Yeah, I initially thought that Alien would be an action flick but it's rather a really atmospheric movie which has tons of details and a great cast of characters. Glad that I watched it.
The second Alien movie is more like an action movie, but it still manages to keep the atmosphere and tension of the first one. I'd say it's just as good as the first movie.
Continuing my list of films that I should have really watched a long time ago but put them off; The Shawshank Redemption (1994). When I've heard and or seen this film being mentioned in places I always instantly thought, "It can't be that good", but it truly is. I've never felt such emotion from a film, besides from Vertigo. By the ending I was left to be put simply astounded. I haven't put a rating on this film (apologies), because I can't seem to find a rating that feels right. If you haven't seen it, which is presumably quite a small amount of people based on the amount of people I've asked around me, just watch it.
Blue Velvet Because of Eraserhead, Twin Peaks, and Mulholland Drive, I'm a pretty devoted David Lynch fan, and the fact that I hadn't gotten around to watching this movie seemed pretty sacrilegious. So I patched that hole up just now. Basically: not nearly as much of a mindfuck as I'm used to from Lynch. Maybe it's just because I'm starting to get an idea of "how" to watch his stuff, but I don't feel the urgent need to spend hours reading analysis like I usually do after his movies. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I'd say that this movie is pretty good evidence that Lynch is perfectly capable of producing a relatively "normal" movie in terms of structure and linearity. But of course it was totally beautiful and depressing and memorable. It DEFINITELY feels like the precursor to Twin Peaks, for a lot of reasons... it's all about the "dark side" of shiny, spick-and-span suburbia. But more than that I'd say the essential messages of optimism and the power of love amidst darkness and evil really feel Twin-Peaks-ian. And it was pretty damn emotionally draining. Lynch is too good at that.
The Life Aquatic It was pretty funny but very weird. I didn't really like it.
seems like that's one of the most ill received of his movies (I rather like it) give moonrise kingdom a watch, it's really awesome
In The Flesh 10/10 fantastic, best miniseries I've watched in a long time. Great drama, great ending. Very clever.
Alien Resurrection - shit/10 Blegh, this movie is atrocious. Bad writing, obnoxious and really annoying direction.. it's just overall a stupid fucking movie that makes no sense.
The Darjeeling Limited - 8/10
Logan's Run - 8.5/10 Despite the flawed effects, I loved this film. The last minute of the movie really got me too with tears of joy
Oblivion 6/10 It looked nice I guess, but I only saw the first fourty or so minutes though. some acquaintances invited me to watch the film and they spent most of the time just playing on their cellphones and after a bit, they started to leave and they said, "come on let's go eat". I said, "wait, aren't we going to finish the movie?" they looked all surprised and amused and someone said, "the whole movie? who ever watches the whole movie? We're not just going to sit there for two hours doing nothing." They said they could just go online and look up what happens anyway. When I asked them why we went anyway, they said it was just "something to do." I don't think I wanna hang out with them anymore.
this is like, unheard of. do your friends know that they're the only ones that do this? [editline]27th April 2013[/editline] also, iron man 3. i liked it quite a bit. much much better than 2. it had a nice quick wit and was really entertaining.
42 - 8.5/10 Suffered a little from feeling too familiar (This kind of story has been done many times after all) but it had strong pacing and excellent acting, especially from Harrison Ford and Chad Boseman. John C. McGinley, Alan Tudyk, and Christopher Meloni also did a superb job, and really owned the scenes they were in.
Just finished Predator and Predator 2. They were awesome. Quarter of the way through Predators and.... guughh. Why do Alien and Predator both have the same movie cycle? 1. Great! 2. Fuck yes, so much action! 3+. gugugGUUHHH [editline]27th April 2013[/editline]
Alien Resurrection - shit/10 Blegh, this movie is atrocious. They seriously should have left alien and predator at two movies, and maaaaybe just one AVP movie. Then again, haven't watched avp or avp:r since I was like 11, so... yeah. marathoning through these movies so i should have a pretty good idea of which ones suck or not
Strange, a lot of people I've come across like Predators better than Predator 2. I liked Predator 2 just fine and would've preferred if the original series ended there. Predator didnt really require a sequel in the first place anyway. Same for the Alien series. (poor poor [sp]Biehn/Reese/Hicks and Newt[/sp], I know [sp]Hicks is still alive in Aliens:CM but whatev[/sp]) One thing I wanna say is that I liked the relationship between Ripley and Hicks. Just felt really natural to me.
there's a lot of homages and shit to predator so far in predators. kinda neat seeing all the different "fight-shoot-gun-people" together in one place, but the gun military nerd inside of me is having an aneurysm due to some of these inconsistencies
I now feel lucky to have friends who like movies as much as I do.
