I don't understand how Interstellar is getting so good reviews from people who understand how awful the writing is
At least they admit, there are people who think Gravity was well written.
Yea Interstellar's script was not awful it was just a bit hammy and silly at times. Its characters were pretty flat but not non-characters, its story was impressively easy to follow given the content, it was pretty well paced (personally thought it handled the 3 hour runtime well)... It literally used [sp]"love fixes all"[/sp] in a film about fucking space-time travel and wormholes and shit and it made it kind of work which is a feat in and of itself. Film's about a 6 or 7 to me, did not reach its ambition and it was disappointingly shallow, Interstellar is just another Hollywood blockbuster but an above average one.
The entire [sp]Matt Damon[/sp] sequence was fucking stupid and pointless tho. Entire thing was so forced.
bad too forgiving review never say "its just a movie so let it slide" thats terrible
It's definitely a good movie, but I think the [sp]tons of exposition from the 2nd planet can be cut down to just"I lied about the equation" by the 1st planet and have Matt Damon's character shut up about "survival instincts" during that fight.[/sp] It's great, but not perfect. The lengthy exposition is -1 point for me since I can honestly sit through a lengthy movie if it grabs my attention. Which it did, so that's something imo.
John Wick
I actually saw this movie twice now. I just thought it was amazing? It's an action movie sure but I loved everything about it. Great directional flair too from someone who's new at this thing. It's got everything I want in an 'action man takes revenge' movie. A likable actor in the lead, great fight choreography, well executed set pieces, interesting characters and hateful villains. The action is distinctive and I don't think I've seen a movie that mixed 'gun-kata' and martial arts like this before. Action scenes are stable and incredibly easy to follow. You won't miss out any of the cool shit John Wick does in the movie. It also had a pretty good soundtrack too. Everything worked and I feel like watching it again now.
Also, the world in John Wick is pretty cool and most of it isn't built up via boring expositions. Oh and it's good to see Keanu in the lead of something good again.
9 or a 10/10 I can't decide right now
I think another thing that's great about John Wick is how you learn about John's past throughout the movie, not by some dumb flashback in the beginning showing him work with his colleagues and something ~shocking~ happens that makes him want to retire or whatever. By seeing his interactions with his old pals and the funny scene with the cop that knocks on his door and all the other stuff, we understand how much of a legend he was without needing any exposition like you said.
It's been a month and I still can't handle how almost perfect John Wick was
No I agree, Nolan is a very mediocre writer, he can't not load his films with exposition. He has to, or his films become incoherent. It's a major crutch in all his films. My main gripe was you saying "it's just a movie, don't take it seriously" which doesn't make sense. Criticise as you see fit, I wouldn't let something slide "just cos its a movie.."

yeah it's really refreshing to see an action movie that relied on cleverly showing important background info rather than making dumb flashbacks or exposition scenes.
can't wait for it to come out on blu-ray (the movie looked good too)
Predestination
very subjective 9/10 it's exactly my taste.
the movie pretty much takes all of the flaws of time travel movies and uses them to its advantage
[editline]24th November 2014[/editline]
If you like Sci-Fi and intelligent plots, this is a 100% must watch
Fuck that make it 10/10 because I've never seen a timetravel movie that uses the concept so damn damn damn well
they're both shit and they will spoil the movie experience.
most of my personal gain was going into the film blind and being staggered how real it was.
sorry to disappoint :-(
i watched starred up and i don't think you have seen Oz
which is so much more brutal and so much more bleak

rofl this movie is so bad. and so far removed from anything intelligent. i think it might just be one of the worst implementations of timetravel
[editline]24th November 2014[/editline]
how does it use the flaws to its advantage? they're still just gaping flaws
i watched starred up and i don't think you have seen Oz

you're right i haven't
i don't give tv shows enough attention and i'm missing out these days
just watch oz (as soon as possible)

if only the subtitles didn't have that dumb font
seriously, that's my only gripe with John Wick. The movie is shot so cleanly and stylishly, yet the subtitles are these gaudy awful colors with emboss that's like a 14-year-old did in photoshop
i like them tbh. they had personality

so i just watched this
neat movie, interesting take on the concept but i wouldn't rate it as high as you did. i still think bttf is the best time travel movie.
also [sp]i seriously doubt the bureau wouldn't have realized jane was the bomber all along, the obvious answer was to simply stop one of the janes from being born, or kill one of them before their interactions ever happened.[/sp]
I watched this Icelandic movie called The Deep and it was surprisingly good. From the synopsis I thought this was going to be an Open Water type situation, just people floating around for the entire movie, but the sinking and survival aspect is actually only about 1/3 of the runtime. The rest is this really interesting story of how the sole survivor lived while everyone else died and also how he and his tiny village deals with the tragedy. I recommend it.

