Catch Me if You Can - 8.5/10
Yeah this was really good.
X-Men (2000) - 7/10
Layers upon layers of cheese, but a good concept of realistic human/mutant relations if it actually did happen somehow.
Drive
I don't think it would be fair if I rated it right away without giving it some thought first. But its style and tone is superb.
So was Ryan Gosling's character [sp]a sociopath or something? I know he obviously cared for Mulligan and her kid, but almost every exchange of dialogue in the first half of the film started with him staring at the other person for about 5 seconds and then giving a one word answer, or nothing at all. He seemed very strange at the beginning, but then appeared to act more normally as the movie progressed (which is rather strange considering the events that happened).[/sp]
Captain America the winter soldier
Surely one of the best marvel flicks, far better than the first avenger. The only issue that I have with it is the final battle. The earlier ones had more practical effects and were more creative and well choreographed. The final battles is just a CGI fest. anyway 8/10 would watch again

Well it's deliberately left unexplained but my guess is [sp]he's probably mildly autistic. At least the character fits in the typical "movie autist" formula :
- Socially awkward, hardly ever talks
- Super gifted at one thing
- Sudden violent outbursts[/sp]
I liked Titanic 3D, there was nothing wrong with it to me. Besides [sp] 3d kate winslet boobies [/sp]
hercules - 8/10
expected mindless action-fest and was pleasantly surprised
loved the battles and characters
also ian mcshane was in it and i really like ian mcshane
Berserk: Golden Age Arc I
I don't know why I watched this but I'm glad I did. It was basically dark souls and game of thrones mashed into an anime movie. It was nicely animated for the most part but it would sometimes switch between really stiff awkward 3D animation to super nice looking 2D which could be a little jarring at times. It was pretty decent though, I'll definitely see the next two.
Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It
8/10
This movie is worth watching for the Lahey scenes alone.

I'd recommend that you do.
Guardians of the Galaxy -7.5/10
I don't know if I didn't take the mandatory pre-screening happy drugs or what, but I did not have the same reaction as everyone else. I think my expectations were wrong or something, but I still don't see where everyone is coming from with the whole "this is a masterpeice" thing.
I mean, it isn't bad by any means but it isn't some flawless gem. It wasn't nearly as funny as I thought it was going to be, but I think I was just misled by the "oh so wacky" trailers. It is very much another Marvel movie: good, but it doesn't really get out of the "Marvel comfort zone".

thought this gave some interesting insight, psychologist watches Drive
http://www.popcorntaxi.com.au/2013/06/blog/drive-clinical-psychologist-profiles-ryan-goslings-driver-character/
Winding Refn came out and said that the main characters from Valhalla Rising, Drive and Only God Forgives are exactly the same characters but in different contexts. The brooding loner with a mysterious past. I don't think they're autistic.
Life After Beth 7/10
Fun film, good actors. Felt a bit lacking.
Winding Refn came out and said that the main characters from Valhalla Rising, Drive and Only God Forgives are exactly the same characters but in different contexts. The brooding loner with a mysterious past. I don't think they're autistic.
gosling's character in Drive always struck me as more calm and soften spoken than awkward. I understand why a lot people think he's a bit autist but after I watched it for the first time I got a different impression
he had a relaxed smile, good eye contact, wasn't high strung in conversations etc. idk, he had a powerful presence
so i watched the next two berserk movies
the second one was like the first, more medieval conflict n shit. was good
then the third one has nito fighting the taurus demon and a main character turning into a demon god and raping people
i was confused
The Fly (1986)
8/10 pretty good film.

