I just watched Gone Girl 9/10
you're all forgetting that supposedly
how can it be supposedly after watching it all..
also i reckon pike for academy award nom.
it's not clear if the guy is telling the truth [sp] the movie has so many scenes where you can never be sure if they happened and I'm pretty sure the stalking part of NPH's character is true so who knows[/sp]
im not denying amy is [sp] a psycho bitch who's insane but nick isnt an entirely innocent goody two shoes either, people gloss over that [/sp]
still [sp] doesn't deserve THAT pnishment, I mean it's like modern hell but people don't get what they deserve so that's probably part of the message of the movie[/sp]
Srsly I just finished Gone Girl and Im feeling shaky, such an intense movie
[sp]I spent the last ten minutes waiting for her to kill Affleck. I didn't see any other way it could end.[/sp]
I don't know man, there is a scene where [sp]she narrates that he wanted a cool girls so she played a cool girl[/sp] so I think saying Afflecs character is partly at fault iss a bit like blaming someone who stepped into a bear trap for going into the woods in the first place.
I continued with my MCU marathon
Thor: The Dark World
Something about the CGI in Asgard feels really off. I didn't really like it in the first film, but this one has a lot more scenes there so it was more obvious, other than that it was a solid film. The weakest of the Phase 2 movies though (for now, I have no idea what to expect from Ant Man). 6.9/10
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I wasn't super impressed the first time I watched in the cinema, but this time was much better. Having really liked Captain America 1, I expected a similar movie from Captain America 2, but it really wasn't.
What I really like is how it actually has a HUGE impact on the MCU as a whole. [sp]SHIELD going down is a huge deal[/sp] for every future MCU movie playing on Earth and I really like the Agents of SHIELD tie in. Actually Agents of SHIELD is the only thing actually showing the proper aftermath of CA2. I'm a bit bummed about the generally weaker links between the Phase 2 movies compared to Phase 1, but considering what happened to Iron Man 2, that might be for the best.
Marvel One Shot
I would have also watched a Marvel One Shot to go with this batch of movies, but they stopped releasing them since Iron Man 3 :(
0/10
I also watched Hobbit 3 yesterday. It was pretty good, but I still have a ton of issues with it.
LotR was a gigantic book telling a story of epic proportions. They split it into three epic movies to tell the epic story in all it's gigantic epicness.
Hobbit was a short book telling the personal story of a hobbit travelling through Middle Earth. They split it into three huge movies trying to tell a huge and epic story.
Either Peter Jackson can only tell one type of story in his movies or he only wants to tell one type of story in his movies. What I really like about the MCU is that every movie has its own feel. Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America The Winter Soldier couldn't be more different, but they both have exactly the theme that is appropriate for their story.
The Hobbit trilogy is not the theme I would have chosen for a short book about a Hobbit. I'd have really liked a single 2 hour adventure film telling the story from the perspective of Bilbo. To their credit, they really did their best to make the Hobbit fill 9 hours of movies and it doesn't feel like a huge ripoff unlike other movies split in more parts that necessary *cough*cough*motherfucking Mockingjay*cough*cough*
They succeeded in filling most of the 9 hours with content, but they really didn't make a second LotR like they desperately tried to do.
Also it was much funnier than expected. The troll jumping head first into the wall and the war pig ([sp]WHY'D YOU HAVE TO DIE :'((((([/sp]) had the whole audience laughing.
Edit:
Nearly forgot one thing I really, really liked. HFR is fucking awesome and every movie should have it. 10/10
I watched Resident Evil: Afterlife and Resident Evil: Retribution.
I had a cyanide pill for this very moment. It didn't work.
afterlife was pretty fun though
The first three movies were bearable, but the final movie got to the point where it was only related to the video game by name only. I thought that was the worse you could do with an adaptation. The next two movies proved me wrong.
'Afterlife' showed that throwing an element or two from the game in there with no explanation was worse. Now that had to be the worst thing you could do.
But Paul W.S. Anderson, the "writer" and director of the abomination 'Retribution' did something worse. Millenia into the future, when we live in a dystopia that considers television entertainment heresy, the overlord will point to 'Retribution' and tell us, "We cannot let that happen again."
I'm ashamed of Anderson, because he's taking credit for writing 'Retribution'. The truth is that he sneaked into a kindergarten and took the papers off the desk of the kid wearing a helmet and thick glasses.
I doubt he even directed it as well. It was co-directed by a psych ward patient and his sock buddy that hasn't left his hand in over a decade.
Except for Milla Jovovovovovich, the cast of the movie was played by a bunch of rulers with tennis balls at the end. In order to give them the appearance of humans, the footage was given to a college freshman with two weeks of animation experience. The voices were all done by Microsoft Sam.

I think the problem is that you sound like a fan of the games where I've never played any of them.
I mean the movies are pretty bad but I didn't hate watching some of them.

You don't have to like the video games to see how bad it is. The acting is terrible, the plot is terrible, and you'll be left with a heluvalot of unanswered questions.
If you haven't played the video games or know where this is coming from, you're may be even worse off.

