Killing Them Softly I liked it, a lot, but often had trouble remembering people's names and such so I had some trouble following it. I'm not sure if it's because of me, or if the film itself wasn't clear enough, but the fact remains that I found it confusing. Definetly needs a rewatch for an actual rating. I still grasped the story and most of the dialogue, unfortunately Brad Pitt's character was the only really interesting one. The others were ehh, okay I guess, some better than others. I liked the overall style and direction, they didn't go for the Godfather or Goodfellas gangster "feel", but came up with a fairly unique and fresh way of telling the story. Other than that, some poweful scenes, some slightly boring parts, but I won't say anything else because as I said I need to rewatch it properly.
I agree, especially the part where Pitt talks to Gandolfini, which makes no sense and is actually pretty boring. The movie has a pretty big message behind it but it's hard for me to get that message. I guess it's a movie that you just love or hate.
4/10 because I've seen worse? I mean, it's not The Human Centipede shit. I went in expecting something much better, but what I got was a 4/10. I'd recommend it to people who have nothing better to do, but I wouldn't tell someone to actually plan a day out to go see it.

After Earth was shit, 4 / 10. Mediocre CGI (those monkeys looked bad, and the Ursa looked terrible), bad acting on Will Smith's sons part, shitty plot, cheesy scenes. Was terrible.
Your score and what you said about it does not fit together at all. [editline]13th June 2013[/editline]
I give it an IGN 8.9/10
auch
Post-movie theatre blues, if you will. I still stick with my 4/10, and people should stop being so anal about ratings.
The Purge- 4/10 My biggest gripe with this film is the AWFUL script. The whole concept is retarded and they play it as totally inconsequential when it is anything but, it essentially promotes fascism when it seems to have tried to be against it (at least at some points- its morals changed constantly throughout the movie) The characters were fucking retarded. Like, okay. I guess I understand him letting the guy in (even if it's undeniably stupid), but then everything gets stupider. a rundown of merely some of the stupid things, that I can remember- The bad guys want them to find the hobo. So they cut the power and lights. What? The kid continues to save the hobo despite it being made clear to him that the bad guys will kill him either way- and if they hide him then they'll kill the family as well. Goddammit kid get your shit together. The boyfriend trying to kill Ethan Hawke- Will murdering your girlfriends dad even though it's legal make her run away with you? She'd probably run away... But anywhere other than with you. Decide to give away the hobo then have a moral crisis and let him go.. Nope. That is not smart. As retarded as the whole film is, my biggest gripe was.. The twist at the end where the neighbours kill the invaders. I kinda woulda understood if they were angry that Ethan Hawke sold shoddy security gear but no... It's that they bought an extension with money that the neighbours happily gave him. Goddammit. What is this shit. Awful fucking movie- worst of the year I've seen and hopefully stays the worst. The Iceman- 6/10 Michael Shannon was good but there's very little character development. It's kinda long and doesn't have anything standout about it. David Schwimmer shouldn't have been in it, couldn't take him seriously. A moustache, ponytail and tracksuits? Did they really think that was a good look for Ross..? Also James Franco and Chris Evans' cameos just distracted me. They weren't in it enough to justify their use. Take Shelter- 9/10 Outstanding. Just fucking outstanding. Michael Shannon was unbelievable, the plot was genius and it looked beautiful. One of the best films I've seen in a long time and definitely one of the best of the past few years. Cannot recommend this enough, from its amazing performances to its brilliant direction and script to the utterly amazing ending. Loved every second of this. Masterpiece.
Hm shouldn't you spoiler tag that part where you describe the end of 'The Purge'?
Hm shouldn't you spoiler tag that part where you describe the end of 'The Purge'?
if people really care about the ending to that monstrosity of a film, they should rethink their life
if people really care about the ending to that monstrosity of the film, they should rethink their life
Yeah I guess that's true. I wasn't planning on seeing it anyway.
the hobbit ok its not a masterpiece, but it isnt "not even close to the originals" either, IMO. its a fun fantasy movie, though its pretty predictable. it has what makes lotr cool, but not what makes it great. still a nice addition to the series. escape from planet earth bleh, straight up kids movie, not the kind thats made for kids but can still appeal to adults. stranger than fiction i dont know why i love this movie so much. i guess its just the fact that the "hero" is not really a hero, and i love movies like that. really emotional too, especially as it develops later on. when i watched this in the cinema i had a pretty bad experience (bad movie theater, the one guy with a weird laugh), but watching it at home really let me appreciate it.
Post-movie theatre blues, if you will. I still stick with my 4/10, and people should stop being so anal about ratings.
just stop using numbered ratings if you don't understand how they work. [editline]13th June 2013[/editline] Catch Me If You Can. Very good movie. Simple, but enjoyable. Loved the main characters. 6½ Leonardo Di Caprios out of 4 Tom Hanks.
Master of Disguise- 0/10 Jesus fuck. Got a lecture after it was done because I hated it. Apparently I just don't know what good comedy is, especially since I thought the turtle scene was annoying.
I don't know what you expected from a 3.1/10 on IMDB, and a 1% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I've generally found those two sites extremely generous for most movies.
Well it seems like you have a friend with terrible taste in comedy, or movies in general for that matter
Short list of films he deems "great" that I disagree with. -Beastly -Transformers -2 Fast 2 Furious -Sucker Punch -Master of Disguise -The Animal -That's My Boy -Grown Ups -The Hangover -The Expendables Apparently I'm just "not a man" for hating The Expendables and the Transformers movies because there's "literally nothing wrong with them". [sp] Also, he hates the show Breaking Bad because "nothing ever happens in it". [/sp]
You know you can stop being friends with him, right?
You know you should stop being friends with him, right?
Fixed that for you.
Nah, he's an nice guy. He just has awful taste.
Then just don't watch movies with him, or talk about them. Same with me, basically all my friends have terrible taste so I can only speak "properly" about cinema on internet. I have to watch stuff by myself. It's just a pain in the ass trying to reason with people like this, don't waste your time trying.
No one here seen Now you see me yet? The hell?
Oldboy - 10/10 American Phsycho - 10/10 Both amazing films. Wish I had a blu ray copy of them both as the quality of the film wasn't too great. Both had amazing performances, especially loved Bale as Bateman.
American Psycho's Blu Ray quality is pretty shoddy, for some reason.

