Well they kinda shot themselves in the foot ending The Matrix with Neo practically being some sort of demi-god. How do you continue after that. (It also kinda shows how Reloaded and Revolutions were nothing but an afterthought)
Matrix's ending implied that Neo basically became some God or some Buddhist/Zen "enlightened" thing. The sequels basically turned him into some comic book superhero with defined superpowers like flying, increased strength and speed and bullet stoppage who still needs to enter wire-fu action scenes. With better writers, I think they would have worked around the "What can we do with Neo now" problem but the Wachowskis aren't even all that good imo. They just went for the cheapest and easiest option by dumbing Neo and his story down into a superhero messiah journey.
Edge of Tomorrow 8/10 Not a very strong ending imho, but still a solid and extremely fun action flick. Surely one of the best of the year so far.
Edge of Tomorrow 8/10 Not a very strong ending imho, but still a solid and extremely fun action flick. Surely one of the best of the year so far.
Honestly, the ending would've been better if [sp]both of them got that goop on them, and they both remembered what happened. Because I get that they need a happy ending, but it feels a little weird considering she has no idea what happened[/sp]
Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2 0/10 Absolutely appalling that there would be this much violence in a film, almost vomited on multiple occasions would not recommend. This new kid, quantum buyafigo or whatever really needs to work on the quality of his films before he releases another any time soon. Jokes aside this is probably another 8.5/10. Tarantino just has this way with film, they're so distinct you could probably sit me down in a 5 minute short film of his and I'd still recognize his work. These were all just over-the-top, story, character, everything and it was awesome throughout. Can't say which one of the two I prefer, though if you had to press me I'd probably say the first. Get them both together though and watch in one sitting, you don't want to be left waiting for vol. 2 after you watched vol. 1.
oh god I started reading your review and seeing red well played
still waiting for the whole bloody affair...
I was getting my torches ready when i read that post.
Gojira: I'm not going to be some pretentious twat and claim that this is one of the greatest Japanese movies of all time, mostly because the only Japanese movies I've ever seen were monster movies. I've never seen anything by Kurosawa or those critically acclaimed animated movies like Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. But I will say that this movie is an excellent horror movie, and not one of those schlocky horror movies like every other "giant radioactive monster" movie that came out at that time. It was a genuinely horrifying and depressing movie about the horrors of nuclear warfare and the cost of scientific progress. It was an emotional experience to me. That said, the special effects did have a few bad spots. Pretty much every shot that closed up to Gojira's head used a hand-puppet, and the contrast between it and the Gojira suit was glaringly obvious, it really takes you out of the moment when they use those shots. There's a lot about the human subplot that had me confused, like whether Emiko Yamane's father knew that she was having an affair with Ogata even though she was betrothed to Dr. Serizawa, because it seemed like Ogata visited them and hung out with her pretty often in the movie. I mean, if their relationship is such a secret you'd think they wouldn't hang out that much. Then again, maybe their hanging out so much is what caused them to fall in love in the first place. That's just one example but there's a couple of other confusing bits that may have you scratching your head when you notice them. Maybe it has something to do with the subtitles, I was watching the Classic Media release while the Criterion Collection release has different translations for some of the lines. I may decide to rewatch the Criterion version to spot all the differences and see if their different translations of certain lines will help clarify anything. All in all, though, if you're a Japanese cinema buff I'd recommend giving Gojira a try. I've seen people put it up with the likes of Seven Samurai and while I believe that those people may just be exaggerating Gojira's quality just a bit, I must admit again that I've never seen that movie so I really don't know for sure. I just got Godzilla 2014 so I'm going to be spending the rest of the day digesting all of the special features before watching the movie itself tonight. I'll give a review tomorrow and decide once and for all where it truly ranks among the rest of the Godzilla franchise, now that these other movies are fresh in my head and I can better give such a comparison.
you really should look into japanese cinema, it's quite fantastic, even though it sounds cheesy as shit at times.
