Bad words 8/10
Really funny movie, loved every bit.
It's called 1½ in some places I think.

It's basically a MS3K episode of the first movie but with timon & pumba. Apparently it's pretty good.
yeah, it's dumb but funny
Gone Girl (Dir. David Fincher, 2014)- 7/10...?
If I were to sum up this film in one word, it would be "unsatisfying". I'm not even sure what it was? I kind of didn't like this film? But also I really did. Im so so so conflicted about it from the ground up. I think I need to watch it again, and I will at some point. I don't really feel that able right now to put my thoughts into words because I have a lot of them and its' all jumbled right now and im trying to work it out. This film was weird. I didn't like some of it, I hated one or two bits (BOY was I turned off at the twist, HATED it entirely, felt cheap, shitty, hammy, I came to be ok with its impact and how it led to the rest of the film but I still do not like it in and of itself).I generally thought it was good.
Fincher was on form, acting was good to great (Rosamund Pike was A+). I was engaged the whole time, I liked the twists and turns, the surprising amount of comedic elements. It was weird that there are no really likeable characters in this film, in fact they're pretty much all unlikeable and those that aren't don't play a big enough role for them to be someone to invest in (not a new thing in Fincher films since there's no one likeable in Fight Club either but it was a bigger thing here). Not a criticism, an observation. The whole theme of gender perception and roles is something I was interested by a lot and how dispositions and expectations really shaped how this film went down, be it from the media to the characters we follow. I thought the film relied too much on exposition and voice-over, it was cheap. A fair bit of spoon feeding was in this supposedly ambiguous film. Also, [sp]I never really douvted Nick was innocent. It was pretty obvious that he didn't kill his wife, but I did still thoroughly enjoy the ride he was in for.[/sp]. Then again, it led to another form of tension- [sp]no one else believes it, so despite what he really did he could still go to prison and get the death penalty- which almost happens[/sp]. Despite me [sp]never thinking he was guilty of murder[/sp] I enjoyed that the film [sp]still judges him for other things he did, there's almost the idea of, "maybe he deserves this", a punishment for being a bad husband etc?[/sp] I thought there were several plotpoints that went nowhere but also... It's not really a criticism? I've given that disclaimer a few times now. Which I myself find interesting. Maybe the film rubbed me a slightly wrong way. I honestly don't know my overall thoughts on this film. It's really weird.
However despite my mixed thoughts I would say Fincher once again proves to be one of the very very best and looking at his work on this film it's pretty flawless. His clinical approach is great, he continues to be almost voyeuristic, non-judging, merely presenting and allowing the audience to think for themselves. Something rare in a mainstream hollywood film. He's a master and Gone Girl is masterfully made. I enjoy that Fincher is finding his niche more and more, I need to look at his last 2 films too but this was very much a natural progression from Zodiac. Gone are the days of Fight Club where he is very heavy handed and forcing shit down your throat, faking things, being overly dramatic to lie about depth that isn't there. Now he just lets things happen (not to say he is not a very involved filmmaker), he's matured a lot. He doesn't care about melodrama, he's not trying to provoke the audience, force emotion. He is very cynical and nihilistic, he always has been to an extent but this film is swimming in these things and I think that Fincher is moving this way but it makes sense and he does it very well.
I think this film is also fucking weird and surreal but no one has ever mentioned this? Maybe that's why I'm so conflicted? I expected a reality but this film is surreal. It's insane. Very Lynchian, but not so overtly- which almost makes it stranger. There's this detachment, disassociation, nightmarishness of everything in this film (gotta give Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross credit for their terrifyingly fantastic soundtrack which added to this). Also this film is really silly. It's totally ridiculous! It's B-grade pulp, but handled in a far higher caliber. Again... Not bashing the film, just pointing out something I've not seen mentioned in this thread. Perhaps due to the satire running through this film though. This film does talk a little about crime procedurals (literally, at one point, with Nick saying "I feel like I'm in Law & Order!" before humming the themesong. It's funny.) and it's a bit of a deconstruction of them. It also satirises the media and maybe romcoms, and critiques assumptions of gender roles (not very widely though, more the stereotypes of upper class white pretty heterosexual couple- but nonetheless interesting. It wasn't the main theme of the film.) I enjoyed its perspective on sociopathy, from what I can tell it was accurate in that regard.
