imagine if the Rock was doing that instead of another Hercules retread...

Dragons, Armies of Good and Evil, God riding out into battle against Satan. So. Fucking. Metal.
