also does anyone recommend; "The Salvation" it's with the main actor from Jagten aka The Hunt, and I really liked his acting in that movie.
He's also great in this flick, but overall this film is nothing exceptional. Story is emotional enough for a western, but there are dozens of cliches good or bad. But if you like Mikkelsen and Eva Green, then yes it's worth watching. Also, there's Eric Cantona, what. [editline]30th November 2014[/editline]
Everything makes a ton more sense if you start to read into the symbolism stuff.
Or just watch it few more times, everything becomes clearer. And the cinematography+music is worth it.
fury - 8/10 not as good as end of watch but still pretty enjoyable
dude fury was way better. fury ruled. it even made me reconsider shia
Snatch 4/5 Brilliant fucking movie.
just got home watching Nightcrawler pretty fucking good. [sp]only thing i didnt like was perhaps the soundtrack, i dont know if it was deliberately encouraging in a forest gump kinda way. Weird, but I guess it fit the movie. Maybe it was his subjective reality being the uplifting soundtrack contrasting with whatever creepy shit is going on infront of the camera[/sp] all in all one of the best movies of 2014, 83/100
Which is funny, given that the guy also did Forrest Gump's music.
dude fury was way better. fury ruled. it even made me reconsider shia
honestly i hope jon bernthal gets a best supporting actor nom and shia was great as well, yeah.
Does anyone perhaps have the silent hill-esque soundtrack of The Babadook? I tried looking on youtube but turned up nothing, those (bells) sound frigging amazing in the movie
Nightcrawler. It was really good but I feel like I had the whole movie spoiled for me because I was an idiot and watched the trailer. Literally, the entire movie is in there. The only things that the trailer didn't spoil was [sp]bill paxton & crew getting taken out and the sidekick guy getting killed at the end.[/sp] Every other major plot point was shown. After the [sp]interrogation scene with the cop lady[/sp] I thought, "finally. We're entering new territory that I haven't seen"... and then the movie ended. Overall it was still really good, but I felt like I would've enjoyed it more going into it not knowing anything. [editline]1st December 2014[/editline] I give it an 8/10
yeah nightcrawler ruled
Lone survivor: 7/10 The actors did a great job of portraying the SEALS the movie was based on. It wasn't a character study in any way, but it made you care enough about them to make up some intense scenes. At parts it was a bit too Hollywood-y, but still pretty good.
Finished watching World's Greatest Dad Maybe it was because I did after Robin Williams death, it made the whole movie looked bloody depressing(although it was rather comedic) [sp]Especially the scene in the hallway where he saw his dead son and everyone hugged him. Damn feels[/sp]
The Maze Runner 2/5 Cringe worthy dialog, b-movie acting and shitty script. What confuses me is that this movie is rated from 15 years here, which usually corresponds to rated R in the US.
saw Nymphomaniac vol. I and II on Monday eh. Kinda average, with a couple of truly awful moments scattered throughout. I heard Antichrist and Melancholia are good though so I'll check those out at some point
Edge of Tomorrow 4/5
A Scene At Sea, 1991 - 10/10 [sp]No words needed, just feelings[/sp]
The Taking of Deborah Logan What do you call a found-footage horror movie that goes straight to Netflix, from an unknown director who is treading his way with this as his first film? Well, pretty typically "shit". Horror movies are well-known for being cheap to make, providing a great base for new directors and actors, for creating cult hits, and also for being incredibly shitty. This movie defies that trend. It's best if you go into this movie without any knowledge. I'll admit, I learned about this movie because a gif of the creepiest scene in the film was posted on Reddit's r/creepy. But for you, I say just jump in. A very rough description of the plot: A film crew for a main character's PhD thesis on Alzheimer's stays in a small Virginia town, documenting Sarah and Deborah Logan. Deborah, an elderly woman, is in the early stages of the affliction. The crew is in for more than they bargained for as Deborah's condition deteriorates very rapidly, and typical horror shit happens. The movie has a relatively generic plot device that's been done before, but frankly the interesting (and isn't this rare in horror movies?) characters and twist on the whole deal makes it pretty watchable. Acting is actually pretty damn good, characters are interesting, the film has very few tropes, doesn't rely on jump scares (though there are some) and masters creepy imagery and suspenseful sequences. The first-person perspective of the cameras is actually done decently, with very little shaky cam. Characters act rationally, and there's none of the typical horror film bullshit. Verdict: Creepy factor to the max Suspenseful as fuck Good acting New-ish setting and direction Great style Actual characters, which are actually interesting Relatively trope-defying Not reliant on jump scares Not all that original If you're into horror films, this is a decent one. If you liked The Blair Witch Project, or have been looking for a decent found footage film besides TBWP or [Rec], this is spot on. Great horror film. Definitely going to re-watch. Very accessible to average audiences. This is a horror movie, so it's not deep, but it's above-par. Skips all of the typical tired horror BS- no generic characters, no nudity to drag it down or distract for the fuck of it, and minimal use of the jump scares. 8/10
Which is funny, given that the guy also did Forrest Gump's music.
It's weird, I thought the exact same thing when I saw the composer's name (no idea why?) but James Newton Howard didnt make the Forrest Gump OST it's actually Alan Silvestri who also made Cast Away, etc. but it sounds a lot like Silvestri anyway.
I don't want to derail or something but I'm not sure where this post would fit better Anyone else think it would be awesome with a film discussion thread or section where we discuss the theoretic techniques of films, show examples of really awesome edited scenes, share film analysis videos, how films like Ida (2013) looks fucking striking - that kind of stuff? Like a section (similar to Creationism Corner but less creating art) for a megathread where Tony Zhou's videos would belong:
i finished watching the first season of Oz... oh my god, that's some good stuff m8. This contends with some of the best TV i've ever seen. [editline]3rd December 2014[/editline] great dynamic casting and fantastic set design.

