Just been to see 2001: A Space Odyssey at the National Media Museum. It was a real experience, complete with a 15-minute intermission in the middle. I've tried to watch 2001 before but couldn't get through it because of its very slow pace, so when I heard the BFI was organising some screenings I thought it would be the only way I'd ever watch it all the way through, and cool to see it on the big screen. Of course like most people I've already seen pretty much every scene individually, or at least references to them in other media.
They didn't show any trailers before it and instead showed a trailer for a 1960s Orson Welles-narrated travel documentary thing, kind of built up a retro atmosphere. They also played a track from the soundtrack before the film started, I guess that's something they used to do?
Kind of weird to give fucking 2001 a rating but overall I'd say this Kubrick kiddo has a lot to learn about cinema, 0/10 the film sucked
I don't know, it feels like it's more of an 'experience' than other films, not something you can really put a number on. 9??
If you enjoy the 'experience' film, I'd recommend you watch Koyaanisqatsi. The soundtrack is incredible, it gets an emotional response despite zero dialogue.
'Pure Cinema'
The new Hobbit - 5/10
Alfred should have been completely demolished by that last giant orc, and I'd probably would've given it a 6 just for that.

If I ever get the chance to see that on a cinema screen I'll probably check it out
Dawn of the Dead (1978) 8.75/10
First thing I should say is that this movie is 70’s as fuck, everything from the hair, dat synthy soundtrack, and weird ass special effects. The special effects are something I actually want to talk about because they are kind of a mixed bag. I think the blood and gore you get in this movie is great, a little cheesy mind you but it fits the tone of the movie incredibly well. If you want some good fucking special features you can find some really good videos of Tom Savini talking about blowing up a fake head filled with mayonnaise and corn. However every now and then you get some weird shit like knife stabs that don’t have any corresponding sound effects, this is actually a huge problem because the whole encounter can lose its punch and make the scene feel a little goofy. Then again you can get away with some of this weird shit in Dawn than any other of the Romero Dead movies, especially the original Dead trilogy.
The difference between Dawn and any other Dead movie is actually something I want to talk about. If you go watch Night of the Living Dead or Day of the Dead you’re basically watching the Last of Us movie (or at least better than any Last of Us movie we are ever gonna get). The Night and Day movie are fucking gritty, there themes are dark, and they are honest in their presentation. By that I mean Romero isn’t trying to trick you, he is telling you a dark ass story but he is being honest and straight forward. Dawn of the Dead is a whole different beast, it is basically parody. Parody that goes more than skin deep, it is easy to make the connections between the consuming flesh eating zombies walking around the mall, and the humans who once consumed at the mall. Yeah that is the surface comparison that everyone can make “oh maybe we are the zombies huc huc asbfkjasfbkg” yeah my niece can make that comparison but Dawn goes a little deeper than that. Something you need to remember is the Dawn is a parody, and in parody sub-text tends to become text. So basically if you want to pull something away from Dawn of the Dead you need to look at the sub-text of the text, if that makes any sense.
Yeah I think I wrote a little too much, maybe I am compensating for something. But there you go Dawn of the Dead my favorite of George Romero’s Dead movies.
See, I usually give Dawn of the Dead a 10, but that just stems from the fact that I grew up watching Romero's films.

I actually met George Romero, too.
It was like meeting God.

I would buy this on blu-ray tbh
that film is so excellently photographed it's unreal.. but it also shows how valuable 70mm film really is.
I still need to see Samsara too.
definitely the riddler, he wouldn't be my choice for green lantern but i think he'd do a fine job.
There was a rumour about few weeks ago that he is the WB's top choice for Green Lantern (because they still want to go with Hal Jordan). I think he would be OK in this role, but seeing how his recent career choices was mostly independent productions with ambitious screenplays (Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler, Everest) I don't think he wishes to be bound with contract for next few years.

Besides I want to see him in a role where he can show off his magnificent, perfect beard

Samsara is so beautiful, except that one really creepy part.
Just watched The Mist. Loved it a lot, would recommend.
[sp]God DAMN, that ending made me feel like shit[/sp]
Is John Wick any good?
Is John Wick any good?
Yes.
john wick is very good
not much to the plot or anything but it is a very flashy distinctive action movie.
How did you like Michael Nyqvist?
[editline]1st January 2015[/editline]
(aka russian boss in wick)
Too many times have I seen Swedish actors play Russian villains. Ex. Peter Stormare

If he dies, he dies.
sometimes i start watching a movie and im like 'damn I feel like peter stormare would play a good villain in this'
and then peter stormare is the villain in this
Is John Wick any good?
John Wick is fucking rad. It's "Hotline Miami: The Movie", in some parts.
...
Once you see it, you'll know which parts.
The Drop any good?
The Matrix - 9/10
One of the best action movies I've seen. Super tense and exciting.
The Matrix Reloaded - 6.5/10
....Not quite sure what happened here, but I for one found all this Zion shit to be boring. The action scenes were pretty good when there were those, but aside from that this was nowhere near as good as the original.
The Drop any good?
I found it too be good
Exodus
4/5
I enjoyed it, despite the fact that it felt like there were big chunks missing from the plot, everyone except Christian Bale and Joel Edgarton were criminally underused and nothing was particularly groundbreaking. At the very least, it was better than The Hobbit.
stay away from all matrix sequels
animatrix is good though
most of it
just go to your local theatre and watch John Wick instead
I guarantee you'll find it far more enjoyable
stay away from all matrix sequels
There's nothing really offensive about Reloaded.
We have Revolutions for that.
Gone Girl
9/10
Had me on the edge the entire movie. Totally amazing.
Nightcrawler - 8/10
Pretty great, wasn't a huge fan of the score though.
Interstellar - 8.5/10
Not the best science fiction movie since 2001, but probably the best of the last few years. My biggest complaint was [sp]the love conquers all thing, pretty damn sappy.[/sp]
district 9 > interstellar
2 different completely different movies.
yea but both sci-fi films from recent years and that was your statement lol so it's valid. Interstellar was pretty lackluster imo
District 9 is good but its message wasn't too subtle, but then again neither was Interstellars.
And [sp]Black alien goo fuel can change a human into a prawn, which includes completely changing the persons bone structure. If he turned into some horrible Jeff Goldblum The Fly type hybrid, that would have been better IMO[/sp]
ok but consider this: it was still sick as hell