This is messy as fuck post im aware but I just wanted to get some thoughts out there. There's a lot going on in this film and I didn't think this was as great as I hoped but in ways it surpassed me, so I really think I need to watch it again to wrap my head around it. I seem to be alone in finding this film fucking absurd.
the clusterfuck that is the lotr movies
rusty are you hacking accounts again
nah lotr films are a fucking mess (disclaimer- i like them a lot)
rusty are you hacking accounts again
i thought my opinion on the lotr movies was well known considering i shit over ppls opinions just about every time they're posted
You're not alone in thinking Gone Girl is absurd, mikey. I found it to be deeply unsettling and surreal, but I loved that about the film. I think if it played it more straight it would have been a very, very dull film.
btw did anyone else notice that Gone Girl is all about Ben Affleck Chasing Amy
Lone Survivor- 9/10
Not gunna lie but that was probably one of the best/better films out this year I've seen.
Shaun of the Dead - 10/10
Hot Fuzz - 9/10
The World's End - 7/10
The World's End really confuses me. Shaun & Fuzz have solid connections and share references and stuff, you can tell they're supposed to be in the same series, I notice something new in them every time I watch (This time: Ed has experience in shooting in Shaun because he shot his sister in the leg with an air rifle, in Hot Fuzz Danny shoots the doctor in the leg with an air rifle) it's stuff like that that makes The World's End feel not like a Cornetto film, cause there should be a reference to Nick Frost's character shooting someone with an air rifle, or an actual cornetto appearance, or the Frost's character being the dumb sidekick and Pegg's being the level headed standard protag, but there just isn't. The direction is a bit different too, there aren't as many sharp cuts. I dunno.
Fair enough that Wright wanted to try something different and incorporate some of the fighting stuff that he learned doing Scott Pilgrim into a film but he shouldn't have labelled it as a Cornetto film, cause it isn't really. There are some Cornetto running gags yeah but they're done differently and weirdly (the fence thing and the slot machine noise spring to mind), but there isn't any going to the shop or a "yeah boyyyy/royyyyy!", even the plot is too grand, in both Shaun and Fuzz it's just centred around one small town/community and it doesn't really seem to affect the outside world, in TWE it's literally the end of the world. He totally abandoned the style for TWE and it's just wrong.
In Summary: I really like The World's End, I think it's hilarious and I really like the character of Gary King, but it isn't a Cornetto film and it shouldn't have been labelled as one.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Really fucking good, 8/10, thoroughly enjoyed it. If only the series would have a happy ending. Can't wait for the third installment, hopefully they do it right and do the series justice and finish it off strong.
gone girl was absurd, but imo in a real good way.
you really get the sense affleck was in a total media trap that eventually destroys him. Made me feel uneasy as shit.
Sure it wasn't Silence of the Lambs or something, but Rosamund was playing it so stale and heartless I almost threw up.
Alien Vs. Predator 6/10
Unmemorable characters, shitty suspense, and way too much rehashing. Really the whole thing was just underwhelming.