A thread here would definitely be best at least for now, where you can just have several topics in the one megathread at least until it built up traction assuming it did. So long as people quote it wouldn't be very messy and tbh it'd probably not be a massively fast moving thread for the most part. That way it keeps moving and it doesn't end up some dead subforum because not enough people post. It also means you won't feel like you have to write an essay or anything, you can just come in and write a couple paragraphs or something since you're not burdened with having to establish potentially pages of discussion. It'd be nice. Where you can just come in and post about a specific technique or a great scene you saw in a movie you just watched. Come in and make a post about how you love the elevator scene in Drive and how it encapsulates everything the entire film is about and how it does it, discuss von Trier as a controversy and where he stands in the film world, trends in blockbusters, or just post about why you love David Fincher's style. im into it.
Wild Strawberries 10/10 gets better every time I love you Ingmar.
Four Weddings and One Funeral 6.5/10 cheesy dumb love story, but pretty neatly filmed and with some good acting. but holy shit this was so british I mean who instinctively yells 'blimey' when someone makes them jump. Funniest part of the movie
Predestination Twisted, but in that convoluted way. I guessed the "time travel catch" (that many people call a twist, if they're new to that specific sci-fi subgenre) during the first 10 minutes, and realized it properly somewhere in the middle. It kinda tries too hard, ends abruptly, explains a shit and requires a second viewing to get. But it was executed really well, especially acting wise. [editline]3rd December 2014[/editline] I thought about how it compares to [sp]Looper - it's not Looper 2.0, more like Looper^2 (not that Looper was the first film about this specific subject). Neither of them is an excellent film, but then again time travel is not an easy subject and both of this projects tackled it the way it could.[/sp] Sometimes less is more, I guess.

I was kinda like "ok I got it the first time". I really don't think it's a movie you need to watch again to truly appreciate. I doubt there's much you miss the first time around. I've watched a fuckton of movies as of late. Most pretty good, some not so much: American Beauty -- As good as I heard it would be. Loved every minute. 10/10 The Guard -- I like the McDonagh Brothers movies. All very good. 9/10 In Bruges -- One of my favourites. 10/10 The Imposter -- Very unsettling. I think if you haven't seen it you should give it a watch. 8/10 Edge of Tomorrow -- Entertaining. Not much else to it, though. 6/10 babadook -- 9/10 Heat -- 8/10 The Departed -- Not as good as Infernal Affairs in my opinion, but still a good remake. 7/10 Appaloosa -- 9/10 Lots more but I cba and the movie watching spree extends over just the past week and a half.
watched 2 movies dredd - second time I've watched it and it's still a really good action sci fi movie. visuals are amazing especially during the action. here's hoping for that sequel. 4/5 zodiac - probably one of my favorite movies so far. it did a really good job in engrossing you in the story, but that might just be the cryptic nature of the zodiac killer. I thought it was well-paced despite the huge gaps in between the zodiac killer's actions. although I feel like I should've watched it in one sitting rather than watch it in between my classes. 5/5

Nightcrawler was pretty awesome. It would have been a mediocre movie without Jake Gyllenhaal. His performance was just incredible. Of course, this movie probably set Aspergers acceptance back by at least ten years, but it was still great.
Grave of the Fireflies Not a big anime fan but Grave of the Fireflies is a great movie, my first time watching it in ~10 years and I still cried like a baby. 8.5/10, go give it a watch if you haven't yet.
one thing i will say about predestination is that i have yet to find any sort of loopholes or anything everything is pretty much covered, and i got that from just one viewing.
That's because [sp]time alterations were only about one person, making all story much simpler. There's also no question about how the original John/Jane got turned, because from time travel perspective it was all past - the agency accepted turning one person into a Fizzle Bomber in order to save more lives.[/sp] I'm not saying there's any depth to that, but in terms of editing it could've been presented better.
the Maze Runner 6-7/10 I liked it. shoot me the ending was quite bad although not incredibly terrible as everyone says. it was fun at least, and kept me on edge.
I also watched Maze Runner. 6/10 As well as Lets be Cops 6/10
