Too bad only two Alien movies are worth watching. (Alien and Aliens, obviously)
[editline]23rd October 2014[/editline]
Actually, the Director's Cut or w/e it is of Alien 3 is pretty enjoyable. Fuck Resurrection.
The DC of Alien 3 salvages a lot from the original theatrical release. I've watched it a few times now and it's actually pretty good, unlike Resurrection which is really weird and shitty.
Watched Resident Evil Apocalypse. I remember me and my friend rented this when we were 8 or 9 years old, and it gave me nightmares so i figured i'd watch it again to see what the fuzz was all about.
Oh my god it's so bad. It sorta became entertaining because of how chock-full if cliches it is. Every fucking line, every character, every scenario.
has anyone seen snowpiercer? was it good?
I've heard it was good from pretty much everyone who's seen it.
Heard it was better than the comic it's based on.

Good set-up, bad resolution. I liked Evans' character a lot, and the whole SPOILERS [sp]thing with him being unable to lead "with both hands still intact", and then losing a hand, was great. And then he fucking died because one girl decided to kill everyone, that wasn't so great.[/sp] Honestly, I expected a better movie.
Lady in the Water - 3/10
Shyamalan boggles my mind. The Sixth Sense (even if the main character was a little stupid) was really good, Unbreakable was awesome but my God, it went downhill HARD after that. The Happening, The Last Airbender, Devil, After Earth, all colossally shit. What the hell happened?

yes

i liked Signs
i liked Signs
Signs is meh until the climax where it goes full-on fetal alcohol syndrome stupid. I mean for fuck's sake,[sp]the aliens are stopped by doors. DOORS![/sp]And that's not even getting into the biggest plot hole of them all, namely[sp]why, why, WHY in the name of God you would visit a planet where over 70% the surface is covered in your biggest weakness.[/sp]
who cares about the aliens, I was only bothered about the situation going on inside the house and it's well played.
It's not trying to be a Ridley Scott film, it's trying to be Bamalam and for what it was, it was quite good and well cast.
I for one think Bamalam is in some way misunderstood, maybe him getting progressively worse is actually some kind of method building up to his very best movie. I have faith m8.

That's why I carry a water gun with me

[sp]Ever think they have never even seen water until they arrived on earth?[/sp]
wackeen phoenix sure as hell whacked the hell out of the alien though. so it's all good, I think Signs in some way is Shamalama's best film in fact. For me, it left the twisty business behind and just went head on into a solid concept and kept his unique bamalam vibe throughout.
no it doesn't some are offensively bad
[sp]Ever think they have never even seen water until they arrived on earth?[/sp]
[sp]How the fuck do you miss that though. This is an alien species that's advanced enough for space travel yet they decide to show up butt-naked and can't be bothered to even scan the surface for water.[/sp]
scan the surface for water
the aliens just did it ok, this is not trying to be a complex Star Trek bonanza. It's just ALIEN goes to planet and that's IT.
the movie was far more focused on people anyway.

[sp]No I mean they have never come across water ever. Or maybe they have and just didn't care because they where that desperate for resources. I always figured that they where like the Independence Day aliens, going planet to planet for resources[/sp]
Zodiac (David Fincher, 2007)- 9/10
I've not seen all of Fincher's films, just Alien3, Se7en, Fight Club and Benjamin Button- and now this. Aware I've not seen a couple of his most acclaimed. But this is the best film he's made that I've seen. I adored it, in all aspects. The cast was great, and I loved the way it slowly rotated around different narratives and protagonists, slowly growing the cast over the first 30-40 minutes, having stories build and fall apart just as the evidence against the Zodiac killer did, its fluid movement through time and place, the amazingly sleek and subtle visuals and perfect pacing kept by Fincher proving he's a true master of his craft in a way very few American directors can honestly say. I think Fincher is a true master of "American cinema", he really embodies the style and nails it. He's a masterclass in your classic film theory. Like how to structure and shoot and frame a drama. He just does it so incredibly well with such apparent ease.
Idk, yea. I loved this. The cast was amazing and everyone, everyone, was perfect. A nice surprise to see Chloe Sevigny appear too cos she is my #1 girl crush and she is very cool even if she didn't have much screentime or time to shine. My boy Gyllenhaal was great, RDJ felt like RDJ tbh but he was good. Mark Ruffallo was absolutely top notch greatness I always forget he's amazing until I see him in something. One I need to look out for more. The cinematography was masterclass albeit subtly so. The way it framed everything, its ability to heavily imply the power balance etc, I love how Fincher always locks his camera off but will use tracking shots to such great effect as well. He's very meticulous with the camera, never showing more than necessary. His ability to create tension is just brilliant and it shines in this film perhaps more than any other he's done.
I thought this entire thing was top rate thriller, it's over 2 1/2 hours but it doesn't drag for a second, there's always new twists and turns and clues and mysteries appearing as well as these fantastic characters coming in and out of the story.
Highly highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good thriller, definitely a film that seems to be overlooked in Fincher's catalogue but imo it is his best (can't comment on Gone Girl or The Social Network yet, though)

Well it is a massive plot hole that kind of throws the entire plot down the drain because the entire resolution relies on a cheap turn-around that could have easily been switched for a much better idea at any point in production.
Benjamin Button was eh for me. Insanely boring visually and not so interesting.
My mum really really hates Fincher's Dragon Tattoo lmao. She really likes th eoriginal films+ the books. Idk. We do have it on DVD though. I've heard polarising but generally good things. Social network I am interested in though yea
Starting 2 watch Party Monster and its totally not cos Chloe Sevigny is in it lol (its also cos im interested 2 see Macaulay Culkin acting as an adult)
Gone Girl - 9.5/10
As with other experiences in this thread, I went to the theater with a group of friends and everyone except us were middle aged or old people.
Holy fuck, what a movie. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, only the rollercoaster goes up for half an hour then falls down at light speed for two.
It features one of the most despicable antagonists I have seen in a very long time. (Big spoilers)[sp] You personally experience what she does to people who wronged her when she fools you by "narrating" with the diary[/sp]
Every character is realistic, the protagonists are flawed but still likeable and fuck it I'm done with the review watch it
In Bruges. You should watch this/10
The whole plot isn't that good but obviously that's not the biggest focus of this movie. The characters are who make this movie so great and enjoyable. The way they handle certain situations, the way the interact with each other, the way they speak and their choice of words etc. Even made me laugh out loud a few times, something most dedicated comedies don't succeed in.

I think The Game is equally overlooked. It's another great thriller, and one of those movies that you can't look into because it would ruin a lot of the surprises.

Which still raises the question of[sp]why you would go to a planet with such a large amount of an unknown substance without any sort of protection whatsoever.[/sp]
Which still raises the question of[sp]why you would go to a planet with such a large amount of an unknown substance without any sort of protection whatsoever.[/sp]
it's a dumb alien not a plot hole.
no it doesn't some are offensively bad
The Last Airbender comes to mind.
if they can master space travel
again, it's not star trek at all, you never got an insight on their lifestyle..
this one point shadowing the entire movie for you is barmy.
maybe it's water at room temperature that kills them. who knows.
but none of this is really integral to the moral/overall vibe at all.
imo sixth sense had deeper 'issues' than your water thing.
Which still raises the question of[sp]why you would go to a planet with such a large amount of an unknown substance without any sort of protection whatsoever.[/sp]
The reward is worth the risk maybe.
The whole water thing is just the start of the problems with the movie.
mel gibson was actually good in it and i didnt hate him at all.
if the issues are acting then please reconsider..