Watched this a while ago, at school so I was forced to don't hit me, but here goes: Jack and Jill (2011) Jack and Jill released to thrill, To fun, excitement, laughter. Sack that and frown, I lied till now It's shit 0/10 though its still somehow better than lucy
i cared more about the xmen who got brutally murdered by sentinels than jean
oh its just they built it up to be a big thing so i thought i was supposed to care
Huh. Apparently my mother wanted to watch Godzilla 2014 with me. And we ended up roping dad into it, too. The first time in years that I ever sat down to watch a movie with my family (except my bro, he went out for the night). So, anyways: Godzilla 2014: First I'll just go over the movie itself. My opinion on it is the same as it was when I saw it back in May: flawed but still pretty awesome. The movie is a pretty big cocktease when it comes to monster fights, and watching the special features and reading the companion art book ("The Art Of Destruction"), it seems like it was entirely intentional on Gareth Edwards' part. He LOVED the idea of teasing the viewers until the third act which he believed would be an epic payoff. I guess it's up to the individual viewer to decide whether or not he succeeded, but in my opinion he pulled it off pretty well. Not flawlessly but close enough to keep the movie entertaining. Like I said before, I LIKED the human focus, it made the movie more than just another monster movie, just another Godzilla movie. Yeah, Aaron Taylor Johnson was HEAVILY overshadowed by Bryan Cranston's brief yet significant role, but I don't think he's a bad actor, I don't think he did a bad job in his role. I don't get the hate for the child actors, though. The kid who played the Brody's son didn't really have much to do, didn't really do much to earn the ire of anyone. I think the people who hated him were probably the type of people who would hate any child actor simply because they don't like kids in their movie. Or in general. I will tell you that this kid was a hell of a lot more tolerable than the schoolboys in short-shorts I mentioned back in the Showa era of the Japanese series. And of course, there's the big issue: Godzilla's screentime. I do agree that he could have used a little more of that (it would have been awesome if we actually got to see some of that battle in Hawaii, for instance), and he could have used a little more buildup to his initial appearance instead of just coming in as if he was waiting off-stage for his cue. But all was forgiven during the final half-hour of the movie where he got his chance to kick ass and take names. It's not an objectively awful movie. It's not an action-packed thrill ride like Pacific Rim was (like a lot of people were hoping it would be), but it wasn't trying to be that kind of movie. So, the moment I've been trying to figure out when I started this whole "watch every Godzilla movie" thing: How does it stack up to the rest of the Godzilla franchise? In my opinion, backed with a mind fresh and full of Godzilla goodness, I think it ranks pretty high in the list of Good Godzilla Movies. They say it tries to hearken back to the tone of the 1954 original, but I don't think it really does. Gojira was a dark, brooding horror movie full of death, sacrifice, and heart-wrenching characterization, in which Godzilla is the living personification of the horrors of the atomic bomb. Godzilla 2014 is really more in line with the late Hesei-era and early-Millennium-era movies, which had a more light-hearted feel without being campy, in which Godzilla was really more of a force of nature that made humanity's life difficult but could still occasionally be seen as the earth's savior without being outright called that. There's no "moral" to the tale, no real cautionary warning about the dangers of mankind's arrogance as in the original movie, although Ken Watanabe's character tries to shoehorn one in with some of his speeches (to no avail, IMO). Instead we have some monsters threatening humanity, and Godzilla to come in to defend his territory while at the same time saving humanity from these monsters. In the end one comes out with a feeling of relief that Godzilla is kinda on our side rather than a feeling of terror from the fact that Godzilla is still at large. So what I'm trying to say is: I love Godzilla 2014. I love Godzilla, period. That love may have tainted my views so that I see the 2014 movie in a more positive light, glossing over what others who are more neutral to Godzilla may consider serious flaws in the movie, but I'm not ashamed of that nor am I ashamed to admit that I love this movie. It's a worthy addition to the franchise and I look forward to seeing what else Gareth will do with the franchise, even though I'll have to wait until 2018 to see any clue of it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I think I'm going to watch Godzilla 2014 again tomorrow night. Just 'cuz.
finally a review of that movie that isnt just "not enough action 0/10"
literally no one dislikes that movie soley for its lack of action. it's just terrible
finally a review of that movie that isnt just "not enough action 0/10"
The action in that movie was phenomenal, the problem for me was that the lead was... very boring. Aaron Taylor-Johnson... I don't know what it is, because he was great in kickass, wasn't very good in this. Of course, it didn't help that his whole storyline was incredibly boring and ultimately pretty inconsequential. The movie would've been FAR better if it had been Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe figuring out both creatures and trying to find a way to resolve the crisis, and ultimately it was those two that guide the Godzilla and the MUTOs to each other, and pit them against each other for the final battle. THAT would've been a good plot.
Blue Ruin 7.5/10 Was pretty chill. Was in the same vain as No Country For Old Men and Cold In July.
