The Conjuring - 8/10
Ending was rushed, otherwise it was a genuine horror flick that really got me good.
only god forgives
9.5/10
wow
that shit was cool
Hot Fuzz - 9/10
Absolutely hilarious movie.
saw a few: The Isle, Fire and Only God Forgives.
A thing in common with these is that I'm very sure a lot of people are going to absolutely hate these films. The film called Fire, is an Indian film that caused so much controversy that fires were started in theatres in order to protest the release.
Something like that is just sad, because when we westerners look at such a film, the subject matter seems anything but offensive. It contains religious elements but in the end it's a heartfelt love story which goes against the conformities of hindu culture. I think the focus here was that it was a girl loving a girl rather than caring as to whether love mattered or not. I definitely haven't seen anything like that in Indian cinema though so definitely a good one.
Onto Only God Forgives
Now this film, is a whopper. But I reaaally doubt it'll gain followers in the numbers of Drive. I was never a Drive fanatic as such, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was invigorated but it never personally connected somehow. There were definitely some subtle spiritual elements but too subtle for me to remember and I'll definitely have to see it again.
This film though... is something else. It's VERY much away from the styles Refn has portrayed. You can see bits and pieces because he sure loves his colours. The shots here feel very intricate and placed. The pacing goes from being smooth to disconnected like a David Lynch film (although not to the extreme).
At the end of the day, it's a highly exhilarating watch for me. One I'd see again and; I never expected Christen Scott Thomas to portray something like that, she apparently hated it but she really ruled that role. Gosling was poised and a lot less of a boastful strong character as seen in pretty much all his films. Here he's very withdrawn and passive. Not the best role but it works in the context of the film.
As for the film itself, it's a kind of delicate thriller. Although it's gruesome, I think I've reached the point where blood and guts is what it is. :v:
The supposed "villain" is a lot more than what I thought actually. Quite an intriguing character opposite others, he too is withdrawn but he can talk Thai like he owns the place (also sing).
It's one Refn film I was attached to throughout. It MAY have something to do with my love for Asian vibes but yes a lot here is familiar to me. One of the Thai actors I'm sure I've seen somewhere, maybe in Rescue Dawn.. I'm pretty sure he says "Americalli" in one film. Then he gets [sp]fizzled by burning oil and whacked with a hot pan[/sp].
I think the violent nature here is very skilfully executed. Especially the pounding, I haven't seen such a sequence that emphasised the hits with quite realistic sounds.
To conclude, it won't be the dynamite that people were after. But for me personally, it has a solid intestinal grab. :-)
One for the late nights.
How To Train Your Dragon reminded me how good animated films can be, so I watched a couple more.
Ratatouille 8/10
I'd seen this before ages ago but there was a lot I couldn't remember so it was a pretty fresh experience. Nice and original film.
WALL-E 8/10
Great characters considering most of them are robots, they have real personality. Good fun.
Also, I watched HTTYD again and I might have to revise my score to 10/10, I never really give 10's but I love this film so much I think if I can call anything a 10 it may have to be this. Everything is so well done, great animation and the soundtrack is brilliant too. Definitely a 9 at least.
(You should watch it if you haven't.)
I'd rank Wall-E and Ratatouille higher than How to Train Your Dragon but that's my opinion.
They are both really good, but there's just something about HTTYD that I really really like. But yeah to each their own.

I actually thought HTTYD should have won the oscar over Toy Story 3, it was that good.
The meaning of life (monty python)
6.5 out of 10. Some of the jokes were funny, a lot of it was just shit though. Then again the sound quality wasn't on it's side. (i can't stand shitty sound)
The Savages
9/10
he didnt mention toy story 3???
I'm just saying I thought it was good.

Monty Python is unique in that is it still pretty funny even with the time that has passed, I mean go sodding watch an episode of Dad's army and try to laugh at that. I found it impossible.
The problem is some of it has still suffered all the same.
All the people I've met that saw the cinema release of 'Life of Brian' thought the bit where Jesus falls off a great height only to be saved by a random alien spaceship that zooms around in space with cheap alien costumes inside while Jesus just looks befuddled was one of the funniest things they'd ever seen because it was so random and unexpected- it wouldn't be so funny to some people now for certain.
Only God Forgives - 9.5/10
Damn fine movie.

I hate Monty Python, I don't understand what's so funny about it.
Oldboy - 10/10
Shiiit.

HTTYD was good
but you can't beat Pixar at their own game
TS3 brought full grown men to tears
dreamworks has yet to produce a film with that level of feels

Toy Story 3 had the advantage of being an established series for a decade. HTTYD was something fresh.
monty python is funny when you're 10 years old
it's essentially 'xd randome' bullshit, devoid of any level of wit. but nobody on the internet agrees because theyre wearing their nostalgia goggles and masturbating all over it.
i loved it when it was little, but watching it as an adult its objectively unfunny. i cant even smile at it.

nobody's debating that, i loved HTTYD
it's just that TS3 is still the superior film.
I'm sick of this "nobody can beat pixar" mentality. They've really been slipping since Cars 2.
Rango kicks a load of Pixar films' asses

the holy grail used to be my favourite movie of all time. watching it again was so painful and insufferable. it's the anti-funny

Most engaging movie I've seen in years.

I have seen it as an adult. Holy Grail, Flying Circus, Life Of Brian, Meaning Of Life, all of it. In fact, I didn't even start seeing their stuff until I was older. I have (and still do) find it funny. The only problem is that so many other shows or people tried to copy it's style/success or quote it on the internet that it can taint your perception to the point where it's hard to appreciate the fact that back when this show originally aired it was considered witty and original.

once again you assume things that were not said
i didn't say nobody can beat pixar
i just said toy story 3 was better than how to train your dragon.

have you considered the possibility that you've simply become an old cynical douche, and the things you once enjoyed you just simply no longer find entertaining?
either way, this should help out

I still think 'Up' was the best Pixar film ever made so far.
