I know Holy Mountain is also acclaimed so I'm going to check that out soon as well. I wonder if there'll be as much to that as there is to El Topo- far as I can tell, there will be.
You have no idea what you're in for. Be sure to watch Santa Sangre as well. It's what you get when you cross Jodorowsky with an Argento film.
Pacific Rim - 4/10 if it wasn't for the action, it'd be a 2/10 the action is great but everything else is fucking terrible. The whole "OMG GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING GIANT MONSTERS" got old REALLY fast. Don't waste your money.
Boogie Nights - 8/10 I didn't really think I was going to like this movie for the first 30 minutes or so, but then it catched up and I really started to like the plot. Most of the characters were great but some felt a bit out of place, but they added some comedic value, like Scotty and Little Bill, funniest thing I had never thougt the actor for Scotty would take the role for Lancaster Dodd in PTA's The Master, I was surprised when I saw that on IMdB. I liked that the film had kind of a satire feel to it, it provided some funny scenes, while still being dramatic. I don't want to spoil, but I'll say I liked the second half of the movie more than the beginning. The biggest problem that I had with it was directing and editing, it had it's own style but it felt a bit choppy and clumsy at sometimes. And Wahlbergs performance wasn't really the best, but not that bad either, although Burt Reynolds fit his role perfectly. And a big plus was the music. One last thing that I want to say that I think the title might be misleading, I was at first expecting something along Saturday Night Fever and that you had to be into all of that 70's and 80's shit to like this, but that wasn't the case really. If you haven't seen this I recommend it, pretty sure this is a movie to rewatch sometime too.
The Godfather 6.5/10 The Godfather part II 6.1/10 The Godfather part III 8.7/10
The Godfather 6.5/10 The Godfather part II 6.1/10 The Godfather part III 8.7/10
just when I thought I was out, they pull me back IN
The Godfather 6.5/10 The Godfather part II 6.1/10 The Godfather part III 8.7/10
I'd probably give Godfather a 9/10, part II a 7/10 and keep his rating for III the same.
just when I thought I was out, they pull me back IN
i liked the part when they were in the building and then the helicopter comes and then the helicopter shoots through the window at the people in the building
godfather 4: sofia coppola is not an actor
godfather 4: sofia coppola is not an actor
[sp]the part when she dies is hilarious[/sp]
[editline]12th July 2013[/editline] Props to Wahlberg for keeping a straight face
I hate it when that happens
Pacific Rim 7.5/10 Most of the acting was pretty bad apart a few stand outs like Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and I guess Charlie Day apart from when he was really annoying. Plot was paper thin though had set-up for a lot of world building which will hopefully be explored at some point. Some people thought there was a romance subplot but I disagree. The relationship seemed mostly platonic in a bromance kind of way. The action stole the show. Although most fight scenes were dark there was no shaky cam, there was always a light source to help focus on the be it the neon signs of Hong Kong or the floating choppers and IMO it was easy to tell what was happening. Through out every fight scene I was giddy as a 10 year old kid and smiling like a complete idiot. Put a bit more focus on the other Jaegars and have some day time fight scenes and the action would of been perfect. All in all [sp]Galactic Rim[/sp] when?
Frozen Ground - 5/10 i had some expectations for this because of the premise and the fact that its the director's first full length movie, none were met I expected something along the lines of Zodiac, a good mystery solving detective film y'know, but this doesnt even come close because everything is just thrown at you throughout the whole damn movie so you dont even have to think about anything, like at all no suspense, no tension, no mystery, its just things happening and you already kinda know where its headed towards even the climax scene that was supposed to be very intense was just so boring and pointless because you ALREADY KNEW EVERYTHING nic cage was nic cage, john cusack played the most uninteresting and expressionless serial killer, vanessa hudgens pole dancing was p good though
Easy A - I effin' Love this movie/10
Pacific Rim: 3/10 Loud, dull, dumb, and predictable. The robots and alien design is cool, but it doesn't save the film.
Tommy Boy 3/5 Funny stuff, Farley was great at physical humor and Spade isn't bad as the dry-witted straight man.
i saw pacific rim, and i liked it. i've never been a fan of mechs, because they are boring and lame, but this was a really cool movie. i didn't know it would be about them fighting monsters. i assumed they would just be fighting eachother. but the monsters were a very pleasant surprise. it was a bit dumb, but it worked very well, and the action was really cool. it was one of the few 'spectacle movies' (like avatar or something) that had more than just cgi and action to it. it had a cool and engaging plot (albeit sort of silly). one of it's big flaws were the actors and all their accents - nobody, except charlie - played their own nationality. and you could tell. there were brits as americans, brits as aussies, and americans as brits. i seriously don't understand why they needed to do this. you can almost always tell. but as i said, really cool action, interesting enough plot, and a very enjoyable thrill ride. i don't know what i want to rate it, but i enjoyed it.
im gonna watch 120 days of sodom, is it good?
Dark City 7.5/10 Watched it with my dad. Really cool movie, loved the concept and setting. Pacing was sometimes a little too fast but at the least the movie never slowed to a crawl or dragged. The acting was a bit "meh" but not enough to really ruin it for me. Solid movie, glad I saw it.
No Country for Old Men Definitely one of those movies that is extremely good, but one I don't think I'd want to watch ever again, honestly. Has a certain feel of despair and whatnot to it that made it very interesting to watch, but not something I would want to experience again in a way. Either way, hell of a good movie, glad I heard my dad talking about it and decided to watch it myself. 9.5/10 for sure
one of it's big flaws were the actors and all their accents - nobody, except charlie - played their own nationality. and you could tell. there were brits as americans, brits as aussies, and americans as brits. i seriously don't understand why they needed to do this. you can almost always tell.
Burn Gorman who plays the English 'eccentric' scientist is English, but he exaggerated his accent for 'hilarity'. EDIT: oh, he's american born, but he's lived in Britain for most of his life, so he does have a natural English accent
im gonna watch 120 days of sodom, is it good?
Yes but prepare cos its tough to get through. Also don't watch it with people around lol. First time I saw it I only saw the first half cos my brother got home and since we shared a room I was just like "nope I'm not gonna let him see me watching this" and turned it off. I don't really know if I'd be able to justify watching [sp]people literally eat shit[/sp]
saw it, didn't really leave a lasting impression although that probably has to do with the fact that i've seen alot of fucked up videos on the net i can see how other people would find it unforgettable though
Salo wasn't terrorising at all, people have really seen nothing if they think that's the most horrifying thing to be recorded to celluloid.... it's quite a unique piece of film but it's not very surreal in nature.
tbh i was dissappointed, i slept perfectly last night
i felt like salo was pointless. why go through all that and just have [sp]the kids all murdered at the end. felt like a waste of time.[/sp]
the last movie that i watched was martyrs it was pretty good except i didn't like the whole suffering/levels of suffering/hallucination/transcendence part of it it just didnt click for me unfortunately i give it 4 out of 5
The lone ranger - 8.5/10 Just as good as pirates of the Caribbean 1
The lone ranger - 8.5/10 Just as good as pirates of the Caribbean 1
the general opinion seems like it's the complete opposite of that
Pacific Rim 5.6/10 Some parts were enjoyable but I had a really big problem with [sp]that part when the main robot punches through an office building and it stops just when it hits one of those ball clacker office toys, and it sets it off and we see it clack a couple of times, and I guess it's supposed to be funny but it's just kinda awkward and it ruins the moment[/sp] If they fixed that the film could have easily gotten an extra 2.3 points.