Godzilla 4/5 Pretty much insert what Xenomoose said and you have my review. [editline]19th September 2014[/editline] No really, he knocked it out of the park.
godzilla 14 is the worst piece of shit I've ever seen and I don't understand how anyone can like it but opinions
Just saw Tusk. 8.5/10. One of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. It was kind of fucked up. It was kind of funny. You would definitely get more out of it if you like the director, Kevin Smith, and listen to his various podcasts and understand the in-jokes that he put in for the fans. That said, it has enough to keep you entertained if you are not a fan. If I weren't a fan it would still be a solid 7/10.
Dude tell me more, I'm waiting to see the movie so much! Was it graphic, or did they leave it for your imagination?
Nothing was left to the imagination. You can see everything in its full glory. It gets a bit gory here and there. There was less gore I thought there would be, but that doesn't hold it back. It can be a pretty disturbing. Every part of the movie other than the horror scenes are just strange but still mostly in tune with the movie. It is kind of psychological thriller until and a bit after the initial reveal, at which time it gets a bit more strange than it was previously. Michael Parks is terrific in the movie as expected. There is a short scene after the credits that is not really important but got a few laughs at my theater. Other than that, it is almost exactly like it was originally "pitched" in the SModcast podcast #259, which if you haven't listened to it yet, you should definitely listen to it after you see the movie.
That whole romance arc in the trilogy was so unbelievably boring that I ended liking her better that shes haunting his mind
It's even creepier when you realize Logan and Jean were never in a relationship in the trilogy. Hell, they never even got to fuck at any point, the one time Wolverine had an occasion he turned it down - yet they absolutely want to push these scenes where he constantly hallucinates about Jean. Good thing [sp]that entire shitshow of a romance arc was retconned[/sp]
maybe they had psychic sex
The Bourne Identity (2002) - 7/10 - Bit split on this. I do legitimately like the movie, but I couldn't get into it for some reason. I'll watch Ultimatum tonight, though. Iron Man 3 (2013) - 6/10 X-Men: First Class (2011) - 7/10 - Felt like a kids movie? Comparing it to something like Iron Man 2 or Captain America: The First Avenger that came out around the same time it felt about 5x more lighthearted than those. Still good, though.

[t]http://content6.flixster.com/movie/11/17/88/11178804_800.jpg[/t] I have been waiting to see this movie for months. From listening to the single that was released, "I Love You All" when the movie hit overseas, I could not help myself from getting excited that a movie with an experimental band and a dude with a big paper head as the frontman was coming out. It was all the makings of a movie that could be considered perfect for me. Personal to my feelings as a musician and as someone suffering from depression, this movie is a sort of special kind of movie that nothing else could recreate. Not only heart-warming, is this movie, but it is a smartly written, immaculately directed and incredible film. There was something here that modern film is missing. There is a heart here, you should take something from this movie. I should probably explain what it's about, even though that would take away from some of the movie. Actually in fact i'll just give a brief overview. Michael Fassbender plays the titular character Frank, a front-man for a weird indie band. Domhall Gleeson plays Jon, a keyboardist who is also an aspiring song-writer who wants to be in a band. His luck comes and he is invited to Frank's band. Stuff happens, they become friends, then more stuff that I can't talk about without spoiling it happens. There is some comedy in here, but labeling it a comedy wouldn't do it justice. It's a Dark Comedy in the vein of something like World's Greatest Dad. The performances in this film are out of this fucking world. They are so good. Understated would be a great fit to describe it. Everyone in the film acts as if they were real people, they all have reasons and feelings and it comes to a halt eventually. Fassbender even sings really well, it was his voice that in my opinion gave everything life in this film. The music is really good, I want to buy the full soundtrack whenever I can. The directing is top notch. It reminded me of Bobcat Goldthwait mixed with Edgar Wright to an extent. Some fun transition scenes, purposeful, vivid and colorful imagery in a dark film. Ominous lighting mixed with the mystery of the character Frank worked so well. I haven't seen something this imaginative in a while. Bravo to Lenny Abrahamson, i'm looking forward to his other film projects and will definitely check out some of his other stuff. Frank struck me as a movie that general audiences would not like from the trailer, but seeing the film, I think this could have been a big hit. It works both as a comedy and a drama, but the entire film is done so tasteful and not purposely "arty". The ending is one of the best endings in cinema history. I would honestly put it up there with the likes of something like Pulp Fiction or The Godfather in terms of "holy fucking shit that was incredible". It was really that good. I cried from how good it was, it was powerful. I could not even fathom what I was seeing and how much it meant to me. Fassbender is a fucking jewel, we need to treasure this man until he dies one day. Put this man up there with the big dogs, he's the real deal. I give Frank a 10/10, please go watch it. It affected me emotionally in ways no other film has. I want everyone who can see it, to go see it.
