would guardians be any good to someone who didnt really like the avengers
would guardians be any good to someone who didnt really like the avengers
definitely not a typical superhero movie so yeah
All super hero movies are the same here on facepunch. For a few weeks post release: 9.5/10 best marvel film ever Few months after DVD/blue ray release: Overrated, was okay 6/10 I tend to disregard early marvel reviews for this reason :v:
Somewhy (tvtropes) felt the need to re-watch Independence Day because I last saw it 10 years ago. Give it 5.5/10 because I couldn't take anything happening seriously.
i hate how movies try to have too grand a finale these days when the same emotional effect can be achieved by a more simple, not explosion filled ending that's written well and has all the right cues. just really getting tired of 'marvel' endings. bring it back a notch, guys.
Exactly what I thought. It was a good movie but sometimes there was just too much going on, too many explosions, too much CGI. The Marvel movies are kinda getting too over the place in the action scenes
definitely not a typical superhero movie so yeah
It's not a superhero movie at all, the only powers people have are "can use knives well", "can build big guns" and "is a tree" aside from "MARVEL STUDIOS" at the beginning, a few easter eggs, Thanos (for one and a half scenes) and the Collector there is virtually no connection between it and the other Marvel movies the main characters are all varying degrees of selfish jackasses in (well-deserved) trouble with the law and half of them have no direct quarrel with the villain, they just want the macguffin
I hope the Avengers 2 ends up being sort of a bittersweet victory, with the Avengers winning again but with dire consequences
99% of movies are like this so i dont know why you singled this one out
they shouldn't be.

So I just finished watching a movie called "Zindy The Swamp Boy" (AKA "Zindy, el Fugitivo de los Pantanos"). It's a movie by Rene Cardoza, Jr. made in the early 1970's, and dubbed to English from the original Spanish. The plot is that a man sees his son and daughter-in-law die from an attack, shoots and kills the guys he thinks were responsible, and runs off into the jungle with his infant grandson (apparently those guys were respected or powerful figures and sticking around would have lead to jailtime). Fast-forward a few years, and the titular swamp boy, "Zindy", lives off the land with his grandfather, hunting animals (including crocodiles for some reason), trying to kill a puma that Zindy delcares "my archenemy", and being warned not to go into the swamp because it's full of quicksand (that's right, the Swamp Boy doesn't even live in the swamp itself, just next to it). Also, he has a pet Tarantula and a Chimpanzee sidekick. At this point the movie seems to be a kid-friendly adventure movie, right? WRONG! At first, it's just plain weird, and the interactions between the boy and his grandfather come off real creepy, even with the knowledge that the actors playing them were also grandfather and grandson. Skinny dipping together, awkward tickling, the fact that they keep that Chimpanzee around. There are also a lot of pointless "grandpa rows around in his canoe while Zindy plays the same fucking tune on his wooden flute over and over again" scenes. Halfway through the movie, however, things take a turn for the depressing. First, the grandfather gets lost in a thunderstorm and falls into the very quicksand he warned Zindy to stay away from, leaving only his hat for Zindy to find. The chimpanzee is keen on scaring away all the potential food Zindy and it need to survive. In another thunderstorm a young girl becomes the sole survivor of a horse-drawn-carriage crashing and befriends Zindy (this is the first time Zindy ever sees another actual human, aside from his own grandfather), and after Zindy makes a trip to a village to try to get sugar for her, he remembers his grandfather's warning that some of the people in the village would try to hurt him, and runs away from the first person who recognizes him. Unfortunately, that man was his Godfather, the only person Zindy's grandfather still kept regular contact with. He returns to his shack to find the girl missing (because you should never trust a chimp to keep watch over someone), so he goes out to find her. [sp]She crosses paths with that puma I mentioned earlier, and Zindy manages to distract it long enough for it to decide to maul him instead (right in front of the poor girl and within earshot of a rescue party that was looking for her, headed by the aforementioned Godfather), and the last shot is of his bloody and torn body, as he deliriously declares to his grandfather that he has finally killed their enemy (despite the fact that we don't actually see him do anything aside from scream in fear while futilely attempting to defend himself, all from the point of view of the puma itself) before he dies, with that tune he used to play on his flute playing in the background.[/sp] Yeah, it's a real happy ending, isn't it? The only thing preventing me from falling into a pit of despair after seeing this? I was watching the Rifftrax'd version, so throughout the whole movie I was also listening to the guys from Rifftrax doing their best to make this movie bearable. Even so, this is the closest I've ever gotten to being genuinely upset over the ending of a movie that had ever been riffed in the history of Rifftrax, MST3K, or any similar works of riffing. I'm going to go watch a happier movie before I go off myself, 'kay?
