Watched "The Guest". It was alright. I see where people are pulling the drive similarities from but really story wise they're pretty different. Enjoyed the soundtrack.
I think people are trying to pull Drive to The Guest only because the protagonist is that kind of 'silent but badass' type, which you saw in Drive by Ryan Gosling. They both had the same kind of OST's as well.
The Guest was pretty good, but honestly the ending seemed a little forced and favorable toward;
[sp]The kids. I mean, honestly? The guy takes out several guys armed to the teeth with guns, and an LMG. Yet he gets stabbed and shot by two teenagers? Seems a bit silly to me. Don't say it was because of empathy, because he killed everyone with no care. He'd have killed them, but it seemed like that would be the better ending. Disregarding him walking away as a firefighter in disguise[/sp]
i almost left the cinema and would have if i wasnt a completionist to an apparently masochistic degree
For some reason I have a really hard time not finishing movies. I remember there was an episode of Cracked TV or something where they joke "I watched the whole thing, because if I don't watch movies all the way through I get terrible headaches that no doctor has been able to explain".
Really the only time I turn off a movie is (a) it's early enough in the movie that I can just not watch it or (b) it's late/I'm tired and going to fall asleep if I keep watching.
if you like musicals
do not see this movie
I sometimes wonder why there aren't more musicals. Some of the most popular movies of all time are musicals - The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain, The Sound of Music, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, most of Disney's features...
According to Wikipedia, musicals fell out of style in the 70s as audiences tastes shifted more towards gritty realism... sort of like what's happening now? I just like musicals. Give me more of them.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit - 7/10
Still a very enjoyable movie despite being almost 30 years old. The characters are likeable, the animation melding with the live action characters is very believable, and the humor is outrageous. I missed a lot of the jokes when I first watched this as a kid. But I'm just floored by all the innuendos they managed to get in there.
We need more interesting and subversive musicals like dancer in the dark
Adapt War Of The Worlds: The Musical to film
what we need is more like fiddler on the roof
Adapt War Of The Worlds: The Musical to film
Wouldn't be the same without the orchestra. That's a large part of the appeal.
what we need is a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, and more movies like the blues brothers
Batman Forever - 6.5/10
I was surprised that I actually liked this. I had heard so much shit about it but it really wasn't that bad IMO. Yes, it was a lot different than any of the better batman movies, but on its own it wasn't too bad.
Batman and Robin - 3/10
I regret everything.
Tommy Lee Jones as two face and Jim Carry as Riddler was just awesome. I like that movie too
I still uphold that Jurassic Park has some of the best CGI, like, ever. And that was over 20 years ago.
Jurassic Park still has good CGI (it suffers from low res textures when you see it in HD though), but to say there hasn't been better CGI since is silly.
Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition (Developer Commentary: Cast)
9/10, everything was perfect but I wanted more Christopher Lee and less Ian McKellen. No offense, but Ian just sort of rambles while Lee, besides having an extremely charming voice, shows how much of a massive Tolkien-fanboy he is every time he speaks.
Hopefully I'll hear more of him when I watch The Two Towers commentary.
Possession - 1981 9/10
This is one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. It's a horror movie starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani. My god it has some really insane scenes and cinematography.
I don't want to spoil anything, but this is thriller/horror in a David Lynch style done so so right. It sticks with you if you let yourself get into it.
Though, I suggest watching it with subtitles because some of the dialogue is difficult to hear.
Overall really unique experience watching this film.

lee is the only cast member to have ever met tolkien, and on top of that tolkien wanted him to play gandalf in the first adaptation.

I don't think having the audience shit its pants over Lee's voice is something you want from Gandalf.
Birdman - I now hate superhero films and broadway plays equally.
The Guest: 9/10 - Great action! Great actors! Great watch.
Whiplash: 10/10 I'm speechless. I haven't had a movie make me sit on the edge of my seat in a long time.

I can guarantee you that we'll see a film adaptation of Hedwig in a few next years.
i've been watching so much oz... it's just incredible. His Verne Shillinjer character is superb; also the actor that played Kareem Said is flawless.
such a shame simmons is only remembered for this:

I'm almost done season 5, so very near to watching Whiplash.
If it's a game changer, I'll hope it gets Simmons well recognised as a really good actor.

hedwig and the angry inch? there's already a movie, we won't see another for at least another ten years.
shit, there have been talks of a remake of jcss. what a joke that would be considering the last time they tried it.
The double - 7/10
Gone Girl
I've put off on watching this movie for a long time, despite all the laudation its received, and finally watched it tonight. This movie is just fucking incredible. It's so well-done and masterful its just unbelievable. That being said, the events in this movie are just nightmarish and I just fucking pray that this shit doesn't happen to me
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
absolutely fucking awful. found myself whispering "oh fuck off" at something about once every five minutes. the whole thing was just unbelievably stupid. would've walked out if i had been watching it on my own, and i've never walked out of a film. but i wasn't on my own, so i couldn't.

But the protagonist isn't all that quiet really, not as quiet as Ryan Gosling in Drive. He just comes off as being kind.
Anyway about the ending [sp]I'd agree with you, but he didn't die. I'm not sure if it was planned or not that he leaves the school with the kids thinking he's dead (there's some foreshadowing when he gives the kid the knife and mentions "burn the school") and he mentions during his supposed death that if there was another way he'd do it (such as faking his death).[/sp]

I said SOME of the best. It's up there, but it has been surpassed.

Evil Dead: The Musical, please.
Men, Women and Children (2014)
This film was so blatant about everything. The narration was verbose. The fact that they made out middle-class white America as the ENTIRE contemporary human condition (very, very blatantly during an attempt to be grand and meaningful, this could very easily have been avoided without the way they handled the introduction and conclusion). For something that was meant to revolve around reality, certain characters were handled almost comically. The pacing was all over the place. The middle of the film felt more like the ending than the ending did. At the very least, the cast was fine; Dean Norris handled his role about as well as he could have, and Adam Sandler (:suicide:) was actually okay in it.
I get what they were trying to do. But it was just so ham handed and unimaginative. Her did basically the same thing but exponentially better. 4/10
The cast commentary for Fellowship was great. They all seemed like they were having so much fun with it.
it's annoying tho, because the LOTR movies felt like actual passion projects with how devoted everyone was into making the film. Then you get the hobbit films that just feel kinda half assed by everyone on board, it's kinda sad.
The Grand Budapest Hotel - 10/10
Great comedy with some cool cinematography and a amazing soundtrack. The only gripe I had was that Ralph Fiennes' character didn't have enough screen time (even though he was in 3/4 of all scenes)
in the first hobbit when they're at the goblin town talking to the goblin king or whatever, for a second i honestly forgot i was watching a live action movie. it cuts to martin freeman's face and it was almost jarring
Hard Candy
8/10
Ellen Page is one badass 14 year old
fast paced scenes were too juddery for my liking, could've filmed at a higher frame rate
