Saw a bunch of shitty romantic comedies What If (2013, with Daniel Radcliffe) Other than it being pretty generic, my biggest problem with this was that it had no flow. They jump from one scene to the other without giving you any sense of how much time has passed, and the dialogue is just jarring, it's witty joke after witty joke and it rarely feels like the characters are having a realistic conversation. I Love You, Man (2009, with Paul Rudd and Jason Segel) A step up from the last one but still kinda lame. They got a bunch of great actors but the script is crap, and some (I guess most) of the characters are only there to further the plot. Still, not that bad if you know what to expect and don't mind the cheap humor too much. Dan In Real Life (2007, with Steve Carell and Juliette Binoche) I was really disappointed it didn't keep the bleaker tone of the beginning and turned really formulaic after the first 40-50 minutes. Has some oddly over-the-top scenes that ruined the atmosphere and it just wasn't that funny, but what it did have in humor was much better than what the other movies had to offer. Enjoyed it more than the other two but still wouldn't pick it over most stuff I usually watch. Juno (2007, with Ellen Page. Technically not a rom-com but w/e) First time watching it since it came out, and I'm surprised it got as much hype as it did, not because it's offensively bad or anything, just because it's really... tame. There's not a hint of excess - in the style, the dialogue, the story or the characters, everything is just slightly above boring but not enough for me to be invested in anything. Some of it did feel a little unrealistic though, for example: why was that couple even together in the first place? They give all sorts of reasons as to why their [sp]marriage would fall apart[/sp] but they never showed a single thing they had in common. Also, for a movie that deals with teenage pregnancy, it dodges a lot of the issues you'd expect. They crack a joke or two about it but they most of the problems that arise aren't even directly related to the fact that she's pregnant.
Is Boyhood any good?
I would like to see it, but I heard it degrades in the second half.
The Muppet Christmas Carol - 8/10 Still the best "A Christmas Carol" adaptation. [editline]23rd December 2014[/editline]
I still haven't seen It's A Wonderful Life and I'm 20 years old. I know all about the movie, a bunch of quotes, I know the ending, etc. Is it really still worth watching? I don't hear people talk about it as much anymore.
I've only seen it once, a few years ago, but it's pretty good. It definitely shows its age - the pacing is a bit odd, teenagers are played by people obviously in their thirties, Jimmy Stewart is extraordinarily longsuffering - but the core of it is quite good and the final act, when George sees the world if he had never been born, is still pretty great. And if you don't like it, you can just read this Agony Booth writeup about how George is a pushover, Bedford Falls is full of leeches, Potter's an okay guy, and Mary is a narcissistic sociopath.
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels 4/5 Took me a while to get into this one, but all in all, it was pretty good. Sadly, not quite as good as Snatch, despite all the similarities. The big problem I had with this one was that Snatch's plotline was nice and tight, despite being everywhere at once. This, on the other hand, felt more like Guy Ritchie was playing fast and loose with the script, throwing everything together and just barely making it work.
Oh man, I fucking love this movie. Especially the reactions to the 'knives are for a pro' monologue.
Boyhood was boring and I disliked the kids attitude. [editline]24th December 2014[/editline] I mean if you plan a character/growing up study at least make it about someone people can care about?
Interstellar 3.5/10
John Wick 6/10 Mannnnnn this movie was stupid, but it ruled
John Wick 6/10 Mannnnnn this movie was stupid, but it ruled
I got really sad when the puppy died.
sharknado 10/10
Oh man, this movie is A+. Still haven't seen Snatch, though. I hear it's even better.
check out performance (1970), one of guy richie's main influences to his films, similar snappy editing and similar characters/acting
The Green Mile, 10/10 Tells such a good story. Tears every time.
Birdman - 9/10 Might be my favorite film of the year.
Predestination 8/10. Very, very surprised by this one. The trailer really doesn't do the movie any justice at all. There is some really great story telling for the first half which gets complimented by the second half with all the mind fucks. A much slower paced movie then I thought it would be, but for the better.
Pontypool 77/100 Pretty good, really scary and interesting concept, splashes of campy humor. Overall definitely worth watching if you want a horror movie with a really neat/unique execution It's on Netflix (US), too.