yea none of the characters are fuckin autistic way to just totally remove any depth to the characters and just label them as a walking diagnosis its dumb as hell. his films are fantasy films, they're not real life, they're not realistic, and his characters aren't meant to be either. Just roll with it instead of trying to justify it in far-fetched real world links. The "autistic" explanation is just one of the worst things
Guardians of the Galaxy, I fucking loved it. I haven't gone and rewatched a movie in the cinema in forever, but this one I definitely will. I genuinely enjoyed it from start to finish.
It was pretty amazing.
Rocky 4 - 6/10
It's one big guilty pleasure. So silly yet I love it.
World War Z
I mean I went in with rock-bottom bustop low levels of hope that it would be good. I wasn't really wrong in that regard I guess, it wasn't quite as horrid as I had imagined it may be but I was still sort of met with an overall feeling of "ehhhh" after it was done. Just bland as fuck and I can't even really remember any of the main characters names because there were literally no characters in the movie I think
4.something/10
Rise of the Guardians of the Galaxy of Ga'Hoole
8/10 or another positive score/10
Very fun, creative, emotional, cute and pretty distinctive movie. Doesn't feel like another boring superhero movie. Go watch it?
Dredd - 8.5/10
That gore.
why is it cheap, they're literally only transfering something that has already existed in comic books for over 70 years (a shared universe) to the big screen. why is it even a gimmick to begin with. and yes, it feels "far apart"- because just because you have a shared universe it doesn't mean every movie has to have the same feel
The shared universe is the thing I love most about Marvel's films (apart from their quality, characters and humor). I never got to read comics (they aren't really a thing where I live) and the MCU fills that hole in my inner geek to some degree.
Stay 7.5/10
I really liked it. I think McGregor is a complete misscast for the role and Goslings character is a bit too much of a stereotype but apart from that I really liked the movie.
The way it's cut is at times as confusing as it is formidable and I really like how the story doesn't really rely on delivering a message but rather showing its interesting premise and leaving the viewer to make of it what he wants.
The plot holes in Rises can be explained with they wanted the movie to be under 3 hours long.
Do we really need 10 minutes to see that Bruce got back to Gotham? We know he got there, it really doesn't matter how.
It's why you don't show a whole car trip to show a character going to work.
Details like that are what makes the experience interesting. By your logic all a movie needs is following a basic list of plot elements but that is what makes movies the soulless hunks we haveas "blockbusters" nowadays, propelled by nothing by their PR campaign.
When in reality a guy on his way to a little girls birthday party is one of the best movies ever.
i liked Stay, hidden gem tbh.
A Most Wanted Man
Everything that you'd expect from a Le Carre's adaptation. It was even slower than Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which was great. Philip Seymour Hoffman was great, but the rest of the cast was also stellar. Watching this made me realize for how long I haven't seen any good spy thriller. Definitely this year's must watch, if you can stand its specific nature. I heard groans in my theater afterwards.
well blu-ray.com wholeheartedly disagree with you and they tend to know their stuff but whatever
blu-ray.com also sometimes give glowing reviews to horrendous transfers
This Island Earth (1955)
7/10
An old good Science Fiction film, later in the film the creatures look like the ones from Mars Attacks!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047577/
Aliens come to Earth seeking scientists to help them in their war.
Dr. Meacham is chosen along with others by the inhabitants of the planet Metaluna to do research that will help save their dying planet. However, an evil scheme is uncovered by the suspecting Dr. Meacham when he discovers the Metalunan's plan to take over Earth. Guardians of the Galaxy
4/5
Rewatch. Still just as good.
The Sacrament 4/10
The found footage style is done pretty alright for the majority of the film but falls apart at the end.
Very suspenseful early on, which is what I expected from Ti West and the main reason I watched it. Then, it lost all suspense when it became apparent that [sp]it was just a dramatization of Jonestown, because I'm already quite familiar with the events. Once I realized that it wasn't just similarities between the parish and Jonestown and I was able to guess the rest of the story (Oh, she's gonna give them a note saying "help us," things will get weird, there'll be a shooting at the airstrip, and mass suicide) I just lost all interest. Not to say that the events unfolding wasn't boring, but that without surprise there's not much left.[/sp] I was hoping for a new story but unfortunately I didn't get it.
So I just watched The Game, a rather highly rated film... and I just do not get it. Even before the absolutely absurd ending, nothing made any sense. It just felt like a series of random "exciting" "traumatic" things happening to this poor guy. Then oh god the ending.
[sp]I would have beaten the absolute shit out of my brother if he put me through that. And I'd probably suffer from PTSD for the remainder of my life.
What if Nick obtained a really real gun somewhere between Mexico and San Francisco? What if he leaped from the building on a different side? I'm also certain a jump pad wouldn't have saved him from a 50 story plummet. What was the ultimate point here? "LOL you should have seen the look on your face when you thought you accidentally murdered me!"[/sp]
Maybe it'd work better if the film didn't take itself so dead-seriously. It carries the same tone as Fincher's other features.
