Napoleon Dynamite I don't know why I like this movie. It's not very funny and the story is pretty dull but there's just something about it. I guess it's a case of style over substance.
12 Angry Men - 8/10 Hit me at the end that I was captivated by a movie that entirely takes place in one room and is entirely about the acting and nothing more.

^it's a secret confirmation that the end is reality, duh. oh and rusty you'll love this. it's still funny.

The Conjuring -- i don't like number ratings/10 I really enjoyed it, though. Yes, it's formulaic. No, it doesn't really have any new ideas. For that matter [sp]the exorcism scene is pulled almost move-for-move from The Exorcist, it feels like.[/sp] But it was a lot of fun and extremely well executed. It's definitely the best straight-up horror movie I've seen in years (I say straight-up to exclude the fantastic Cabin in the Woods), which may be faint praise. But the cinematography was excellent, the director never lingered to long on the scary faces, and in general the movie did a great job of leaving just enough to the imagination to be thoroughly unsettling. Plus, the child actors that portray the Perrons' six daughters all did really great jobs. Some of the best scenes ([sp]"There's someone standing behind the door...."[/sp]) ride on their acting and they never disappoint. Overall, it's not quite The Exorcist, but it comes rather surprisingly close. Oh, and it's definitely a movie best watched in a crowded theater. I went with a bunch of friends and we ended up having to split up because the theater was so crowded. Watching the audience jump was almost better than the movie. You could really tell they were on edge, too, because in one really quiet scene, someone sneezed, and like half the theater said "bless you." :v: [editline]23rd July 2013[/editline] Also, the very last scene: I loved it. [sp]It really feels like it's going to go for some jump scare or something equally cheap (see: Sinister, ughhhh), but then it didn't. And it just made me so happy. I'd say it was almost scarier without Rory jumping out or something... felt Inception-esque, but in a good way.[/sp]
Napoleon Dynamite I don't know why I like this movie. It's not very funny and the story is pretty dull but there's just something about it. I guess it's a case of style over substance.
It had a low budget, only like $400,000 i think
2001: A Space Odyssee Never watched a movie like this before, truly mesmerizing and intruiging. Beautiful yet really dark and eerie, especially the song that is associated with the monoliths. It's really something special.
There Will Be Blood - 10/10 One of my favourite films, I had to watch it again after mentioning it earlier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zirtzDl2RH0 this fucking scene, so perfect
Always thought There Will Be Blood deserved the Best Picture that year.
Well, it didn't 'lose' to a unworthy competitor. 'No Country for Old Men' is a fine movie to 'lose' to and I love them both equally.
Always thought There Will Be Blood deserved the Best Picture that year.
Yeah, and me. At least it didn't lose to some schlock.
Oh hey There Will Be Blood is on netflix. Guess I'm finally gonna get round to watching it.
Oh hey There Will Be Blood is on netflix. Guess I'm finally gonna get round to watching it.
It is? Not for streaming.

Only God Forgives 8.5/10
Hey guys, Today I watched "Jack the Giant Slayer". It may sound childish, but its not, its a REALLY good film, about a modernized version of "Jack and the Beanstalk". It had a really good story, and a really good build up to when the giants tried to take over the Human Kingdom, I highly recommend you all to watch it, as it is a good watch, so, get out your popcorn, and go watch that film! Link to trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ6aeaGQKUE
I'd consider it more average. There were many things that could have been better. It felt really short. Pacing felt off. I liked the giants and the premise a lot, but I felt like it fell a bit short. Could have been so much better.
American Beauty 8.9/10 I want to give this movie a ten because rarely do human condition movies like this brush up against the bottom of anything truly sublime; however, this almost does. With so many facets, it's tempting to say that it's a perfect gem, but ultimately, it falls into a lot of the pitfalls that other ambitious art-films of this nature tread upon. A not too fresh setting, not too fresh themes, cliches upon cliches all prevent a cinematographically perfect film from being just perfect. A lot of the subjects aren't poignant today and I don't think that they were poignant two decades ago. That aside, the pacing is off-tempo in the most interesting sense, Kevin Spacey is Kevin Spacey, the cinematography is fantastic, the parallels between each characters' personal arc, and the pure volume of themes addressed are laudable.
Gonna go see pacific rim later today, kind of a shame that the only theater showing it around here is the worst theater in Virginia, but it should still be fun to see :v:
just watched the newly released 4k master of Spiderman 2.. damn dat's one heavy weight blu ray quality... I'm not sure how it compared to the other one but I've only ever seen the one on dvd and the image and impeccable sound make it a supreme package. It's not everyone's cup of tea apparently but when a film like this is relentless in both the spirit and action, it just becomes more dynamic and worthwhile. There's an ongoing philosophical theme which only adds layers onto the character and meaning of the film. If you appreciate only the mere plot devices then that's fine, you do owe it to yourself to not miss what message can be taken away from the film. It's the only Spider movie that I'll keep. And it's a good time when a movie company works hard to get the home experience as good as possible.
Once Upon a Time in The west - 9/10 absolutely stunning movie, amazing soundtrack. ending duel is great.
Only God Forgives - 8/10
i didnt know they released spiderman 2 in 4k master. that is cool
The Worlds End 8.35/10, While I don't think it matches the first two films it's still enjoyable.
The Usual Suspects 9/10 That fucking ending
the godfather (first time) - it was great. i had a good time watching it, but as usual i had difficulties understanding everything
