The General (1998)
Brendan Gleeson plays the notorious criminal in Ireland who was a bit of a Robin Hood figure when he was alive. Cocky, Irish and funny makes him a worthy topic and Gleeson captures that cheeky bravado perfectly. What I didn't like was the glorification of criminality as this man was a violent thief but all the same the film is a good watch.
Enemy - What/10
After reading so many people saying they were confused by the plot, I was feeling pretty proud of myself for following the storyline for the most part, but was somewhat confused how people could find it that confusing. I was like yeah, some things were strange but I'm sure it'll make sense by the end. Then the ending happened...
I'll admit that I got thoroughly spooked by that, but I can't imagine how bad that would have gotten an [sp]arachnophobe.[/sp] :v:
So yeah, I understood none of the movie now
Great film and the director has given much away in interviews for those wanting more info. Have a dig around and you will find a sub-layer to that film I didn't see on the first watch. Worth reading about and watching a second time.
i didnt even finish blue is the warmest colour

How the fuck did you get your name in green? You're a grade A muppet.

My Neighbor Totoro
nothing really happened but it was sweet and nicely animated
Here's 2 non english language films I'm throwing on here as rec's.
After the wedding (2006)
In the House (2012)
The General (1998)
Brendan Gleeson plays the Irish criminal who stole from the establishment. The real man was a sort of Robin Hood figure but the reality was a violent man who just happened to have that cheeky Irish charm. The film is very good and captures the time and charms of his motley group. Good watch.
jude before you leave, have you seen Calvary?
Yet to see that one..

oh yeah, i can't believe how badly the trailer misrepresents the film [sp]i was really hoping for blair witch in space[/sp]
I don't know if this is proper discussion, but why exactly is jewdozer a ban-on-sight? What did he/she do in the first place to get perma'd?
Just finished my fourth film for today, The Prestige
I liked it a lot. Wouldn't consider it Nolan's best film, but it's certainly nowhere near his worst.

literally took less than two minutes to find out. was a massive homophobe in one of the threads, got perma'd, and alts of permabanned users are always banned because, y'know, they're already banned.
by the way is "Shame" any good? it's been on my list of movies to watch but I've only really heard one person recommend it.
Shame is amazing watch it. sooo much better than 12 Years A Slave (same director. 12YAS was way overblown but Shame fell under the radar until very recently) and Fassbender gives probably the performance of his career so far in it. 100% worth watching. And then rewatching to see it again to get more out of Brandon as a character. And again. It's a tough film but one I can easily rewatch because it's so rewarding.
I tried watching Mad Max the other day. What a let down. I gave it my all and sat through it for an hour desperately hoping it would up to its so-called cult classic status but I shut it off because it bored me to death. None of the characters are interesting and the baddies aren't even cool. No over the top violence either.
Yesterday I watched Kill Bill Vol. 1&2 and really enjoyed it. The over saturated everything about it really draws me in just like any other Tarantino movie. There's not many movies that can make you laugh, get grossed out at, and feel for characters that I've seen and that's cool.

The biggest fan of the series and basically everyone with a half of sight consider Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior as the superior film, introduction to post-apocalyptic genre and just awesome flick. First Mad Max was hardly post-apo at all and there's not much happening so it's worth watching after MM2, if you're curious about Max's backstory.
Beyond Thunderdome is just an abomination. Avoid.

It's pretty awesome. In my local cinema there's a film marathon of "erotic films". They start with both parts of Nymphomaniac, and end with Shame, which is one of the dumbest thing I've heard recently.
I really want to go just to see the faces of people leaving just after watching Shame, and expecting some sex-romance drama. :v:
A History of Violence (2005)
I was recommended this movie in this very thread and I don't know what to think. It was a nice crime drama about one of Cronenberg's popular themes, descent of man and all, but Videodrome and Naked Lunch spoiled me, I guess.
I was sad to see the [sp]Fogarty character to go so soon[/sp], and I also misread the cast list and thought that John Hurt was going to play the brother instead of William, that was certainly a surprise.
My rating would be close to eight William Hurts out of ten. At least now I know what to expect of Eastern Promises.

mad max is dystopian, not post apocalyptic. that's why most people don't like it as much, it's during the fall of civilization, not after the fall of civilization.

I was always under impression that it was shortly before apocalypse, because there are no clear indicators of these things happening, but maybe you're right.
Locke: 7.5/10
I didn't know a damn thing going into this movie, and came out really enjoying it.
Locke: 7.5/10

I kept waiting for the bit where he leaves the car, but towards the end, I realised I didn't care if he stayed in it, I was really enjoying it.
The Purge: Anarchy - 6/10
I love the premise, and if the movie was just based around only the Sergeant, then it would've been a cool mix of Drive and American Psycho.
