Does Harry Potter count? The latter books certainly aren't for children
they're children's novels all the way through man.
Argo (2012) - 9/10 (If anyone knows more films like this, let me know.)
watch Munich much much better
actually I might watch the movie No because of the Scotland thing tomorrow. But I doubt it'll be majority no anyway. R.I.P. UK.
good [editline]17th September 2014[/editline] bye uk :)) but yes No is apparently amazing, not got round to watching it though. I do plan on it. [editline]17th September 2014[/editline] also a whole load of nerds goin on about how Avatar being 120fps is actually a good thing (SH thread about it) as if even 48fps was not a fucking monstrosity smh and most of the logic is cos video games look better at 120 than 60 which looks better than 30 etc. educate yrselves

i feel bad when im the only one who thought machete was crazy great and machete kills was that much better the entire "in space" cinematic was the best imo
I was going to wait until I finished the other two movies, but I didn't get Godzilla 2014 yet and I plan on watching Gojira later tonight to get myself more engrossed in it, so here's my review of Godzilla: Final Wars: This movie was COMPLETELY FUCKING RETARDED!!! Oh my lord I hate this move so goddamn much. It's a fucking Matrix ripoff with monsters inserted in it! Everything's so "action movie-ish" it sickens me. And they decided to put Minilla in, too, and he gets his own subplot that culminates in the most retarded deus-ex-machina I have ever seen. And the sound-track was the most generic "action/rock" music I've ever heard. This movie tries to hearken back to the cheesiness of the Showa era but not only does the intentional cheesiness not work, but when combined with the matrix-wannabe tone of the movie it just fails completely. Dear lord I loathe this movie with the fury of 1000 gods. I'm so glad that this movie didn't turn out to be the very last movie in the Godzilla franchise. Still, Don Frye's character's pretty badass, so it's not ALL bad. Still fucking retarded, though.
I feel like watching a movie at 120 FPS would make me vomit all over.
A lot of the defense seems to be that video games are a better experience at higher framerates lmao so they clearly don't know shit (also 48fps apologists I mean I think it is total shit but its subjective I guess but still 120fps is stupid and ridiculous). VG's are better at higher framerates because of input lag. higher fps=less input lag. Not to mention that VG's need a higher framerate than 24 because of motion blur (cinema needs no more than 24 because of motion blur, vg's need at least 60 to be smooth due to their lack thereof. also never believe a game that has motion blur, it's fake, always turn it off if you have the option cos it looks shit). Impact lag is no issue with films since they're passive, unlike games which are obviously interactive so you control what happens on screen directly. I mention that cos i feel like it's something everyone's forgetting in the argument of framerate and comparing cinema to video games. It's a big deal in VG's and is an important part of the argument for increasing framerate beyond 30 (the disappointing standard for consoles- it should be 60, 30fps looks and plays like shit) is input lag for a better, more responsive gaming experience. Films do not need more because they look great at 24fps. There is no reason to go above. It's a gimmick that results in a lesser experience. Both of his fights were pretty much "look how badass I a-*gets blown up*".

But theese type of films are rare so what can I say. I enjoyed it just as much as I did Moon, Prometheus or Cloud Atlas, to name a few recent ones. Next one on the watchlist is probably Europa Report. Anyone else have other films to recommend? Including old SF's like Stalker 1979, Solaris, 2001, Alien,THX 1138, Dark city and such. [editline]17th September 2014[/editline] Oh, and is The signal(2014) any good?
Blade Runner, The Matrix and Aliens should be added.
speaking of the matrix, ive been rewatching them last couple of days and i also saw the animatrix for the first time The Matrix: 10/10 The Matrix Reloaded: 10/10 The Matrix Revolutions: 10/10 Probably gonna be wrong, but even after seeing the trilogy numerous times, they really are that good. Wish I could rewatch them all with fresh eyes. The Animatrix (gonna break this one up) Final Flight of the Osiris: 9/10 (this makes reloaded and revolutions a whole lot more understandable) The Second Renaissance: 10/10 (I never knew the backstory and thought the [sp]"real world"[/sp] was [sp]in some weird space dimension[/sp], however dumb that seems.) Kid's Story: 8/10 (always wanted to know the story for the kid after I saw reloaded. wish it made more sense because I still can't wrap my head around how he [sp]woke himself up via suicide[/sp] Program: 9/10 (really love the artstyle) World Record: 7/10 Beyond: 9/10 A Detective Story: 9/10 (love the style) Matriculated: 6/10
The first Matrix was the only great one in my opinion. Second one was entertaining, but not much else and the third one makes me want to completely forget that the movie had any sequels.