[sp]the beaureu knowing who it was was the whole point. the only person who didnt know was himself. until he did. it was some dumb thing about saving lives by taking lives, over and over. killing hitlers. like by killing a thousand you save a million, or some dumb shit.[/sp]

[sp]they never wanted to stop the bomber, they even said that the bureau grew and flourished due to the bomber, I think they set it up this way without John knowing[/sp]

what's exactly dumb about that?
[sp]the girl was him all along! he fell in love with himself! he had his own baby who was himself! are u fucking kidding me dude. TWO OF HIM GAVE BIRTH TO HIM. when you get to that point in your script writing, you gotta say 'hey. i think i fucked up here. i think i should scrap this and work on a movie that isn't about time travel, and have it make sense.'[/sp]

It's a good play on time paradoxes, I don't see why you think it's stupid, it's strange and potentially cheezy but the way it was done prevented it from becoming schlock-y.
Most viewers agree with that
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/predestination/
Sure that's no quality measure for a movie but that and the way you're oversimplificating and already partially going into all-caps-mode is a strong hint that you're just being a big opinion baby again trying to play of your own opinion as somehow a fact.

Ok it's really nice that you saw through the movie, you're obviously too clever for it and now we all know. Thanks for the valuable input.
I hope people see for themselves, it's a good movie that needs viewers.
I watched Jumper back in '08 when it came out and really liked it. Recently it popped up on Netflix.
Back then I literally loved every movie except Inglorious Basterds (I was young and stupid), so I was interested if it actually holds up. Especially considering the horrendously bad reviews it got.
I have to say it's still as good as I remembered it. The story isn't very deep, the characters aren't very fleshed out, but it's just a simple and very entertaining action flick and if that's wrong I don't want to be right.

I didn't finish the series as [sp] I heard the ending wasn't particularly good?[/sp]
even when oz is bad, it's still good. watch all of it. also i don't recall the ending being particularly bad. i'm sure it was great
hopefully worth watching anyway? :(
yes, but clear your mind of the trailers and you'll be ok.
but you studied them so I guess may as well watch the movie anyway
why study trailers when there's movies?

wait
are you talking about the tarantino flick or the older inglorious basterds from the 70s

nah it was for studying how a movie is marketed, what is represented, differences in countries, etc. so basic media stuff really.
Tyrannosaur
If you like movies where everything is terrible and ends badly then this is one for you. Not to say that's all it is, the characters are fantastic and, as much as I hate this word, exquisitely performed. The story too is engrossing and quite surprising. If you can stomach the tone it's seriously good.
Tyrannosaur is great Peter Mullen is soo good all the time. One of Scotland's best actors, probably one of the best in the UK
olivia colman has proved herself a superb actress over the past few years too

oh in that case the British trailer is the more in tune with the film then.
the american tries way too hard to make it hip and fun, the american market fails to comprehend something unique and in general the advertising for this kind of film is the same across the board.
I'd be surprised if this film ever got shown in a theatre over there.
even when oz is bad, it's still good.
what
Mockingjay Part 1
Literally a 2+ hour movie about Katniss shooting ads for the rebels. By far the worst in the series. Nothing happened, barely any new information was revealed, NOTHING! I have no idea who thought this had to be a two parter. There was barely enough content for 1/3 of a movie in this one. The only actual plot development was [sp]the Capitol bombed district 13[/sp], but they had no idea what they were doing and didn't actually accomplish anything and [sp]district 13 rescuing the tributes[/sp]. This could have been over in 40 minutes.
3/10
Edit:
Just found this review that sums it up perfectly:
"There's no worry about spoilers, because there's nothing to spoil. If anything, it's the movie that's spoiled from too much padding."
wait

Tarantino :(
(I saw the error in my ways and rewatched it last year)
