the other movies become campy fun imo
Riddick was a fun movie [editline]d[/editline] Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 7/10 Pretty solid, I didn't think much more of it though honestly. It was good but I don't really understand why so many people think it's amazing. A lot of the characters, namely the humans, felt pretty hammy but the special effects were definitely impressive. Andy Serkis did a good job.
i think what happened in Gone Girl is quite viable considering the day and age we live in. Media are arseholes and people will always find new ways of screwing people over.
It was pretty tongue in cheek though the way that female anchor acted. Broadchurch had a much more realistic portrayal.
Alien: Director's Cut - 10/10 Solid movie, literally 0 faults, incredible atmosphere, nice cinematography in a lot of shots and some ridiculous costume/set design for the time. Aliens: Director's Cut - 9/10 James Cameron's second horror turned action movie followup. Again, awesome atmosphere and set designs, basically opened up the entire lore/fiction of the Alien series, fun action set pieces. Director's cut also includes a bit of back story for Newt which is really neat. Also if anyone gets the chance, check the blu-ray versions of these movies, the remastering work is just beautiful.
Been a while since I reviewed anything so I'm gonna review some of the new ones I saw. First one I saw was John Wick. John Wick is pretty dope. Keanu has always been fun to watch, he's a bit underrated. He reminds me of someone like Karl Urban. Has the leading roles but never seems to find commercial success in the most unlikely of places. Anyway, if you're coming into John Wick with a mind for a purely action-oriented film, this'll be the one for you. Probably the Action Film of the year so far, maybe barring Captain America 2 if you consider that action and not Super-Hero as a sub-genre. It has all the stylish-ness of The Raid films with the story of revenge flicks like Man on Fire or V for Vendetta. What's most impressive about the movie is the fact that the director is a first-timer and it was actually his stunt-double for a couple movies. Really crazy to think a mind with this much of a knack for direction has gone on so long being a simple stuntman. John Wick is a very fun, fast-paced movie with a good sense of humor. If you're even remotely into action movies i'd reccomend it highly. 8/10 is my score, albiet i'm starting to think scores are meaningless because this is an 8/10 as an action film. Rating it purely as a film does it no justice because it's a great action film and thats all it is. The deepest the movie gets is perhaps a not-so-subtle allegory for Keanu's career. The other movie I saw was Snowpiercer I've heard mixed things about this movie. "It was utter shit" "It was boring" "It was a masterpiece" "It was crazy" To tell you the truth, the people who find it boring must be really shitty people. It's so thrilling and captivating the whole time. It is directed by the man behind "The Host", one of my favorite films of all time, and you can tell. There are moments of style very particular to his South Korean flair. It adds a nice touch to a very north american feeling movie. It actually has quite the nice cast with Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton (in a very funny and amazing part in this film, might I add), and Kang-Ho Song. Really a very varied cast, something never seen very often with an entirely international cast. It fits the movie as well, which makes it all the more appropriate. Now there are people who didn't "get" this movie. I can understand. It may look complex on the outside, but from what I can tell, it is a very anti-government/pro-individualism film focused on showing how too much of one leads to the destruction of another. It was not incredibly deep and to me the movie is incredible on the surface as well. It works on a level similar to something like Animal Farm. Great on the surface with interesting layers as well. The acting is good, the action is good, the plot is very cool, but this movie isn't realistic, and it would do you well not to look too much into plot holes because there are some. I don't particularly get nit-picky and butt-hurt about stuff like that so it didn't bother me. I highly suggest this to anyone with an open mind and if you enjoy Joon-Ho Bong's other films. It is very, very enjoyable. People who found this boring? I feel bad for you. I give Snowpiercer a 9/10 Overall a great day for film watching in my opinion! I hope some of you check them both out because they're both fantastic films.
The Pursuit Of Happiness 9/10 Really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone. A very sad film though
Yesterday evening I went to the local cinema to see the Guardians of the Galaxy 9/10 First Marvel/Disney film where I actually laughed at the jokes
The music choices in Guardians of the Galaxy were so fucking good
Into The Storm I was expecting this to be cheesy shit, and parts of it were, but the movie actually took itself pretty seriously and for the most part it worked. It was really well paced, decently acted and the effects were far better than I thought they were gonna be. Obviously it's completely fucking retarded and unrealistic, with people standing five feet in front of stationary fire tornadoes, but it doesn't matter because it's entertaining as hell. There were also a few genuinely beautiful scenes, this one in particular, and despite a lot of it being shot from the perspective of handycams and film crews you wouldn't notice unless you tried. Barely any shakycam or the usual tropes. Overall it was thoroughly enjoyable 7/10
The music choices in Guardians of the Galaxy were so fucking good
Because it wasn't generic Marvel orchestral music
Blue Ruin - 7.2/10 i thought i was getting into the standard revenge flick, i was pleasantly surprised. It was a little more on the realistic side and had great shot composition for most of the time, it was only a bit slow/un-eventful at some parts.
Because it wasn't generic Marvel orchestral music
even the "generic orchestral music" they got was good because tyler bates isn't a shit composer like hans zimmer, even if he steals other people's music
Poltergeist - 9/10 those special effects were pretty fucking great considering they're over 30 years old. the only thing that looked pretty dated was the face ripping sequence some parts were cheesy in that 80's fashion but the movie on the whole was really entertaining. good mix of comedy and horror
Kill List 4/5 There was a screening and a Q&A with Ben Wheatley afterward. He's a cool guy. Pretty funny too.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Transfor-i mean Turtles. Why Megatron was in this movie ill never know. Overall it was ok 6/10
Might as well post the review: DBZ Battle of Gods: When I first was wondering about this, I wondered if they will make it too, well, I will say Americanized. Thankfully, its not as bad. The animation impresses me, the humor is there, a good movie. Downsides is again falls to the usual pattern, and well, they probably should have kept some music from the original version. 9/10
Misery- 9.5/10
As simple as it is, the ankle-breaking ranks very high on my top 'oh my god please stop already' scenes.
The music choices in Guardians of the Galaxy were so fucking good
Tron: Legacy would also like to say hi. [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] 10/10 film for me. Hashish and 3D goggles do wonders. When they were fighting with discs and living on the edge, it just struck me. The mightiness of it all. Also one of the dresser robo girls, all of my hnng.
The Prestige 6.5/10 Decent not great.
I really wish the prestige had [sp]stayed within the realm of reality[/sp] instead of going in the direction it did
The Lego Movie - 9/10 Had a good time watching it, but [sp]the way Lucy's and Batman's relation was depicted was absolutely bullshit.[/sp]
How do you mean?
I really wish the prestige had [sp]stayed within the realm of reality[/sp] instead of going in the direction it did
But that's like, half the appeal of the film.
Hmm, i was watching American History X again and I realised something not quite right about the film. There's just a lot of things the film is unsure of imo. Firstly, the dinner table sequence.. the argument wasn't refuted until they made Norton torture his sister to make his argument seem insane. And at the end of the day, nothing really hit home at all. Cept that Furlong should have had a better career, and Norton is dynamite. All in all, I'm confused.
American History X is a film that thinks u can undo deeply seeded lifelong bigotry in an evening but its still a very good movie despite it being pretty dumb [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] since it doesn't at all come off as dumb
I really wish the prestige had [sp]stayed within the realm of reality[/sp] instead of going in the direction it did
the worst part and this is partially responsible for how bad it is, is that now you see me couldn't make up its own damn mind about it ITS REAL ITS MAGIC ITS REAL ITS MAGIC ~~~~~~~
Hercules 6/10 This movie exceeded my initial expectations, I thought it'd be some lame shit like "Immortals" or "Clash of the Titans". But this movie was pretty good for what it was. I really liked the way they never really "tell" that he's the son of Zeus, and it all is just the effect of storytelling and legends. Now it wasn't a masterpiece, but if you want to watch some ancient Greece action, this one is pretty solid.

7/10 for the godfather, hmm what even qualifies as a great movie for you
Repo Man 4/5 It's a bizarre movie, but fun bizarre.
