The Invention of Lying - 7.5/10 This was pretty good. Better than I expected what with the IMDB and Metacritic ratings.
Just watched The Raid, and the Raid 2 and absolutely loved them both 10/10 . Does anyone know any other movies similar to these with the intense brutal fighting scenes like these movies had?
Seven - 7/10 (no I'm not doing that on purpose, I didn't even realize this until I typed it) Am I the only one who found the ending really predictable? Maybe it was because I always heard about how shocking the ending was, and I was more analytic about it, but it seemed rather obvious. [sp]First off, it should be apparent that there wouldn't be two bodies already there at the scene, Spacey's character was too clever for that. So either two of the three of the ones present (Freeman, Pitt, Spacey) were going to die, or someone (or two people) else would come into the scene and die. Still, at this point, I was pretty interested in what Spacey had in store, especially after hyping it up in the car ride for like 5 minutes. But as soon as the van came into view, I knew a body (or a body part heh) would be rolled in. And when it was Freeman who walked over and Spacey said "here he goes" it was really obvious it was Tracey. Paltrow was portrayed as an innocent and pregnant woman the entire movie who seemingly didn't have a role in the storyline, so it fit in perfectly. And then everything else fell into place afterwards.[/sp] Regardless, this was a good movie. The grimy, rainy city was a perfect setting, the murders were creative and disturbing (especially the sloth victim, jesus), and the trio of the main characters acted really well, except for Pitt's sort of hammy acting at the end [sp]"WHAT'S IN THE BAAAAAWKS"[/sp] And despite the religious correlation in the movie, I don't really think the movie was as deep as people say it is.
The ending is one of my gripes with it too. I heard that in one of script variants [sp]Instead of Pitt, Freeman's character shot Spacey to break his vision of the ending, and that would've worked better and more shocking imo. The experienced cop taking the fall and all.[/sp] [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
Just watched The Raid, and the Raid 2 and absolutely loved them both 10/10 . Collateral caw this is a noice bit of business from the mann. Anyway, good Cruise, good Foxx and surprisingly good photography considering the aura of shite surrounding digital high def and by that I mean some of them look straight out of a TV show. I loved the way this film flows, it's a very nice movie to watch at night. It's Taxi Driving goodness and it's not too loud. Mr Cruise is an aged assassin and he cruised, on a highway. In terms of what the movie deals with, how people fall into their own shit and relapse or whatever, I was kind of reminded of that Ben Affleck/Sam Jackson movie Changing Lanes. But only in a tiny spiritual sense because this was far more gangster oriented and Mr Foxx VERY BRIEFLY turned into Django which was nice. I also feel very late on seeing this film but who cares, good film good vibes. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] this may actually be Foxx's best performance btw so shame to miss that out.
Prisoners: 9/10 MAN this movie made me feel like shit. It also solidified for me that if The Last Of Us movie were to happen, Hugh Jackman wouldn't be a bad Joel.
Trans4mers - (2014) Okay, usually I can watch these movies. Yes they're pretty bad movies as a whole, but if you switch your mind off for 2-3 hours it can be fun at times. But this, this was beyond any of the others. The acting (Wahlberg was okay, Stanley Tucci was also alright although compared to the others it was like watching marlon brando) seriously grated on me, and wasn't even a funny sort of bad, just outright bad. The characters - specifically that bloody irish thing that i refuse to call a character - were mostly unlikable twats on top of being badly written. The plot was also a jumble of action and the series wide "everyones against the autobots except for like 3 people" we've come to know and love. It also didn't seem to advance the story - at least what is actually left of it - at fucking all. I don't know if this one was me but somehow the CGI, the centerpiece of the whole fucking franchise basically, also seems to have gotten worse. And finally, my worst gripe (any sequel/s though transformers has done it so often), would be that they act as though the last movie never even fucking happened. Not only are the effects of the previous movies left out of the movie itself, but they're hardly even MENTIONED besides the occasional nod to "yeah robots done fucked up our shit" and the "ZOMG robots we gotta protect ourself make more weapons that'll work right" thats happened in the past 1-2 sequels. 1.5 Lucy's/10
so is bumblebee in transformers 4? If so did they explain why he's not with shia leboeuf any more? Did he sell his robot car?
He is, but from what i can remember they didn't offer jack shit of an explanation for why he left Sam Redsticky, Probably just expected people to up and forget about the past 3 movies. All things considered, not a bad strategy - wouldn't say they're the most memorable movies out there.
Okay guys my friends want to watch If I stay, its that sad love story movie featuring chloe grace moretz Do I go yes no And my other friends are all saying its good and stuff.
so is bumblebee in transformers 4? If so did they explain why he's not with shia leboeuf any more? Did he sell his robot car?
no, the transformers go into hiding because "plot."

tonight's double feature: 9/10, this may be the only anti-war film we will ever really need. also neat to see early kubrick flicks. 7/10 until that ending twist
Antiviral 5/10 It was shot very well. It was gross and twisted enough to hold my attention, but right now I'm having trouble thinking of further praise for it. However it had problems with pacing. There were stretches of the main character just sort of drifting form place to place, permeated with a few minutes of him taking action, then more drifting. It was jarring to move from active to not-so-active like that. And the entire movie was just so cold. I feel like the movie needed to be cold but if it took itself just a tad less seriously it would've been better. Or, more specifically, if there was any humanity at all in the main character. If there was ever a moment where he acted normal then I'd be affected more by the events of the film. I didn't feel too attached to him throughout because he always acted like a cold, angry lizard creature.
Edge of Tomorrow, been meaning to get this for quite a while. 9/10 to the concept behind the movie, the guy becoming an unstoppable machine with time was awesome. And man those fucking suits, really nice. 7/10 for the ending, it was going at just the right way for the whole mood of the movie and then BAM. Happy motherfucking ending.
recommend me some movies set in isolated picturesque locations
gone girl was really excellent. you should all go see gone girl? silent hill 2 vibes

it's David Fincher m8, that fucker's gonna be seen for sure. thing is... PT Anderson is out with a new movie soon, so is Ridley Scott and also Alejandro González Iñárritu. people were saying it was a lackluster year, but those people will be shocked by the good stuff yet to come :] [editline]1st October 2014[/editline] also Nolan... goddamn this end of the year bonanza is good stuff.
I have to wait until Friday for Gone Girl. The wait is unbearable.
I'm seeing it tomorrow, if I get in line fast enough
Robocop 3 0/10 Do not watch
still better than the remake
8 Mile strong 7 / 10 sex scene went on forever
Three Colours: Blue (Dir. Krzysztof Kieslowski, 1993) Had the trilogy's boxset sitting in my dvd rack for at least a month, kind of forgot about it. Just remembered it last night and stuck this on. Wonderul film about a woman attempting to begin her life again after losing her family in a car crash. She attempts to build a life with nothing in it, cut off from her past and others, but learns that it is not in human nature. She's haunted by the music of her husband, considered one of the most acclaimed and important contemporary composers (the soundtrack is absolutely wonderful), as it works as a symbol for humanity's nature to live as a pack, in harmony (a theme throughout the film, that humanity's link to music and vice versa is inherent and in both things' natures, they function as a unit, together, a harmony. Eg a person cannot truly live in a vacuum as music cannot exist as one single note. It's lovely and addressed very subtly and appropriately, even if it may sound a little cheesy here)as well as a tie to her past, as her husband's last piece of left incomplete, which leads to a need to see it completed. A great film, a truly great character piece and a great project for lead actor Juliette Binoche, who gives a fantastically raw performance here). The soundtrack is, as expected given the content. It may have the best pairing of music and visuals in any film. To paraphrase Tarantino, the most cinematic thing is the perfect compination of visuals and music. I agree wholeheartedly. This film is a masterclass in it. It uses its visuals and the score together to tell a story about itself, about how beautiful music and cinema are. Also about how they're human elements. Just amazing stuff. The cinematography is absolutely incredible, some shots are just so so so good (eg the slightly surreal moment of total blue as she sits alone in the chair, the camera whipping to her, the sugar cube (god that shot is literally one of my new favourites ever), the sudden moments of white/red which I imagine tie into the themes in the other two films, White and Red. Really looking forward to sitting down and watching the other two films. A strong 8.5/10 Also, going to see 20,000 Days On Earth later tonight- Can't wait for that either, I love Nick Cave and it seems interesting whether I knew him or not.
I'm seeing it tomorrow, if I get in line fast enough
you can't book tickets?
definitely going to look back into Kielowski's filmograghy as well, I'm aware his 10-part TV series is considered one of the best of all time. [editline]1st October 2014[/editline] boy damn u scot
White and Red
Red is best for me, but very close to Blue. White is weaker but still good.
So I've heard. Nice to know that I've not even been in for the supposed best. Btw I just watched this rather poignant short Doco he did in 1980, a 15 minute film. He asks people of all ages who they are and what they want. Simple but very good and sobering. Definitely worth a watch.
