TASM2 was possibly the worst summer/superhero movie of the year
I didn't see the film but I saw the fight scene with I think Electro where they played REALLY shitty dubstep as the score and the fight was really bad and cheesy and I pretty much could not believe how horrifcally amateur and terrible it all felt
Doctor Zhivago (1965) 10/10 Watched this classic film years ago on TV but didn't see the whole thing to understand it, until now. Learned about the Bolshevik Revolution in this film, very interesting about how the soviets came to power. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059113/ Life of a Russian doctor/poet who, although married, falls for a political activist's wife and experiences hardships during the Bolshevik Revolution. Lara inspires lechery in Komarovsky (her mother's lover who is a master at surviving whoever runs Russia) and can't compete with passion for the revolution of the man she marries, Pasha. Her true love is Zhivago who also loves his wife. Lara is the one who inspires poetry. The story is narrated by Zhivago's half brother Yevgraf, who has made his career in the Soviet Army. At the beginning of the film he is about to meet a young woman he believes may be the long lost daughter of Lara and Zhivago.
is the place beyond the pines any good
Man, it's like everybody hates that film but I fucking love it. John Hannah is god damn awesome
Who the fuck hates The Mummy?
Anyone seen Hundred Foot Journey yet?
Who the fuck hates The Mummy?
Actually yeah now when I think about it, everyone who I know loves it
are we discussing the brendan fraser remake or the ol' boris karloff mummy?
Just saw Locke. S'aight I guess, ending was a bit anticlimactic but overall pretty relaxing. Although it kind of felt like it could've easily just been a radio play or something Also gave Ocean's Eleven a watch early this morning, I enjoyed it a fair bit. Had a quick google and the general consensus is that the two sequels aren't as good, which is a little disappointing.
Begin Again - 7/10 Pretty enjoyable. The actors are great (especially Ruffalo) and, although the story is a little simple, I was still engaged with it. I'd recommend it if you enjoy music and music-making; there's a fantastic scene early on when Knightley is playing a song on her guitar and Ruffalo imagines and visualizes the entire arrangement for it, building the simple tune into a beautiful melody. Although you can tell they're having fun, rumor has it 12 was more or less an excuse for everyone to hang out for a few weeks.
Man, it's like everybody hates that film but I fucking love it. John Hannah is god damn awesome
Yeah John Hannah is great in this. I love the dude that plays Beni as well. He plays the role of a sneaky backstabbing rat so well. Gonna watch The Mummy Returns sometime this week. [editline]1st September 2014[/editline] The Fourth Kind - 2spooky/4me Getting back into horror/thriller again. This was a pretty interesting one. The scariest thing about this film was probably the face of the actress in the archive footage... Although [sp]that fucking owl and dem creepy alien voices kinda spooked me too[/sp]. Pan's Labyrinth - 7/10 I've been meaning to see this one for the longest time. Didn't expect it to be so gruesome. Loved the music and atmosphere in this film.
i just saw Lucy my friend said it was alright and kept his attention throughout and that he didn't regret paying the ticket price and that he enjoyed it. i, on the other hand, thought it was a crime against humanity. literally the stupidest film i've ever seen and the worst film i've paid to see in the cinema. it was so boring i nearly fell asleep. dont see it. please. for your own good.
The Place Beyond The Pines - pretty good out of ten
Oh boy idk if anyone cares but David Lynch and Kanye West almost did a music video together for West's song Blood On The Leaves off Yeezus which would have been so so so fuckin cool like Lynch is one of the best and West is one of the best imagine these two total characters and great artists who are masters of their craft together. They didn't make it cos they couldn't come up with anything that worked for them both and the music so Kanye had to refuse him (worth noting West actually approached Lynch about it) Feels so Kanye West to do that but like I appreciate that sincerity? (West is so fucking sincere I love it I love his ego I love that he genuinely thinks he's so fucking good and actually has the skills to back it up and doesn't feel the need to bullshit the dude is the fuckin man and a major rolemodel if you think Kanye's attitude is bad then dude look closer) They didn't just make something to make something or to work together. Pretty cool but I'd have loved to see what the end result would have been since they apparently did not want a regular music video (not that West tends to have normal music videos like Stronger is inspired by Akira and All Of The Lights is inspired by Enter The Void and the vid for Black Skinhead is pretty damn weird/different. Best vid of last year tho, not that I follow music videos. And Lynch is far from normal in his craft.)

