Django Unchained - 9/10 - Fucking fantastic movie. I was having fun all the way through. Obviously, it is very niche because it is for Tarantino's usual audience, but I am one of his audience so I loved it. I would not say it is technically a "good" movie, but it is enjoyable as hell and deserves all the praise. If your into Tarantino's usual shtick, then you will love this film.
This is the End - 8.5/10 - Once again, fantastic movie. The premise was genius and the film is one of the funniest I have seen in my life. Granted, some things could have been done better, like [sp]that fucking ending[/sp] but all in all it was great and I know Facepunch will love it. Sure to be a cult-classic at least, and currently the best movie I have seen released in 2013.
i saw the bling ring
i liked the sofia copolla movies i had seen beforehand so it was unfortunately that i did not like this one. it was just uninteresting and the awful characters make it hard to watch, and they tried to make it sort of sympathetic toward the dude, even though he never even once did the right thing and it didn't work. you can say it's an examination on the obsession of celebrity culture, but i say it's a movie about vapid shitheads that steal stuff because at the end of the day, that is what you are watching. i feel like it will appeal to people for the wrong reasons, and even for the right reasons it's just not interesting enough.
sofia should make violent movies. i think she would be good at that. a bit refn'y.
but when a movie is about a bad person who is depicted as bad but at the same time glorified, they also have to be interesting. these people were not, they were just really stupid. and the movie did not focus enough on their fall - in fact they barely had one. they just suddenly got caught, there were a few raid scenes and a scene of the guy going to jail looking all remorseful (a bit late for that buddy). so i feel like it was attempting to say 'these people are bad and dumb' but it didn't do it well at all and it just comes off like a movie about their exploits rather than getting what's coming to them, you know? there was just nothing about their characters to be sympathetic about, they should not have a movie about them
not very good /10
(uninteresting + wanted to strangle all the characters)

also i went to a sundance cinema because i am in the us at the moment and i give it 8 stars it's not as cheap as other cinemas in the us but it is a really nice venue it is like a better version of the nova (a melbourne cinema directed more toward the arthouse)
This Is The End - 5/10
I mainly enjoyed it because it was a mindless funny movie to go see with friends. Other than that, it sucked.

You liked Somewhere? Didn't think you'd like that kind of film.
I really hope she doesn't lose it for this film... each of her films for me are beautiful, haven't seen that Kirsten Dunst one yet but she's really a director whose in control of her films, just like her dad :-)

Drive (2011) - 9/10
I'm ashamed that I didn't watch this when it hit theaters. Seriously one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Great acting, great cast, great soundtrack, expected a bit more out of the ending though, but overall definitely worth a watch if you love crime/action/drama movies.
This is the End: 6/10
A good, stupid hangout movie. The CG is painfully obvious, but it's obviously not what makes the film work. Danny McBride makes an okay, if not predictable antagonist. The humour is more in-your-face then I tend to enjoy. Craig Robertson is pretty good, and they all seem like good sports when they make fun of themselves. I wouldn't recommend it as a serious film, but if you want to get drunk with your pals and laugh at stupid shit, this is a film for you.

The Purge: 3/10
Just fucking trust Rusty on this one. This will honestly be the only time I say that.
The character's are just so bad. It basically plays on "Oh man, look how bad these characters are, look, the neighbours are bad, to!!!!11!1!!"
And it's trying to show some stupid fucking political point that is unable to decipher throughout the entire film.
Just avoid this film like the fucking plague.
I saw The Purge on uk release day and it was literally the worst thing ever. it actually made me legitimately angry how shit it was. I asked my friend if we could leave but he at least wanted to see it end (this was when ethan hawke died) I just wasnt up for sitting through another 30 minutes of watching the shitty family try to live with these shitty villians. But luckily (I guess) the neighbours appeared and made the movie a good 20 minutes shorter which made me happy because thenI could leave (even though that was actually the worst part of the film)
terrible terrible terrible.
[editline]23rd June 2013[/editline]
its also made over $60m on a $3m budget which means either it could get a seqwuel or the writer/director/whatever could get more hollywood work NO
I watched something called "Age of Heroes" (2011) and oh my god it was the worst WWII movie I've ever seen. Its supposed to be about a Commando unit going on a raid in Norway.
The acting was pretty terrible save for Sean Bean and whoever plays obligatory-ginger-smallclothes-scottish-bloke. The main character, some sappy idiot with zero character development starts out as a wimp and ends the movie as a wimp, despite going through rigorous 15 minute Commando training. You never see him kill anyone, despite how it is suggested he's more than ready to.
The only time he even fires a shot is in the last stand off firefight where he fails to hit 10 people tightly clustered around a captured comrade from just a couple of yards away with a burst of automatic fire.
Oh, and despite the fact he starts the movie as a bog standard conscript he knows how to parachute safely out of a plane while it is being ripped to pieces by cannon fire. He's not even shown jumping out of the plane, hes just shown having a cliche PTSD freeze after one guy dies in front of him, the plane is shown being ripped with explosions, and next thing you know he wakes up on the ground. Its not even suggested they had parachute training.
The action-y bits are abysmal and cliched as fuck. In the last firefight one of their comrades is captured and is being tortured, like I said they open fire and kill noone, then later there's a repeat of the same situation, and badass Sean Bean kills his comrade with a single shot, then orders his men to throw grenades after the Nazis have scattered.
What, the fuck. Oh, and then Sean and obligatory scottish bloke are shown fighting and shit, and then they're never seen again. They're just fighting and the screen changes to Wimpy pants. Wimpy pants sees his buddy get shot as they're running away, stops to help, and then the german that shot his buddy just runs headlong at him without even bracing his weapon. Wimpy puts a knife to his own throat, but the other Commandos save him, they walk off into the distance and thats it.
I'd give it a 3/10.

