You talking shit about District B13?
i aint seen it im just making a sweeping generalisation cos all that I've seen post Fifth Element is garbage tbh im well aware he could have good stuff too but I decided to ignore that thought for a sensationalist statement cos i suck

I'd put it on the same shelf as The Raid: Redemption, but with slightly less blood.
The Illusionist - 6.5/10 Enjoyable for what it is, but the story was dull and the characters were flat. Ghost In The Shell - 8.5/10 Very impressive visually. The actual story isn't too interesting but the themes and questions brought up by the whole thing (and the way they're brought up) is amazing. Probably a lot of subtlety that flew over my head on the first watch, I'll likely watch it again to catch it all.
its not underrated at all
should have won best picture that year, or inglourious basterds.
Saw Lucy expecting just a regular action movie about OP Scarlett Johansson, lost my shit when she got to like 80% brain capacity Evangelion/10
The Giver - 6.5/10 I'm not sure how the book fairs compared to the movie, but the movie itself was pretty interesting to watch. Plenty of feels, good performances with a very unique setting. I can't help but feel like the movie plays it too safe though. The plot sorta feels like it took some chances (which it probably did in the book) but the movie plays it off safe instead. The ending was pretty bad too... not enough to ruin the movie but not solid enough for an ending either.
Saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wasnt too bad, certainly not deserving of all the hate it got.

Cloverfield 7/10 i actually really liked it, i liked it the first time i watched it in the cinema and i still like it now. Godzilla 6/10 really unimpressed by it, quite boring if im honest. Not to mention the guy from Kickass was pretty annoying in it. Kickass 2 7.5/10 thought it was pretty funny, can't say much apart from it was a nice film.
kick ass 2 was anything but a "nice" film that is such a weird word to use to describe it. Like if you enjoyed it whatever but "nice"? Its tone and content are so far from "nice" whether you think it is good or bad it's about two teenagers brutally murdering people and killing policemen with a lawnmower and making an awful rape joke and all the names are lowbrow offensive how is it nice

Like i was just content with it. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't terrible. it was just "nice" not as in "kind" or "sweet" but nice as in somewhere between "Alright" and "not terrible"
kick ass 2 is abysmally bad
continuing on the mickey rourke spree, I think this is the most out of place scene of all time in any film: this DOES NOT deserve to be in this film at all... it's like putting 24 carrot gold shavings onto a pile of dog turds.
Stallone actually wrote that. A lot of people forget he's a pretty prolific screenwriter. He did very quickly devolve into standard action writing though. Like he wrote Rocky and First Blood as well as all the sequels, but I guess moments like that in The Expendables show he's more than meets the eye, but the real star of that scene is Rourke proving that he's leagues above absolutely everyone else in that movie. He also wrote and directed the sequel to Saturday Night Fever that no one wanted and no one should talk about :v:
ya stallone is a great writer, why doesn't he just give up his efforts in staying built and directing and just start writing original films.. Maybe he needs a writing partner because he can't be this obsessed with action films..
Agreed, he can nail character when he wants to as proven in Rocky, First Blood and probably other moments throughout his writing career I'm sure. I mean that big in The Expendables comes outta nowhere. The rest of the film is pretty shlocky but that's a heartfelt scene that Stallone clearly cared about enough to put it in there despite it being a big contrast to the rest of the movie (but it does work) I'd like to see him do something non-action or at least something a bit more low-key. I reckon there's plenty good stuff in his mind should he just venture a bit more outside what's expected.

First Blood was a book first, Stalone didn't create the character, he adopted it so maybe he is best when he's got something to work with.
glad to hear the thread likes mickey rourke one of my favorites, but never really knew why probably the only reason i liked iron man 2 also, the wrestler was great
Rourke is great Also, does anyone here use a proxy for Netflix? I live in the UK and UK Netflix is poor, so I use Hola Unblocker to access the US one but recently it's been absolutely terrible. It's always been a little dodgy at times which I kinda rolled with since I figure it comes with the territory (?). However now it often doesn't load at all, and I keep getting disconnected to the proxy like every 10 minutes. Like I was watching Blue Ruin right now, got under 10 minutes in and it froze and kicked me out cos the proxy broke, so I had to reconnect and go through it all again which takes ages cos Netflix is data heavy, my internet sucks and my pc is old trash. So it is really not a plausible way to watch movies right now. Does anyone know a better proxy (or something else I dunno) to access US Netflix? much appreciated thank u
Barring Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which Wes Anderson movie must I see next?
fantastic mr puppet show
Barring Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which Wes Anderson movie must I see next?
The Royal Tenenbaums. It is his best imo, one of my favourites ever. But he's got nothing short of great.
Barring Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which Wes Anderson movie must I see next?
pff just watch them all in order. [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] of release
the inbetweeners 2 it was nowhere near as good as the first but it was okay i guess 6/10
pff just watch them all in order. [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] of release
I'm trying to get all of his movies from Criterion, so I have to wait for Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest. I'll probably just go with Royal Tenenbaums.
Barring Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which Wes Anderson movie must I see next?
The Darjeeling Limited, it's easily my favourite of his (and probably my favourite film in general)
First Blood was a book first, Stalone didn't create the character, he adopted it so maybe he is best when he's got something to work with.
this is correct however, first blood was a book and ended after the first book because rambo died in it. the film did have an alternate ending where rambo died, but they used him living for the movie and the rest of the sequels are written solely on the characters of rambo and trautman.
The Prestige - 7/10 I liked the movie's concept and setting a lot, but I feel like [sp]the twist ending was really "woah guys that was so crazy right?" Also we barely saw Fallon throughout the entire movie except for the one part when he got kidnapped and put in the box, and we didn't even get to see him during that part. So when it was revealed that Borden and Fallon were twins, I struggled to even remember who Fallon was.[/sp] But overall I thought it was really fun to watch and learn how magic tricks work, and also exemplified how much of a scumbag Edison was :v:
