I recently rewatched Lost Highway to see if I would like it any better the second time around. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. This may be partly due to my greater exposure to Lynch since my first viewing. All in all, 8/10
Exodus disappointed. it had no heart. it just felt as if it was going through the motions. which is ultra sad because he dedicated it to tony Scott too. doesn't hold a candle to gladiator. in fact I think I enjoyed poopmethius more. it has some amazing sets and costumes, but not much else. [editline]5th December 2014[/editline] none of the characters had any personal or intimate on screen relationships. it just didn't make me feel anything. [editline]5th December 2014[/editline] like i think ridley went for a wider scope of story and all emotion got totally lost in that. for a movie about slavery and genocide it wasn't very sad.
goddamn it exodus doesn't come out until like christmas here
what happened to ridley scott
Alien is legit the best sci-fi film ever. It's a shame that he went from making films like that to films like Robin Hood and Exodus. He's just lame now for the most part. He can still do great things, I just don't hold my breath for him anymore.
Ridley Scott has always been a great director, but since he's never written a single script for a feature film he's basically entirely reliant on someone else's script writing skills. Even Prometheus despite having an absolutely garbage script was still visually impressive because Ridley Scott is a more than competent director.
Nameless Gangster(2012) ★★★★/5 [editline]6th December 2014[/editline]
I don't want to derail or something but I'm not sure where this post would fit better Anyone else think it would be awesome with a film discussion thread or section where we discuss the theoretic techniques of films, show examples of really awesome edited scenes, share film analysis videos, how films like Ida (2013) looks fucking striking - that kind of stuff? Like a section (similar to Creationism Corner but less creating art) for a megathread where Tony Zhou's videos would belong:
Although uploaded on YT by other users, they're done by a guy who goes by kogonada
Die Hard - 8.4/10 One of the best Christmas films ever.
The Emperor's New Groove - 8.5/10 I like animation, traditional and 3D, and I like stories with a cast of few (at least I think I do, I don't really know) so I watched this and it's very funny. Even if most of the jokes had been spoiled for me simply through word of mouth it got laughs out of me. The animation does its job, a troubled production saw that it couldn't have been anything more. When I become a villianess I want a minion like Kronk, though I wouldn't give 'em too much responsiblity over critical jobs.
Interstellar- 9.5/10 I might give it a 10 on rewatch, but I really, really enjoyed this film. I enjoy it even more thinking back to it, though.
ha ha ha ha ha The Imitation Game - eeeeeeeeeeeh. Felt a bit Oscar Baity at parts, but Benny Cabbagepatch really does put in a great performance, maybe even nomination worthy. Though he has been typecast as the quirky genius because of Sherlock.
Nightcrawler Jake Gyllenhaal is creepy as fuck/10
Predestination This is a weird one. It's okay in terms of characters and stuff, but the central concept of [sp]the predestination paradox[/sp] flat out does not make any sense whatsoever. Like, I get how it makes sense in a storyline way, but in terms of mathetmatics it's like saying 1=2. Makes no goddamn sense. Like, I know how it's supposed to make sense, in terms of storyline and whatsoever, but it totally doesn't in a logical way. But it's still a good flick. If I gave numerical scores I would give it, like, an eight point five. But I don't give numerical scores. lol
Interstellar - 4/5
nightcrawler - 9/10 jake gyllenhaal is so good
Big - 7/10 Seems like a really rewatchable film. Tom Hanks is really convincing acting like a kid. But I was just wondering that if [sp]he was so good at winning the fortune telling machine, why wouldn't he just use that to grant his every wish, if it's proven to work perfectly? lol[/sp]
Robert Rodriguez made an interview with John Carpenter, and it's awesome. I think I'm going to marathon some Carpenter now.
The Giver - 7/10 I have to admit it was a lot better than I thought it would be.
the lego movie [sp]i didnt like it[/sp]
Horrible Bosses 2 6.5/10 Definetly not as good as the first, but I won't lie, I laughed quite a bit. The chemistry between the 3 leads is just too perfect. Other than that the film doesn't have many redeeming qualities, the 'story' is weak and there are plenty of dumb juvinile jokes. It feels like they didn't really have any good ideas but felt like they just had to make a sequel regardless. Also Christoph Waltz was quite a waste, he could have had more screen time cause he would have made for a perfect horrible boss. He just a few short scenes. All in all I had some fun with it.
Nebraska 8/10
Earth to Echo 8/10 I dig found footage movies in general. This was a nice little sci-fi adventure, akin to E.T. Kids were good actors. Explosions in the Sky music is a plus. Not overtly complicated, fairly predictable but still enjoyable.
Watched Clash of Titans on Netflix because i love Greek mythology. Not very good and the only thing that made me kind of like it was the setting. 5/10 Also continued with my MCU "marathon" Iron Man 3 Definitely better than the first time I watched it. The first time I watched it I expected a movie like Iron Man 1, but it's very different. It's more about Tony and his struggles than the suit. The [sp]twist with the Mandarin being an idealized version of the Mandarin portrayed by an actor is actually really clever when you think about it, but I can see why comic book fans were really disappointed[/sp]. 8/10 All Hail The King The Marvel One Shot about Trevor Slattery's life in prison. It starts out very funny, but the big twist at the end about [sp]the real Mandarin being real[/sp] was awesome and might actually have a huge impact on future MCU films. 5/5
Robert Rodriguez made an interview with John Carpenter, and it's awesome. I think I'm going to marathon some Carpenter now.
two minutes in and i cant stand that editing. those damn ugly effects and as soon as carpenter starts talking about his childhood that horrible "sad" electric guitar chimes in. ugh [editline]8th December 2014[/editline] watched it anyway it wasnt that bad :)
Nightcrawler, might as well be a nine, but I ain't even finished it yet. [sp]The shirt ironing scene was some of the funniest scenes I've seen in a good while, right before hiring the shaky dude.[/sp] Overall some pretty excellent shit so far.
why are u reviewing a film in the middle of watching the film
why are u reviewing a film in the middle of watching the film
brother took pizza from the oven, and I've seen other people do it. I don't do that. Anyway it was great. Started small and went big. [sp]I saw him killing his pal from miles away though.. As many of you probably did as well.[/sp] Although what the hell was up with him [sp]supposedly killing a cop for a wrist watch?[/sp]
blueberries/10 seriously though, i was confused and bewildered at the same time, then i read it online and it all made a lot of sense. fantastic. next is nightcrawler, and then prisoners after that.
prisoners is one of my favorite movies currently snowpiercer - 6/10 interesting concept, but bad cgi, bad ending, and a handful of plotholes the butterfly effect - 8/10 really cool, little upset I haven't seen this sooner
blueberries/10 seriously though, i was confused and bewildered at the same time, then i read it online and it all made a lot of sense. fantastic. next is nightcrawler, and then prisoners after that.
jake gyllenhall really has reached something else in his acting career first donnie darko but then prince of persia, i just thought of him to sell out like most young aspiring actors or something but then prisoners, holy shit. then enemy and nightcrawler - fuck yeah.
he is choosing his roles incredibly well lately
Maze Runner I thought it was poorly thought out, story wasn't too well told and the characters were uninteresting but the interesting setting and the awesome monsters made it an enjoyable watch.