You recommended Oz and I'm still not enjoying it and it's been 6 months.

Oz is one of the most terrible movies I've watched this year. It was like a ripoff of Alice in Wonderland alas with a more terrible cast (especially Mila Kunis as the Witch)
There was a movie called Oz released this year?
been meaning to watch Oz (the tv series) for ages... thanks all for reminding me. :)
i use rutsy as my guide to good moviess
Watch Se7en and subsequently Zodiac, Se7en didn't really draw me in and although I saw a couple key things coming, especially the ending [sp]the wife character literally had no other purpose as far as script writing goes besides to add an emotional element.[/sp] but it was still enjoyable.
Zodiac owned however, the scene where he was in the movie dude's house had me on edge. All together I suppose I liked it more simply because of the setting/killer and Jake's character drew me in more than Brad Pitt's. Both good but I preferred Zodiac.
The Matrix - 7/10
brilliant plot and premise, Keanu ruins this film though. Such a wooden actor.
I tried watching Reloaded but I turned it off half way through

I like to pretend that his character is just so blown away by all those revelations that he finds it hard to express all the emotions he's feeling

I just pretend he's Keanu Reeves.

I'm pretty sure no one liked Oz the Great and Powerful. Rusty likes Oz the prison drama with a shit load of dick.
Once Upon A Time in the West - 8.5/10
I was really confused who Henry Fonda was, I thought he was Harmonica but then I read the cast and he was the villain. But although the film isn't as good as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (I meant to give that film a 10/10). The Italian guy from On Her Majesty's Secret Service was in the movie, he was very good (his death scene was very sad). Henry Fonda was too much of a dick in the movie, and I don't mind Charles Bronson as Harmonica, but the role seemed more suited for Clint Eastwood. I felt the bandit Cheyenne was only in the movie for comic relief (though he was sort of important in the story).
Also note, I couldn't finish the film but I stopped it after the [sp]The disabled guy's death scene[/sp]. This is my rating before I finish the movie. Otherwise, the film was a great western but I didn't really see the 'masterpiece' in it. Another great Sergio Leone film though.
Edited
Finished the movie, even though the ending was really good. My opinion still stands

why the fuck would anyone think i liked that movie i mean come on please be reasonable
Now You See Me
0/10
I honestly can't think of anything that was good in this movie. It had such a great concept that would have been amazing if it was done correctly but instead it felt like a Disney movie with swearing, because that makes it super serious right? And the plot was just the dumbest thing ever conceived. The movie focused so little on the four magician characters that I really didn't end up caring about them, in fact I hoped they would get caught.
So I just watched World War Z, I read the book and had pretty low expectations for the movie.
I was pleasantly surprised and overall I loved it. I mean yeah, it definitely had its flaws. (We were all cracking up at the zombie clicking his teeth at the end.)
I think it's a solid 8.
Also that female Israeli soldier was pretty cute.

You're saying this film is only two points off perfect?
I find that really hard to believe

I'm probably a bit more lenient on movies than I should be, so you should probably consider that a more subjective rating. I really enjoyed watching it.
Given 5 is average, it's probably more like a 6.5 or 7. It's definitely no 28 Days Later.
