Godzilla and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 4/10, combined score. Both were terribly underwhelming and I actually fell asleep watching one and preferred taking my sweet time dropping a log in the shitter rather than watch the ending of the other. Didn't even care about Godzilla's minimal appearance or if it maintained the spirit of the original films--this movie was objective crap. The main character had ridiculous plot armor reminiscent of World War Z, not to mention the acute perceptiveness that only he--and Bryan Cranston's character---possesses because he's so special and everyone else is dumb. The occasional sentimental scenes were also a nice touch, in an awkward and retarded sort of way. They got Cranston, might as well shoehorn in some emotional scenes. The last thing I remember of this masterpiece was the scene where GI Joe coincidentally ends up the only one able to arm the giant dildo capable of penetrating Godzilla's asshole. Overall, I had a pleasant time taking that dump, since it was one of those one-toilet restrooms where I could lock the door and shit in peace. At least in Dawn the terrible plot was somewhat unpredictable until the second half.
Dawn was a beautiful film, give a more detailed analysis instead of 'predictable plot = average movie'
I really liked Dawn, was my favorite summer movie up until Guardians. Godzilla on the other hand was a 7/10 directly after watching it, and has since dropped to like a 5/10 in retrospect.
I was expecting it to be like more like a suspenseful plot around Godzilla and then the MUTOs come in later on.
You're Next: 8/10 Pontypool: 8/10
Her: 9.5/10 Second time I watched it and the movie is very pleasing visually. Great movie that targets your feels.
Pitch Perfect - 8/10 People kept telling me to see it so I finally did. It was funny and I laughed a lot.
Pontypool: 8/10
Pontypool is such a bizarre concept but it does it really well.
Just watched Godzilla (2014) I was actually pretty disappointed. I was pretty annoyed when I heard all the complaints about Godzilla not being in the movie enough, but after watching, I can definitely see what people mean. He was in the original 1954 film for about 15 minutes, but he was in this movie for about...10 minutes maybe? The thing is, in the original, when he wasn't on screen, they were constantly talking about him and building him up. Here, the MUTO gets all the attention, which is fine, it just seems like a normal monster movie with Godzilla just kinda thrown in. 5/10
The amount of issues I took with that film was so ridiculous I don't think I could sit through it a second time [editline]7th September 2014[/editline] it was just a shitty action movie with a terrible terrible script and bad acting. Edwards' direction was ok. the kids almost singlehandedly destroyed an already poor movie too. I saw it in the cinema and was bored consistently. Bored during Godzilla in IMAX 3D. what the fuck
The Lego Movie - 7/10 Better than I expected it to be.
i liked godzilla because im a pleb who enjoys giant monsters fighting each other
I do too, I love it. There just wasn't much of it in the movie since they were too busy focusing on Brody's character that I don't remember a single fucking thing about.
youre right apart from your main point; there was the perfect amount of monster fighting. Any more and it would have gotten old. do you really want man of steel: kaiju edition?
I'm serious, this is one of the worst movies I've seen this year
you must not have seen many movies this year
i liked godzilla because im a pleb who enjoys giant monsters fighting each other
Even if you ignore everything else and measure it by that respect, it's still severely lacking as far as giant monsters fighting go.
the only scene i remember from Godzilla is the HALO jump scene. that was gorgeous.
this is one of the worst movies I've seen this year

The trailer made it seem
That's your mistake. The film was a standard monster film and I couldn't care less if it wasn't the strongest monster film since ClOVERField, which was much worse. [editline]7th September 2014[/editline]
No, but if they had made the human parts of the plot interesting
the human plot was standard too, nothing remotely offensively bad at all. :/
ClOVERField, which was much worse.
i will fite u
Pacific Rim, and even Transformers, do the giant entities battling in a city better than Godzilla--although I didn't finish watching it. I came for the giant monsters fighting same as anyone, but everything else that was shit was so terribly palpable it detracted from the whole movie.

referring strictly to the giants-fighting-in-city, not the films as a whole
here's my issues, they're undisputed. Cloverfield is a hollywood film masquerading as a small film and there's not an ounce of natural character at all. This is irrefutable; it may sound bleh but the entire thing felt like molten plastic. It's a nice document of how a cameraman can avoid steady-shot like the plague and there's a few nice flashing lights. What would enhance this film is if it were a 10 minute film attached to some kind of theme park ride. That is all. And if you want an intimate, close-encounter film, try The Descent.
how are the descent and cloverfield comparable at all other than the subway scene

intimate, close-encounter film
The only reason to watch Cloverfield is for that intimate experience, but there's better.
The only reason to watch Cloverfield is for that intimate experience
the fuck are you even talking about an intimate experience
cloverfield > godzilla > pacific rim > transformers
more like cloverfield > pacific rim > godzilla
more like cloverfield > pacific rim > godzilla
I found the drama far more dull in pacific rim that godzilla. I could barely get through a rewatch of the former but got through the latter just fine.
the fuck are you even talking about an intimate experience
were you watching another film?
Godzilla is a movie you never need to watch, but you DO gotta look up the cool bits on youtube.
I found the drama far more dull in pacific rim that godzilla. I could barely get through a rewatch of the former but got through the latter just fine.
but imo pacific rim's drama was much more bearable because there was barely any. you have plenty of long fight scenes throughout while in godzilla you have to wait a whole hour before you get to see the good stuff
there was barely any
what the fuck theres like an entire hour where nothing happens
The thing is, in Transformers the characters are relatively small (something like 1/10th the size of Pacific Rim's Jaegers) so it's not really a good comparison. Although the city is trashed, all the 'bots are smaller than the buildings.
