World's Greatest Dad is probably the most depressing film he's done now that he died like this... because [sp]his son in the film dies by hanging[/sp]
That's just horrible. :(
Anyone who hasn't seen World's Greatest Dad should go watch it on Netflix, it's more relevant than ever. Brilliant film too.
Godzilla Raids Again - 6/10
Raids Again was an experimental film that basically was a "Okay c'mon guys, let's go for one more".
Fun Fact:
In the US, it was retitled Gigantis the Fire Monster.
After Godzilla: King of the Monsters! was released.
Locke
This is a very simple movie. It involves Tom Hardy driving his BMW to London and talking on his phone. It consists solely of dialogue and Hardy's reactions. And god damn that was brilliant. It's in the same vein as Buried with Ryan Reynolds, but I think this was even better than that. It's slow and I understand the low ratings from viewers who were expecting a British Drive. But for me that was the cinema in its highest form, definitely one of the highlights of the first half of this year.
And I love this little bit of trivia:
The movie had an unconventional shooting schedule. Tom Hardy filmed his part in 6 days, shooting the movie twice per night as it was filmed in a single take. The other actors were in a hotel room, speaking on the phone with Hardy, who was on location.
Godzilla vs The Smog Monster (Alt: Godzilla vs Hedorah) - 8/10
Special effects are wonderful, the story is well crafted and to the point, the enemy is terrifying and the final fight is oddly satisfying.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot/10
Fucking glorious. I went to see it with my brother and my dad and I was the only one to understand the after-credits scene. [sp]I was like OH SHIT IT'S HOWARD ! LOOK IT'S HOWARD ! and they just looked at me confused.[/sp]
Good Will Hunting
I really really like this movie. I'm glad I watched it again, after so many years. I'd basically forgotten the plot. I enjoyed it.
Locke (2013)
It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it clicked with me. It somehow feels slower in the last third though, and that's not a good sign for a movie where barely anything happens. I'd say... 7/10? Maybe? I'm not sure, but it definitely wasn't bad.
who the fuck was expecting this lol
You'd be surprised. Or maybe it's just the retards I have to deal with everyday.
Boyhood 9.7/10
I didn't want it to end. I really wanted to see this kid go through college to life itself to his death, was how good it was.
Only a few gripes that took this down from being a 10. Some questions and loose ends never really got resolved. I really wanted to see what happened to [sp]the abusive drunk step dad[/sp]. A future follow up would have been nice.
Also I felt like some transitions moved around too fast or they age skipped too far during a single transition. When Mason got older I felt they neglected to show enough of his personal growth. No first kiss, no proms or homecoming, etc. Which is kind of important in teen lifestyle. More school stuff in general would have been cool. They had that whole scene [sp]in the school bathroom where the dickhead kids were trying to start something, but they never really went further with bullying or really any other type or in-school stuff[/sp]
I honestly would have liked to see more of the sister. While I know it's called Boyhood I felt the sister should of had some more screen time too. I would have also liked more time with their biological dad. He was probably my favorite character of them all. All the other dads [sp]really fucking sucked. Like their mom literally made poor choices throughout the entire movie by dating all of her students who ended up being total cocks. Even the soldier who I thought would be pretty cool ended up being a shit head.[/sp]
I was kind of confused when it came to Mason's acting. At times I was felt he was nailing the awkward teen stage where everything he says just comes out uncomfortably and awkward. While other times I thought that maybe it was just his actor doing a poor job. For the most part though he did a fantastic job. I also loved how he wasn't some pretty boy in the end and he looked like a greasy grimy teen like we all did or currently do.
Overall the acting was fantastic and fully realized. Every interaction felt genuine. Not to mention the fact that the movie and its characters aged over time and it was fantastic seeing the entire time experience through a single movie. Wow, unbelievable film. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
Chinatown
5/5
A perfectly made noir movie. One of my favorite Nicholson performances.
Big Trouble in Little China
9/10
I never rate a film I've not seen, other than that it's all in the enjoyment. And I enjoyed this film. A lot of action with a heavy drizzle of comedy that's just right. Though I prefer my mind control without dirty old men.
The Birdcage
4/5
One of my favorite comedies with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. Not William's funniest performance, but mostly because Lane steals the show easily. Still, he gets in some hysterical moments.
there's quite a few Robin Williams films that I've been meaning to see tbh... yet to see Awakenings which is meant to be really good.
Snowpiercer: 7.5/10
Saw it with a group of five, only one of them didn't like it. We then all got into a huge fight about suspension of disbelief, where one of my friends called me an "asshole about film"
my main problem (maybe only) with snowpiercer re: suspension of disbelief is that, everyone on the train after the slum portion seemed to be doing their one thing, like, all of the time. where does anybody sleep? where to those ravers hang their hats? there were some rooms previous that has traditional train booths, but it didn't seem to have anything people could sleep in, more like a 'reading and tea' booths.
how come the train doesn't just have two stories per cart? creating the room required to actually house people in their downtime. and do people really have to walk through all of the carts between the one they want to go to? if i want to go take a bath i have to walk through a meat locker?

other than that i loved the movie

GotG
9/10
Jerks in space, I loved it.
The Magnificent Seven
Whatever score I gave Seven Samurai.
Locke - 8/10

Das Experiment (2001) - 9/10
man o man i dont think ive ever been this stressed out during a movie before? it kept escalating and escalating in such a realistic way it honestly scared me.

Got a very B-feel to it, but it's highly entertaining and the special effects are pretty well made. Not a fantastic movie, but definitely not a bad one either. Very entertaining if nothing else.

Also Jakob The Liar was amazing, one of the best world war 2 movies ever.
Pacific Rim, 8/10. Pretty awesome, if simple action movie. Love the Jaeger designs.
The French Connection
5/5
Been a long while since I've seen this movie, and it's just as tense and insane as it was when I first saw it.
The Party (1968)
4/5
I love movies that have scenes that are fun to watch which also look like they were an absolute blast to shoot, that's pretty much the entire ending to this one. Had me smiling and, as crazy as it was, wishing I was there.

Watch Awakenings, it's incredibly draining.