i don't know, i just liked the whole development found in #2 and #3 also, the big fight in #3 was outstanding mechs are cool too
My previous post should of warned you, when I meant it was my least Godzilla movie, I MEANT IT
I know, but I was committed. I mean, that's why I included "Godzilla's Revenge" and the '98 remake to the watchlist. Still, I'm going to rewatch Gojira tonight to make all the bad feelings go away. My review of that should come sometime tomorrow.
I still don't understand the hate for The Matrix 2 and 3. Sure they weren't as good as the first, but they were by no means bad films.
The first Matrix was the only great one in my opinion. Second one was entertaining, but not much else and the third one makes me want to completely forget that the movie had any sequels.
1: Best story 2: Best action 3: Kill myself
I've never seen the matrix sequels. I heard they sucked dick so I never bothered.
you're not missing anything
am i the only one who liked the world development [editline]17th September 2014[/editline] the depth that #2 and #3 added to the world was really great or maybe thats just me
I thought they took the wrong direction after the first movie and went batshit with the whole concept. It was interesting while it remained simple.
Reloaded was decent But Revolutions had way too much boring Zion vs machines stuff, and nowhere near enough Matrix kung fu
speaking of the matrix, ive been rewatching them last couple of days and i also saw the animatrix for the first time The Matrix: 10/10 The Matrix Reloaded: 10/10 The Matrix Revolutions: 10/10 Probably gonna be wrong, but even after seeing the trilogy numerous times, they really are that good. Oceans Eleven (2001): 8/10 Not the best movie ever, but a fucking fantastic heist movie. I wish they had made it just the heist, and that we got more heist. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it, it's super fun. The Killing (1956): 7/10 Another heist movie! One of the most pure crime movies ever. Like, this and Resevoir Dogs take the cake for being almost entirely about crime. But I don't know what it was... but something about this movie just didn't stick with me, it was still good, and it had some fucking fantastic shots that made the whole movie worth it, but I just wasnt a big fan.
Robocop (1987) - 10/10 Excellent movie. I really appreciated it much more this time around (second viewing). Weller does a fantastic job adding pathos to the main character, and the way this cynical world is established through dialogue, ads, and news is fantastic. Now I want to rewatch Total Recall.
Robert Duvall's The Apostle This is gosh Jesus darn fantastic. Now you may not be incited Jesus to see a Jesus movie concerning a religist Jesus man but this movie is so goddamn arresting due to the almighty ROB DUVALL. This is by a long mile, a role of a lifetime that for the duration of 2 hours never hinders in energy and Jesus feeling. Mr Duvall was nominated by the Jesus academy but lost to Jack Nicholson... in As Good As It Gets... which is pathetic because as far as Jack Nicholson performances are it's as average as it gets. hehr duvall though, with a character so full of life and whom is really actually quite insane at the end of it all, delivers a journey with meaning and more Jesus unique as compared with other religist mindset Jesus kind of films. The thing is, there's a lot of Jesus in this film. And if you can't Jesus it all out, Jesus will Jesus. [editline]18th September 2014[/editline] I had a certain level of expectation too, and it totally destroyed my brain.. the level of Duvall's commitment goddamn, he outdoes Mr Lincoln aka Daniel Day Lewis.
I thought they took the wrong direction after the first movie and went batshit with the whole concept. It was interesting while it remained simple.
Well they kinda shot themselves in the foot ending The Matrix with Neo practically being some sort of demi-god. How do you continue after that. (It also kinda shows how Reloaded and Revolutions were nothing but an afterthought)