Donnie Darko – This was probably the 7th or 8th time I've watched this movie, so I'm fairly well-versed in it. It's entertaining from start to finish, with a great performance from Jake Gyllenhaal. The soundtrack really rounds everything out, with that great 80's post-punk and new-wave selection. Even though it's one of my favorite movies of all-time, I don't have much to say about it. That is possibly for the best. I first experienced it knowing nothing at all about it, and I loved it. Go into it with no prior knowledge, and maybe you too will end up watching it 6 more times. Super – Wanted to watch a James Gunn film before going to see GotG so I could get an idea of his style. I was quite pleased with this one. Rainn Wilson was hilarious and was perfectly cast for this role. The story is somewhat similar to Kick-Ass, but Super does it better. The film's ability to have you laughing hysterically one second then emotionally destroyed the next is an interesting characteristic that I haven't really seen before. It's a great movie that everyone should check out. Guardians of the Galaxy – I saw this shortly after it came to theaters. I got all hyped up from what people were saying, I couldn't wait to see it. Then I saw it, and thought, “Eh.” I don't really understand where all the hype was coming from. It was a good movie, sure, but it was amazing. To me it was just another Marvel movie except this time it had space people instead of super people. It fell to the same Marvel tropes that every other Marvel movie falls to. There's a MacGuffin that the main characters have to get, but the bad guys are trying to get it too, and it all concludes in a big CGI explosion-fest. If it wasn't for the character interactions, this movie would have nothing going for it. It could have had anybody directing it, it didn't feel at all like the James Gunn that did Super. Overall, it was a good movie, but don't buy into the hype as you'll be sorely disappointed. Apocalypse Now – I think this was my third time watching this (fourth if you count the time I watched Redux). It just gets better every time. The amount of minor details that you pick up on repeat viewings is insane. The pacing of the whole thing is odd, but I feel that it really adds to the themes that Coppola was trying to push. The film is also beautiful to look at. On Blu-Ray up on a big TV, it's like you're actually on the boat, going down this river. With all the problems that occurred during the making of the film, it's a miracle that it was ever even released. It is the best Vietnam movie hands-down. American Psycho – This was my second time seeing this movie, and it still holds up. Christian Bale plays his part very nicely, and he really gives a feeling of true insanity. The more humorous scenes like the business card scene, Huey Lewis and the News, and Phil Collins work well as bits of comedy as well as advancing the plot and deepening the character of Bateman. Having the murders barely shown at all adds to the experience and makes you incorporate your imagination a bit. Remember that it's always hip to be square, and go out and watch it for yourself. Room 237 – A more appropriate title for this would be “Grasping At Straws And Making Stuff Up: The Movie.” I thought it would be at least a bit interesting, but it was all crap. I can't even imagine how people could possibly get some of these theories out of The Shining. Indian genocide? The Holocaust? Faked moon landings? Where do these people come from? Please, for the sake of your own sanity, do not watch this. I can think of millions of better things to do with your time.
Apocalypse Now: I just finished this a few minutes ago for the first time. Shit, that was pretty good.
speaking of lynch: One thing I like about Lynch is that he's so goddamn straight up with his work ethic and his general attitude. Such a shame the collaboration didn't work out but after Inland Empire what was he supposed to do.. that's the film that drained all he had left in the lynch soup.
My internet was down so I thought I'd watch Drive, as I've heard it's good and remember reading somewhere it inspired Hotline Miami, which I fucking love. The opening was fantastic and the soundtrack is great, but overall, I'm not quite sure what I thought about it. I really loved the concept of the main character being a getaway driver and such, but the film didn't seem to explore it too much. It just seemed to give too much focus on the relationship side when other aspects of the story were way more interesting. 7 or 8 out of 10
Wasn't the trailer for Drive horribly misleading and made a lot of people believe the movie was a fast-paced fast and furious clone
The Expendables 3. Plot: 4/10 Humour: 5/10 The movie in total though was really enjoyable to watch: 8-8.5/10

There were some other factors that fell into my overall opinion.. I just walked out of the cinema thinking: "for what it was, it was brilliant (better than the first 2 imho)".

But to sum up, ratings are pointless ;)
Contagion 3/5 A refreshing change from all the silly zombie movies of this decade, but probably not something anyone is going to find special whenever zombie movies fade out of popularity.
contagion isnt a zombie movie
