Only God Forgives 4/10
Some nice cinematography eclipsed by a shitty plot with unrelatable characters that tries way too hard. I was honestly bored for a lot of that movie.

You can't go wrong with Richard Linklater. His ability to write characters and dialogue that make his films feel real is impeccable. Boyhood is no exception.
The fascinating thing about this film is that it centers on a completely ordinary family. Mason, the main character, doesn't have any psychiatric disorders. His mother didn't die in a car crash shortly after he was born. His dad isn't some powerful millionaire. Every aspect of his life, including his relationships, his parents' relationship, and his aspirations are all things that I could relate to in some capacity.
There are tense moments. There are sad moments. There are sweet moments. There are happy moments. All of these moments form a string of events that are so convincingly acted and so amazingly life-like that it's not difficult to forget that you are watching a film.
The fact that they were able to make the family feel so believable and consistent across the 12 years it took the film this is a feat that should not go unappreciated. As it is easy to forget you're watching a film, it's just as easy to lose yourself in the way time flows in this film. Most scenes segway fluidly into the next, and I found myself examining each shot closely to notice any changes in the ages of the characters. This fluidity even keeps the film from feeling its length (about 2 hours and 40 minutes), which is always a good sign in a lengthy film.
Whether you're already a fan of Richard Linklater, or you've never seen a film he's made, Boyhood is an especially unique treat that pretty much anyone can enjoy and relate to. I'd highly recommend it.
Right, if you guys want an incredible movie, you have to watch:
The Hardy Bucks Movie
Top notch Irish comedy. It's hilarious. About some Irish guys from a smalltime town that go roadtripping across Europe. If you like comedies, this is worth a watch. It's nothing genius, but it made me laugh a lot.
my exposure to Irish comedy is only In Bruges and Mrs Browns Boys and the gamble is a risk I cannot take-- In Bruges might own but Mrs Browns Boys is so insanely, incredibly, unbelievably bad that it is legitimately surreal and nightmarish. It's almost accidental anti-comedy. It's something Tim & Eric wouldn't even come up with as a parody sketch. and the movie is the highest grossing film in the UK right now :(
youve never watched anything by Graham Linehan???
Just looked him up didn't know black books was considered irish that show owns. Wasn't big on father ted tho it just feels like British dad comedy which I generally do not enjoy
Father Ted is absolutely hilarious and I'm not sure what you mean by British dad comedy but I wouldn't describe father Ted as that

I found that whole film boring even after understanding it better. I did like Cheng's scenes, but that's about it.
I actually think the gist of the story is interesting but they just did not execute it very well most of the time.

To me, it was interesting enough while watching it, but it's going to be a long time before I watch it again, if I ever even do.
3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)
9/10
An excellent film, like Point Break, except they dress like Elvis Presley, and rob a casino in Las Veges.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233142/
A gang of ex-cons rob a casino during Elvis convention week.
It was an ingenious enough plan: rob the Riviera Casino's count room during an Elvis impersonator convention. But Thomas Murphy decided to keep all the money for himself and shot all his partners, including recently-freed ex-con Michael Zane. With $3.2 million at stake, the Marshals Service closing in, and single mom Cybil Waingrow and her son Jesse constantly confounding things, Michael must track down Murphy.

Naw, I love OGF but it's pretty understandable if you don't like it.
Full Metal Jacket. 10/10
mrs brown boys. 3/10
I guess its only ok of you're a good fan of the series but it still wouldn't be amazing

Mrs Browns Boys legitimately reminds me of When The Whistle Blows, that fake sitcom from Extras that's supposed to parody dumb British sitcoms that the masses love and regurgitate catchphrases from

somehow Mrs Brown's Boys is worse than the parody??
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Ape Cavalry/10
Yesterday evening I decided to watch a rather ... unusual movie, this one:

It's a 2012 film adaption of the first game of the Ace Attorney series of videogames (for those who don't know, it's a Nintendo exclusive visual novels series about a defense attorney that plays out as an adventure game, with you going around looking for clues and finding contradictions in the various testimonies against your client. It's a favorite of mine because I study law at my university)
Now, my experience tells me that if something coming from Japanese doesn't get a quick international relase it's either of exceptional quality or unbeliveably bad. I was able to sit through it thanks to some fan subs, of course.
Well, I watched its whole 135 minutes and HOLY FUCK.
8/10
The movie is arguably the best videogame adaption I've ever seen.
Granted, the film makers took some liberties with the source material (namely, only the final case of Ace Attorney is EXACTLY TRUE to its game counterpart, while the first two cases are portaied more losely and in an abridged fashion, with Red White taking the story role of both April May and the reporter who framed Misty Fey or Phoenix not being the defense attorney in the Steel Samurai studios case, among other things). Also, detective Gumshoe is very different from his game's persona. But aside from those, everything is fucking spot on almost in every detail. There are even gorgeous remixes of the very music tracks you can hear in the game proper. The attention to the details is truly incredible (a fine example would be an exclusive scene of the movie where Edgeworth is visiting Von Karma's office: the elder prosecutor starts to rub his shoulder as Edgewort leaves. [sp]Every gamer who played the last case of Ace Attorney knows that is due to Von Karma having the bullet of the DL6 Incident still in his body[/sp])
The only two things I didn't like it's the expanded role they give to Larry Butz (but that is due to me not liking the character that much) and a odd scene during the final trail happening out of the blue and not being referred ever again (basically, as the judge is about to pronunce a guilty verdict for [sp]Edgeworth[/sp], the FREAKIN' BLUE BADGER prevents him to do so grabbing the judge's hammer just in time for detective Gumshoe to save the day. And then the badger's costume falls apart and NO ONE IS REVEALED TO BE IN IT. AND NO ONE INSIDE THE COURT GIVES A SINGLE FUCK ABOUT IT)
im looking through Nic Cage's filmography after reading this article by LWL on roles he turned town (turns out there are even more iconic roles that he could have got than I expected), and I am remembering how much of a beloved actor he is to directors, and how many acclaimed directors he's worked with. I've heard a lot of people who've worked with him express genuine love for his work and him as a person. Herzog said his experience with Cage in Bad Lieutenant was one of the best things he's done as a filmmaker, and this is a man who has directed dozens of feature films and documentaries, many very influential, iconic, groundbreaking, classics, and some even considered up there as the best of all time. He's worked with Francis Ford Coppola, Scorsese, Coen Bros, Ridley Scott, David Lynch, Spike Jonze, Alan Parker, John Woo, Brian DePalma, Gore Verbinksi, Andrew Niccol (before he just seemed to stop trying to make good movies), Matthew Vaughn, and just this year David Gordon Green. What a fucking resumé. Tell me again how Cage sucks lmao
nic cage is the legend we needed for the modern age.
i was gonna say he is the Neutral Milk Hotel of films in that he is a weird meme but actually legitimately great but then I remembered Cage actually has a number of really bad films under his belt but NMH are 100% great and if u think they are just some dumb meme band i will fight u
there is literally no other actor who has as good a backlog of directors worked with as the Cage.

he turned down the role of the green goblin in the raimi trilogy, wow, he'd have been great

don't be ridiculous, nobody could outdafoe Willem Dafoe.
Dafoe was perfect for the role but I can absolutely see Cage in the same place doing a fantastically maniacal job. I've also always defended Cage's casting as Aragorn as something that'd have been great. It'd have been a bit different, yeah, but it'd have still worked really well. He wouldn't be the Aragorn we all know today but he'd be something equally good and memorable.

then again i think he'd lack the kinda rooted in nature atmosphere Viggo Mortensen brings across, like he really has this sense and understanding of the beauty of the world. I don't know if Cage could do that quite so much. As a person he clearly does have these feelings though. I know Viggo does too. Iirc he as a farm and stuff and lives pretty rural in New Zealand.

Dafoe was fantastic as Norman Osborn but his Goblin was just okay
although that could just be the terrible costume that barely let him emote
i thot it was a good costume :(
