I didn't enjoy The Game at all
So I just watched The Game, a rather highly rated film... and I just do not get it. Even before the absolutely absurd ending, nothing made any sense. It just felt like a series of random "exciting" "traumatic" things happening to this poor guy. Then oh god the ending.
[sp]I would have beaten the absolute shit out of my brother if he put me through that. And I'd probably suffer from PTSD for the remainder of my life.
What if Nick obtained a really real gun somewhere between Mexico and San Francisco? What if he leaped from the building on a different side? I'm also certain a jump pad wouldn't have saved him from a 50 story plummet. What was the ultimate point here? "LOL you should have seen the look on your face when you thought you accidentally murdered me!"[/sp]
Maybe it'd work better if the film didn't take itself so dead-seriously. It carries the same tone as Fincher's other features.
My exact thoughts when I watched the film. How is [sp]psychologically torturing someone until he commits suicide a fun prank?
IMO it would have been much better if the whole point of it all really was to get his money. At least it wouldn't have been so ridiculously absurd in a wanna-be serious way.[/sp]

That's the point, it's for yuppies who've done everything else. Thrillseekers, people bored with life. The thing to do for someone who's done/has everything. It's far fetched but entirely understandable
It's a pretty well used trope tbh and it works well if it's done right. Rope does it amazingly (im never gonna stop talking about Rope when I can it's too good)
have had a big superhero boner recently
Batman Begins - 8/10
The Dark Knight - 8.5/10
The Dark Knight Rises - 8/10
bane was terrible, what the fuck was up with that voice seriously
Man of Steel - 7/10
meh. too much destruction, not enough superman stuff, never really liked him anyway
Man of steel was a laughably bad superman movie.
Zack Snyder just doesn't understand what makes superheroes likable.
i thought there would be more helping world problems than just helping himself
never seen anything superman related so i dunno really
Well the big problem of the movie is more that superman murders fucking everyone by fucking up half of metropolis in that one fight.
come on it was his first day cut him some slack
Protectors of Cosmo Space
Really, really, REALLY entertaining! It had some clichés but it mostly delivered on everything. great actors, funny script, really nice dynamic between everything
the only real big negative thing is the protagonist had almost no backstory and I felt that there was no motive either. but it didnt really matter in the end for me
83/100
Guardians of the Galaxy:
Looks fantastic, really exciting campy action and p.funny. Some great performances in there Bradley Cooper and Dave Baustia would be my personal picks as the best talent there. Only issue I have is that the villains felt a bit underwhelming when we establish within the same film that there's basically a straight up stronger bad guy but I suppose they saving it for the sequel.
8/10