[sp]and what the fuck bitch you ain't even anywhere near Dutch's level, shit, you ain't even close to Ripley's, so don't you fucking go quoting Alan "Motherfucking Dutch" Schaefer[/sp]
The Incredible Hulk (2008)- i thought the hulk looked pretty bad in this, and that ed norton did some lazy acting. really, the only things i liked were the battle scenes, most of the plot sucked, especially the liv tyler bits. 6/10
Star Wars- one of the most fun movies of all time. really, its a classic, nuff said. 9/10
The Empire Strikes Back- see Star Wars, and add a wicked plot. 10/10
Thor- i know most of you guys hate it, but i really liked this movie. It was fun, badass and had a solid plot. yeah, the fish out of water thing was a little stupid, but other than that, not too many complaints. best part was the cinematography and the costumes. 7.5/10
The Avengers- honestly, i had low expectations for this movie. I was worried Joss Whedon would be bad, and that it would do a Spiderman 3 thing where theres too many characters and not enough screen time. this movie blew me away, my favorite movie of 2012 thus far. 9/10
Jackass Number 2- (currently watching) fucking hysterical, but its not for everyone. you have to have the sense of humor the actors/stuntmen have. 8/10

Are you sure you're not a sociopath?
lmao no I didn't think that it was okay but I felt there was this sense of judgement around him due to the media's focus on that side of things, and media interference and representation was a big thing in this movie.
[editline]27th October 2014[/editline]
and reminder that Nick was not a good person even before the events of Gone Girl take place. Tot saying this to "justify" the events but more that he is not totally innocent from everything etc? I suppose??
[editline]27th October 2014[/editline]
wait do u mean the whole "enjoyment" thing I mean that I liked that the film didn't just shine over his wrongdoings or whatever and kept him a consistent and real character with his own issues and flaws despite the events of the movie. And in fact they really affect the way the film could go as it progresses.
Ben Affleck's infidelity is not acceptable but what she does to him is beyond anything I can even comprehend m8.
i know.... i said that......
it's worse than what happens in The Hunt... not quite Antichrist but still bad.
Scary Movie 2 - 6/10
It's crude humor, but it does crude well. I also think the spoofs were pretty good. Definitely not high brow though. It's the absurd, gross out, and the risque humor that makes it good.
I remember watching Scary Movie 5 and it wasn't very good. I think that's because it was made so many years after SM 4, that the creative talent either disappeared or lost their inspiration. Also, all the good horror movies have been spoofed, so Scary Movie 5 didn't have much of a pool of iconic horror films to draw from.
Pitch Black
4/5
Awesome movie and awesome premise. The only thing that bugs me about this movie is some of the writing/pacing in the first half. Sometimes it feels like they tried to write a scene, but gave up. Despite that, it's still rather effective. Every time I watch it I forget how much I really like this movie. Vin Diesel owns as Riddick. It's a shame the other movies never quite matched this one.
the other movies become campy fun imo
Rampage and Rampage Capital Punishment.
Kind of interesting, bit creeps me out that even though protagonist is a psychopath - what he's saying kind of makes sense and there is not really much that could prove it otherwise.
Rampage (2009) - 8/10
Rampage Capital Punishment (2014) - 6/10
P.S - I am not psychopath.
Rampage was the worst piece of shit garbage movie I've ever seen I completely forgot it existed
Wow what an awful no substance piece of garbage
Not dissing you for liking the films but fuck they're awful
John Wick - Woah/10
Fury: 8/10
Really enjoyed the film, really know how to build up tension in some scenes and some of the tanks battle scenes are as intense as fuck, really had me on the edge of my seat. Shows a gritty side to both sides of the war.
Not really a massive spoiler but something about one of the characters which I'll tag anyway:
The only thing I didn't like so much is [sp]the transformation of Normans character going from this wimpy little type writer who wants nothing to do with the war to then willing to risk his life and die with these men who had previously given him shit.
I know there are a few factors which come in to play during the film which would certainly effect his outlook on the war but I definitely think the transformation was too drastic too quick. Seemed to happen within a few days. [/sp]
Just watched Fury today, I quite liked it. 8/10
it's worse than what happens in The Hunt... not quite Antichrist but still bad.
Yeah, but ending to The Hunt forced me to make a half an hour break and rethink my life, while at the end of Gone Girl I just expressed "No way, what the fuck?!"
i think what happened in Gone Girl is quite viable considering the day and age we live in. Media are arseholes and people will always find new ways of screwing people over.