Guardians of the Galaxy 4/5 I had a big grin the whole time. Sure, it was formulaic and the explosion laden finale was expected, but I loved every minute of it. So what if it was formulaic? It works.

Watched Transcendence earlier. It was an okay movie with a good idea, but bad execution.
hellboy - 10/10 im probably wrong but its one of my top 5 movies one of the very few i can rewatch however many times and enjoy it like the first time also has one of my favorite scores of all time
Apocalypto - 8/10 probably not totally historically accurate, loved it anyway. really well done main actor was great
Maybe it's just me but I liked Hellboy 2 more than the original
its not just you, its a much better movie
Maybe it's just me but I liked Hellboy 2 more than the original
it's more GDT than the first, that's for sure. watching the movie not knowing shit about the comics made it seem a little odd but fuck me did it have some beautiful visuals, and the first one was awesome enough to attract comic and non-comic fans i want hellboy 3 and have been wanting it since 2006
i love them both, and can see that more work was put into the second one, but for more reasons than one, ill always like the first one more [editline]2nd August 2014[/editline] reason numero uno [editline]2nd August 2014[/editline] beltrami also did the ost for i, robot the same year no wonder they both have genius scores [editline]2nd August 2014[/editline] really wish beltrami scored the 2nd hellboy too elfman is great, but his score just didnt do hellboy justice rip
Apocalypto - 8/10 probably not totally historically accurate, loved it anyway. really well done main actor was great
this film gets slated so much because of Mel I love it and think it's a contender for a 10/10
The Hunt for Red October - 8/10 I kinda stumbled upon a fan made trailer for this which is what made me watch it. I don't know if it was intentional or not but it was put together to make it seem like the movie was about stopping a Russian sub from firing missiles at the US. It set up an expectation that the movie subverted which I like. Also Sean Connery was great in this.
I feel guardians was formulatic on purpose; it seemed like they were trying to be textbook superheroes
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 eh, watchable. the fight scenes are mostly dumb as fuck, short as fuck and void of any creativity, plus there aren't many. The acting is good for the most part, the characters are also fairly interesting but the movie is generally poorly executed. Rhino was a complete waste and obviously used as an audience-grabber in the trailers, I mean come on. as a whole I wouldn't recommend it. and how hasn't oscorp been shut down after releasing crazy monsters and robots, wtf
I walked out of Spiderman Redo 2 and saw Noah instead, that's how bad I thought it was. And that's never happened before. I didn't walk out of Transformers 2 or National Treasure 2, but Spiderman Redo2 was just unnecessarily poor.
You saw Transformers 2? I'm surprised you survived at all
I would have walked out of Transformers 2 if I wasn't there with my friends.
a few pages ago people were badmouthing George Lucas, I wish to continue this: Star Wars was just a rip off of a kurosawa film anyway, what is the real miracle is how he actually used his brain and personal life influence in making American Graffiti. That movie is just a great experience, and I'll always remember it. He earned so much money after that, that the quarter pounders he bought with his profits fused with his brain cells and that was that. [editline]2nd August 2014[/editline]
You saw Transformers 2? I'm surprised you survived at all
meh I was talking to girls midway through so I lost concentration through most of it. they seemed to focus more on how Megan Fox's botox treatment ruined her face completely than the actual film, and I was in agreement so it's all good.
I hated both The Amazing Spiderman movies, I ended up skipping through most of the boring dialogue to watch the action sequences. Still, a very dull movie. Original Spiderman did it better.
Went to see Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday. What was pretty funny was the group of about eight kids who looked about 13-14 years old all getting aggressive because the ticket guys ID'd them when they tried to buy tickets for the new Purge film. Then in the queue to get to the films, a couple of kids who'd tried to beat the system by booking them online were stopped due to looking like they were 10-11. But yeah, Guardians was a pretty solid film. I think I liked it as much as I did the new Captain America, maybe a tiny bit more. Then afterwards I got a tweet from a friend saying they were at the local park. Headed over, saw a crowd of about five hundred people all crowded around a massive projector screen, sat down and watched Dirty Dancing for free. Again, pretty good film. Pretty entertaining watching a crowd of people dancing along to "The Time Of My Life" as well :v:
Guardians of the Galaxy 9/10 Generally fun throughout the film. Some of the characters motivations were not quite fleshed out or clear, but it didn't make them less interesting. The pacing was spot on with fast pace action sequences with slow moments and bits of humor. A good mix of practical and CGI effects. Overall an enjoyable film for those who don't even know the original material.
