see it if you havent read the books if you've read the books, dont
A Lonely Place to Die Surprisingly good. It's odd that I've never heard anything about it other than seeing it pop up on movies websites. It's a very intriguing thriller, thankfully very low on cliches, and with excellent photography and beautiful landscapes of the scottish highlands. It has some flaws for sure, but it holds up enough for me to recommend it to fans of the genre. Husbands and Wives I'm a sucker for Woody Allen movies, and this one certainly didn't disappoint. It's amazing how he manages to keep your full attention using almost exclusively dialogue. An interesting perspective on the lives of married couples, although a little predictable at times it's probably one of his finest pictures.
see it if you havent read the books if you've read the books, dont
for the most part the film is just a literal page-to-screen adaptation.
Muppets Most Wanted - 7/10 This was a fun movie. Another solid adventure with the Muppets, nothing special though. I'm always impressed with how well the Muppeteers get the puppets to "act" - especially Kermit's face.
whats dumb about this name everything that happened in the movie
If that's all you say about the film "nice animation but nothing happened" then you may as well be watching shrek 4.
dont talk shit bout shrek
The Purge: Anarchy - 6/10 I love the premise
It's a shame that absolutely nothing about it makes any goddamn sense.
fucking stop saying the purge's premise is good it is so so so shit damn ill go on about this til they stop making those shitty movies [editline]24th August 2014[/editline] its mere concept is actually fucking dumb as hell
Coherence 7/10
It's a shame that absolutely nothing about it makes any goddamn sense.
I think the movie makers would've had a better project on their hands if they just skipped the class warfare and political preaching overall, and just kept the focus on the people reaking havoc.
everything post Shrek 1 was just not good enough.
you telling me shrek 2 wasn't superior? it had fucking puss in boots voiced by antonio banderas while spoofing his zorro role. speaking of antonio banderas he makes watching expendables 3 worth it.
That entire "I Need A Hero" bit in Shrek 2 is the best thing Dreamworks made up until that point That being said fuck Shrek
Palo Alto (Dir. Gia Coppola, 2014)- 8/10 Gia Coppola is the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola and niece of Sofia Coppola. FFC might only have a handful of good movies under his belt but those good ones are masterful (I watched some of Jack after hearing about Robin Williams... Just abysmally bad honestly), and Sofia Coppola is one of the best American directors working and her female perspective in Hollywood is a big breathe of fresh air. You can tell her films are made and written by a woman and I love it. Aside directing the Coppola family thrives in cinema, with Nicolas Cage (nephew of Francis, cousin of Sophia, and I think that makes him uncle to Gia?) and Jason Schwartzman being two American actors I really love. Roman Coppola as well is has AD'd a bunch of FF Coppola's films and Wes Anderson's (probably a link from Jason Schwartzman) and co-wrote Moonrise Kingdom. If there's a family right now that lives and breathes Hollywood, it's the Coppolas. For this reason I was really really interested in seeing this debut film by the newest director in the family. It's an adaptation of James Franco's 2010 novel of the same name, which is a collection of short stories based in Franco's home town of Palo Alto, inspired by his experiences at the time. I've not read the book. Apparently it's just okay. As I said it's a bunch of connected short stories, about teenagers dealing with vices and stuff. It's similar in the film except it's been weaved into one narrative, although its plot is minimal and it still floats around a few characters. I think it worked brilliantly. It's part Sofia Coppola, part Harmony Korine, and it makes a wonderfully powerful and dreamlike coming of age tale. It's an ensemble piece I guess but the "star" is Emma Roberts of American Horror Story fame, playing a shy teenager who isn't really sure of what's going on with anything. She's great in it and plays totally opposite her character in AHS. I was consistently impressed by how nuanced and believable she was (and considering she is 23 she pulls off late end of high school perfectly fine too). Jack Kilmer (son of Val Kilmer) plays a big role as well and he is really great especially for his first ever acting experience. Franco is brilliant at his part as the gym coach attracted to April (emma roberts). I found myself being tricked by his charm too many times as obviously what he is doing is really questionable/creepy and, being a teacher (well, soccer coach), illegal. Nat Wolff plays pretty much a sociopath, he's pretty manipulative and angry but a weird and out there energetic guy. Ultimately Palo Alto is just about teenagers, its minimalist plot works well and its characters are interesting and really believable. it doesn't beat around the bush with subplots that aren't necessary. The film just kinda shows us these teenagers and we see through their eyes for 100 minutes and it's great. can definitely see this making my end of year list, highly recommend this film. Just don't expect big events or drama to unfold. It's pretty introspective and meditative.
Shrek 1&2 were golden
you telling me shrek 2 wasn't superior? it had fucking puss in boots voiced by antonio banderas while spoofing his zorro role.
it just wasn't funny for me, I know people love it and I saw that as a kid; but even then found it disappointing.
I played the donkey in a stage production of Shrek back in 4th grade. I am completely over every line said in that entire series I don't much care for animated movies outside of Pixar, and even then only up until 2010. Buteven then, I can't imagine Shrek ever being counted as one of the greats that people paint it as. I mean for its time maybe, but Monsters Inc came out the same year, and Toy Story 2 happened two years prior. Both those movies (arguably) overshadow Shrek in almost every aspect.
ye but Shrek brought the memes soo
I love Shrek 1 and 2, what is your guys problems
maybe I should have mentioned another film... Planes perhaps.
Watched TMNT for free yesterday, and it was.. ok-ish.. I've never really been a big TMNT fan. When it aired I would watch it and enjoy it, nothing more than that. The turtles looked a bit, weird. Acting was, ok.
The raid 2 Throat cutting / 10 Awesome sequel, really well made. Crazy fights, nice music and nice cinematography overall.
Stranger By The Lake (Dir. Alain Guiraudie, 2014)- 7.5/10 Very interesting. A very frank, explicit and dangerously sexy look at gay cruising in France, with a far more menacing story underneath the no strings attached sex. The film stars Franck, a 30ish year old handsome man who occasionally cruises (gay hookups) at a beach which has become a spot for it. The film takes place over probably the course of a week, as Franck becomes a regular as he's falling for Michel, a man he's been sleeping with. Thing is, the first time Franck meets him he witnesses Michel drown a man in the lake. Despite having witnessed the crime he still pursues Michel, perhaps because he's the best around for sex. As the film goes on it slowly changes from a drama to a thriller with a fantastically tense ending. Franck also spends a fair amount of time talking to an older man about whatever. Their chats are interesting. The film is meandering and kinda slow, the writing is great, the cinematography and direction are masterful as are the performances. Really good film, but it is very sexually explicit. As it's a nudist beach there's a whole loada dicks and there's several sex scenes which are very clear (but I kinda praise the film for it because aside working with the themes and tone of the film it's good to see Guiraudie tackle the taboo of having penis on film) Recommended, one of the stronger films of the year. But the sexual nature does mean you maybe wanna think about who you're watching it with if you're not alone [editline]24th August 2014[/editline] going to watch Marie Antoinette shortly. Anyone seen it?