Rope is in Hitchcock's top five for sure, but I'd love to see an original play.
What is your favourite Hitchcock film, guys? Mine would be probably Rear Window.
come on it was his first day cut him some slack
another thing that annoys me in the movie is that Superman is thirty-three years old and is just now getting around to saving the world
I get that it was done to ham-handedly force a ~Space Jesus~ metaphor (which I've never thought of as a particularly good characterization for Superman) but come on, that's way too old.
X-Men (2000) - 7/10
never seen anything from these guys, p cool
i've been plowing through a lot, any other good superhero movies?
iron man series is by far my favorite
Frozen - 7/10
Saw it with my girlfriend, she made me watch it. Was actually pretty satisfied with it, and I enjoyed the film a lot.
Pacific Rim - 8/10
Some minor technical gripes (night fights, constant raining), but other than that, I adored this movie
Guardians of the Galaxy - I Am Groot/10
I loved it, I can't wait to see it again.
My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?
It's the weirdest Herzog's film I've seen so far. And that is an accomplishment. Many good things about this film, many weird. I need at least few days to stomach this film and think about what I just saw.
Machete Kills
eh/10. for a film that's supposed to be all outlandish and crazy, they sure didn't do many outlandish or crazy things with it
watched a lot of movies last night
Valhala Rising - 7/10
bit conflicted about this one, definitely better than OGF
Bronson - 8/10
The World's End - 6/10
it was alright, nowhere near as good as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz
Bronson deserves at least a 9.
Bronson deserves at least a 9.
yeah, maybe. i liked it a lot. Tom Hardy was great
I was hooked from start to finish. So many brilliant scenes, and Hardy really outdid himself.
Event Horizon 1/10
Wow what a dead space ripoff I can't believe these people got away with it like seriously, everything is taken from Dead Space, the theme the idea the scenes, everything. Paul Andorsen should be sued for this. Gave it a 1/10 because it has a scene with titties.
Okay seriously though, it's a really good movie. Some of the special effects haven't aged too well - all of the zero G thing looks off, especially the liquids, and the [sp]Lewis & Clark explosion scene[/sp] is almost stop motion (funny that the CGI in a 1997 movie looks better than most of Paul Anderson's recent movies).
Some scenes and characters are weirdly off-tone though, like [sp]Cooper being comic relief and having a scene where he blasts off into space yelling I'M COMING MOTHERFUCKERS[/sp].
Real score's probably like 8.5. It gets dumber as it goes but at least it's fun. If I gave it a more indepth look it'd probably drop by a few points though.
Now to watch Valhalla Rising.
Guardians of the Galaxy 10/10
Favorite characters are Rocket the raccoon, Groot, and Peter Quill.
I never read the comics or even know the existence of it before watching the film and yet imo it was The best Marvel movie so far.
I think I really enjoyed it bc of how dynamic the movie was it was action packed, there were some sad points thrown in there but they were swiftly countered by the shit tons of comedy in the film, and then they also hit it with a hint of romance.
I fucking loved the fact that they used 70's & 80's music for Peter's Awesome Mix tapes bc that was the kind of music I listened to in my uncle's truck growing up as a kid.
Didn't really expect to like it from the trailers but I guess that just means they didn't spoil anything for us.
So glad I saw it in the theater with a bunch of my friends.

[sp]Think of it like A Christmas Carol where Nick is Scrooge. He's wealthy, cold and distant to everyone, much like his father. The goal is to help him change his ways, make him really live a little so he doesn't end up jumping off a building like his father.[/sp]

Me and a friend, for a festival, did a duo interp scene of the intro, up until the guests arrive.
Won first place :^)
Fucking love Rope.
"repeat alert"
saw Apocalypse Now Theatrical Cut...
yeah it's the billionth time this film will be mentioned but I've never said my peace about this version of the film.
Now... unlike most "director cuts" which nit pick a few scenes and refine a few things here and there, this thing has a vibe of a very different film.
That might sound absurd, but I'm totally serious.. Unlike Dances with Wolves which imo the director cut is only for fans as the original is already 3 hours long..
I've become accustomed to the Redux and have always trying to figure it out but the theatrical cut is baffling. We get places much quicker due to the film being void of the "epic" length. The things that we miss are the seemingly more "dream-like" sequences and there's a lot of filmic texture removed; we miss such as the torrential rain and eloquent mansion indoor scenes. People can really argue as to if these retract from the experience or not but it's your own personal experience and I don't care.
Coppola was very improvisational and he chopped and sliced until he got a neat picture; trouble is... I could barely breathe through the scenes, we get so quick to [sp]Clean's death[/sp] and we have no time to mourn. Also I don't know about you but I thought the [sp]playboy helicopter[/sp] scenes were very enthralling and it leads to an argument that in the theatrical cut is missed out. I'm nit-picking here but yeah there's a wide selection of little things that enrich scenes and prolong the experience for the betterment of the piece.
Many folk may be puzzled by how much the Redux slows and speeds in pace and it really demands you go with the flow as compared with the much easier to digest shorter cut.
Anyhow, I'm still torn between which is better.. but I personally prefer to linger and kick back with beer for the full monty.
So I'll still fully advocate the following important information briefing:

Lights in the Dusk
I found a new drinking game. Take a shot (recommending jägermeister) when someone is having a smoke, double it each if there's additional smokers onscreen.
Redux is a lot better. I really felt the length of the boat's journey and the helplessness and shaky mental state of the crew with the added scenes. And the French plantation scene is really good too.
Maybe I shouldn't have splurged on this but....eh, fuck it.

This was the first Godzilla movie I ever saw. I _love_ Godzilla 2000.