Coming to America - 7/10 Funny movie. Was watching it on TV and was surprised to see a youngish looking Samuel L Jackson. The scene he's in felt very much like a cameo/tribute role in the way his character act and speak. But it's the oldest movie I've seen him in so I'm not sure he was even famous at the time. Is this the scene that defined his common character as an actor or does he play it in any of the older movies he has been in?
Scrooged 8/10, watched it for our Christmas movie this year. Pretty classic Bill Murray acting
Die Hard 9/10 oh yeah now it's Christmas
The Interview 7.5/10 if you love Seth Rogen movies you'll enjoy it quite a bit, if you didn't like them before this won't change your mind. Quite interesting to see a movie tackle North Korea in a comedic manner, I think it did a good job at that but don't expect any great political satire here, it makes way better jokes about news and media. I had some good laughs, movie isn't anything amazing though, I don't think it's the best franco-rogen duo film out there although they have great chemistry and always manage to entertain just with that. I'll give extra credit to the actor who portrayed Kim Jong Un, he was fuckin hilarious.
The Interview - 6-7/10 A pretty standard comedy about a controversial topic (obviously). James Franco and Randall Park (who played Kimmy) were both great, and I'm surprised by how fat Park had to get in order to play Un. It's not at all a great movie, but because of recent events it's so much more great to see North Korea being stupid. I honestly don't agree that much about it being a great satire on the media, because it's only shown for like the first 15 minutes, so if you want to see that just go see Gone Girl. If you want to see a self-aware dumb movie then go see this I guess. Don't expect any intelligent jokes though. [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] I wish they showed more Pyongyang though
The Very First Noel - 3.5/5 Cute little animated short film about the wise men. I like the visual style and the rhyming script. Santa Claus is Comin' To Town - 7.5/10 Another Rankin-Bass classic (Rankin-Bassic?) that we hauled out the ol' VHS to watch. Mickey Rooney is a great Santa. This has some great songs, including the jivin' "Put One Foot in Front of the Other" and the trippy "My World is Beginning to Change" (it was the '70s, after all). Romeo Muller sure was great at coming up with interesting casts of characters. The Princess Bride - 9/10 A little lo-fi and dated, but a wonderful movie nevertheless. Swashbuckling adventure, gallant heroes, dastardly villains, great humor, and an excellent supporting cast makes this a real classic. The Intouchables - 5/10 My heart was not warmed. I feel cheated!
Unbroken - 6/10 Average Oscar bait with some really awful cinematography choices that ruin certain scenes, the main antagonist is casted very poorly just for more international appeal, and it leaves out a lot of important information and key elements from the great book.
The Interview - Funny film, good satire 8/10
Boyhood was boring and I disliked the kids attitude. [editline]24th December 2014[/editline] I mean if you plan a character/growing up study at least make it about someone people can care about?
I dunno man, I feel like the movie does rely pretty heavily on that feeling of nostalgia. I personally loved it, but that was more of the fact that I watched it just after turning 18 and having experienced a lot of those moments first hand, so I completely agreed with the kid's attitude for the most part. [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] I feel like you either see yourself in the characters and love the film, or you don't
Donnie Darko - 9/10 Pretty damn good. I love the hidden things hidden all over the movie. After watching the movie and recalling certain parts I got a lot of really satisfying "ah ha!" moments.
Oh Jesus someone was streaming Jingle All The Way so I watched it. Incredibly cheesy but all the star wars jokes in the chat were pretty hilarious. 4/10 as a film 7/10 as a shitty xmas movie.
The Interview - 8/10 I was expecting trash that consisted of grossout humour and pop culture references with a very thin story backing it. The story, however, was far better than I had expected, and it had much more focus than I anticipated Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever - 10/10 Christmasses, 8/10 overall Rated in terms of Christmas movies, it's a masterpiece. Self-aware meta humour all the way through, and Aubrey Plaza was the right choice. Also, Tardar continues to be adorable. In terms of movies as a whole, it's a fun ride, but not very deep.
christmas vacation - 8/10 this gets better every time i watch it because some of the jokes make more sense and the shit is just ridiculous overall.