And I mean only the last two movies.
I also watched Hobbit 3 yesterday. It was pretty good, but I still have a ton of issues with it.

To be fair, what are you gonna base a movie on Bilbo Baggins about? Sitting at home being a reclusive cunt, shouting at anyone who knocks at the door and smoking Halflings' Leaf?
My biggest gripe with this movie was the fight scene with Legolas and that chieftain Orc. Does physics not exist in Middle Earth? The stone stepping he did was ridiculous. Bitch shoulda fell to his death.
But in all seriousness, I enjoyed the Hobbit 3. Tonnes of action, though the scenes with Sauron where it was flashing a lot, I'm surprised a few people didn't break out into seizures due to the epileptic nature of it. And the madness scenes were crazy as balls, felt like I was tripping.
The Hobbit movies are literally worse than The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith combined and I simply can't see why they got any praise at all aside from Martin Freeman being a good Bilbo.
[editline]16th December 2014[/editline]
And I went in wanting to like all of them.
I thought the first one was decent, but too divorced from what made the LOTR movies good (too much CGI where practical effects were used in the good trilogy, stuff like that). The second one was just plain boring, and I absolutely dread watching the final one.
Gone Girl was incredible. Easy 9.5/10. I've never read the book, but the only thing I was a little meh on was the fact that noone tries to further investigate Amy's story, despite being passed onto the feds. But at the same time it makes sense in an imperfect world, and there might not have been enough actual evidence to make the case worthwhile after such a media-driven emotionally impactful reunion.
Blazing Saddles ★½/5 I didn't enjoy it that much, I was expecting something at least as good as History pt.1
+ have something neat
wolf of wall street is overrated imo
id still give it a 7-8, but people are calling it one of the best movies ever and its just not
It's a 3/10 for me; but it's been hyped so much and held in high regards amongst the regular cinema-goers because of its pompous shit that it's became a hit.
Also, apparently, the more people rate a movie the higher its overall score is...so popular movies get high ratings even if they're shit.

Also, now that I'm reminded of this, I recommend Rogue trader, 9/10

This only says that good movies motivate people to vote more than bad movies do, nothing more

I'd say that you're jumping to a wrong conclusion here. Certain films are popular because they appeal to a wider audience, ergo it's more probable that bigger percentage of people will find it better than it actually is.

Could be...either way, when people go to see blockbusters they kindof already know they'll like the film, if you know what I say. When a film becomes cult phenomena it's kindof hard for most people to see it from a different perspective other than that of the hivemind.

you just rated blazing saddles a 3/10
i literally can never take your opinion seriously ever again
If you enjoyed Gone Girl, I totally recommend reading the book. The author wrote the screenplay for the film, so it honestly feels like you're reading an extended version of the film. It's really, really good.
Like, [sp]despite knowing the story, reading through the fake diary entries, I honestly still felt sorry for Amy and angry at Nick, EVEN THOUGH I KNEW SHE WAS LYING.[/sp]
Also, the reason I've been staying quiet through the Gone Girl discussion is because I've read the book, and some things are explained better in it than they are in the film, but I always feel that you ought to keep the book discussion and the film discussion separate, since they're two different pieces of media and should be judged on their own.

What things are explained better?
the third one is the best imo because it was directed by russell mulcahy, who directed highlander.
dude knows how to do action, and he realized how bad the films were and just made it campy fun.
but overall yes the series is pretty terrible, despite this i want to see how it ends considering the last scene from the latest movie is wesker sitting in the oval office.
also you should play the games, or at least up to 3/4. 5 and 6 aren't bad, but like there's a reason the series is called biohazard, because it stops being zombie survival horror and starts becoming more of a biological thriller, since raccoon city gets nuked. who the fuck decided to call it resident evil for the us release needs to be fired.
What things are explained better?
Things like [sp]why the police believe the diary over Nick's story (there are a bunch more things that Amy adds to it that aren't explored in the film, that even tie in to the ending of the book), just how long Amy has been constructing these elaborate revenges, the things Nick and Amy are thinking at extremely relevant points in the story (like when Amy is watching Nick on the TV, her entire thought process when she decides to go back to him and why she thinks it's a good idea and whatnot)[/sp]
I guess it's not really "explained better", but "expanded upon". Like things that might not be as believable in the film are expanded upon to the point where they become believable.
it's just a good book gosh dangit go read it
Children of Men: 10/10
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang: 8/10
Cabin Fever: 2/10
i like Cabin Fever
pretty sure the whole thing is a big joke like not "parody" but imo its funny and silly and self-aware. n it has the Pancakes scene
I haven't seen it since it was released but I remember liking it.
I dunno, the charm was lost on me completely. Like I understood what it was going for, but in a world where Cabin In The Woods and You're Next took the whole "love letter to horror movies/parody" thing and pretty much perfected it, Cabin Fever falls super flat.