Jesus wow that was incredible. 8/10 [sp]also was it just me or did you keep getting confused when seeing the guy that supposedly got his hand cut off because I swear I saw both his hands on several occasions[/sp]

Only catching up on films now. Really need some recommendations of films to watch. For somebody who wants to be a film director I really haven't watched that many films. Also [sp]I was confused as to the gold tooth guy all along, it was only after reading online after the film that I realized it was the guy who was watching the cameras in the prison place. Dumb I know. But yeah I was fairly confused as to the whole hand situation too. Should rewatch it and see if I notice it[/sp] Anybody have a recommendation for a film I should watch next that will blow me away
No one here seen Now you see me yet? The hell?
I saw it. You missed my post.
Australia doesn't get it until August for some reason. How the hell can that be good for profits?

Man Of Steel- 8/10 Really great. Zack Snyder owns this shit. The best film Snyder has done and the best Superhero movie of this generation bar The Dark Knight, and probably the best Superman film but it's been a while since I've seen them. Definitely crushes anything in the Marvel Universe (which is massively mediocre imo. do not get the hype but whatever, that's a different argument). Also surprisingly nice to look at even outside of special effects- some really nice cinematography here (that shot of Clark as a boy with the red cloth as a cape? Beautiful) and the CGI looks outstanding. Henry Cavill was a brilliant superman. He looks great for the role, his personality was great and not too campy or anything like that, he was also likeable and not a total asshole. Amy Adams as Lois Lane was great. I loved Lois Lane in this. Never really liked her, but they changed her character and role a fair bit and it DEFINITELY worked better ([sp]her knowing Clark Kent=superman from the start is kinda genius and a great twist on the tale[/sp]) Amy Adams captures her perfectly and the relationship between her and Clark isn't huge and shitty- its not a massive thing but it's there and it works perfectly. Michael Shannon shows his prowess as one of the greatest actors of the past few years again, with a fantastic performance as Zod. He was so cool. So damn cool. And Zod himself was great- a villain we understand and empathise with- not evil, just doing what he was born to do. A great character. I don't get why Russell Crowe is getting lauded and Michael Shannon ignored though, imo Crowe was a bit weak although at the same time his character did not give him a lot of room to shine. I loved [sp]Zod's death[/sp] as well. Putting Superman in that situation was great and a massive development point for his character. Really looking forward to the sequel, and hopefully the Justice League. Also.. Those fight scenes. The fight scenes were fucking stunning and so intense. loved each one- the fight between Zod and Superman is one of the best fight scenes I've seen in years. [editline]14th June 2013[/editline] Also Krypton is great. No fucking crystals.
I was going to take my dad to see that at London IMAX on father's day.. fucking thing sold out a week before. :O I may see it in an IMAX digital but I heard it's a gimmick. Anyone seen an IMAX digital screening?
I'm hearing MoS is getting average reviews, mostly because the character development (that means undeveloped characters, oh no Superman Returns all over again) is being ignored in favor of action, I'll have to see for myself
The characters aren't massively deep (although I wouldn't say they were shallow, either) but they're well established and likeable. I didn't find lack of development to be much of an issue. I still cared about them. [editline]14th June 2013[/editline] Actually I'd say Clark and Zod are pretty damn well developed. Interesting characters with a new story compared to previous versions to tell, with human motives and reasoning, with powerful moments in the film that show who they are really well. Also, throughout the start of the film and when [sp]Clark kills Zod[/sp] I definitely felt legitimate strong emotions- [sp]when Jon Kent is talking to Clark by the truck about the school bus and who he is, when Jon dies[/sp] and a couple other moments are really really moving.
oh no Superman Returns all over again
no
World War Z is getting decent reviews.

Ah it's not your fault anyway. Hopefully you'll enjoy this movie.