"the new The Thing is much better than the 1982 version" "I had a great time watching the Last Airbender in 3D at the cinema last night" "Adam Sandler is funny and talented and makes great movies" while watching The Departed: "when is this over..." "The Zookeeper is a good movie" - my friends
How do you not go crazy and not mentally block out everything they say about anything related to film?
that's what I do first I tried explaining, but it's usually 3-4 people against just me, and they think I'm the nutty guy that likes ' deep ' and boring artsy movies.
okay so i finished predators a few hours ago and it wasn't that bad. minor spoilers ahead, they're pretty vague so i'm not going to bother spoiler tagging. i probably went into it having a super negative opinion because i am a sucker for late 80's / early 90's scifi movies. the entire premise behind predators was pretty fucking stupid, with the "hey let's throw humans on our planet to hunt them i guess," but that doesn't really detract from the experience. after a while the story kind of slipped away for me and i was just enjoying all of the action and shit. it definitely wasn't fuckin' blade runner or anything, and definitely wasn't predator 1, but it was pretty fun. overall, like... 7/10 on an IGN-tier scale i guess? at least it's not as bad as prometheus. please don't watch that. [editline]27th April 2013[/editline] i think i am going to do an M night shamalyn or bad arnold movie marathon once i get up in a few hours. i don't know why i subject myself to this kind of torture
seems like that's one of the most ill received of his movies (I rather like it) give moonrise kingdom a watch, it's really awesome
Already saw it when it was in cinemas. I loved it.
okay i just finished watching avp requiem long story short, don't watch this terrible movie. it's really fucking bad, like awfully bad. i'd literally rather watch an uwe boll movie than this shit. the fact that aliens and predators duke it out doesn't make up for the fact that this movie is so bad.
I even went to the cinema for that movie with my dad. The effects are so bad, it's not even funny. It's to dark and shaddy. You don't know what the fuck is going on and those teenagers are absolutely annoying and the dialogues are horrible. It's just a clusterfuck. Although I liked how that girl was smashed to the wall with the Predator bumarang, it was totally unexpected :v:
Disney's Princess and the Frog Best Disney movie I've seen in years and Dr. Facilier is one of the best Disney villains ever.
Iron Man 3 - 8/10 Really liked it. Showed a nice side of Tony Stark that we didn't really get to experience in the previous movies. And the part where [sp]all the suits came flying in to wreak havoc[/sp] gave me the sickest nerdchills.
the only time i talk about movies in school is when i meet someone new and they say they're a "film buff" so I say I love film too. Then I tell them something like I've been on a Buster Keaton binge lately or I've been interested in some other director or something and then they always say "Who?" and we talk for a bit and it turns out they don't know much about film really. it's like when you ask people what music they like. they always answer, I listen to everything, but they always listen to barely anything. by the way, more people should watch Buster Keaton movies. he's great.
Story of my life. I got so much flack for hating Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy" that I hardly make my opinion public anymore. "How can you hate that movie? It's classic 80s humor! Sex, drugs and rock and roll!" That statement is so fucking wrong that it hurt me to even type it.
I know I was an ass for doing it but when I was in highschool and sometimes had these type of friends, I avoided talking and doing anything that was related to film around them. Some guy even started bad mouthing me around school because I thought Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen was bad. So next time when these friends started saying stupid stuff about movies, I just smiled and nodded while my brain left my head and went on some fantastic adventures. An incredibly well told story about a guy accused of touching a little girl (Mads Mikkelsen) and how it ruins his life. Depressing as all hell. If you're partial to character dramas and the such, I highly recommend it. [editline]28th April 2013[/editline] It's sort of like Doubt, but way better.
If there is one thing I do know about Predator 2 is that geeks everywhere who like to fanwank over the skill and strength of the Predators (Yautja) scream in horror when they watch Danny Glover kill a Predator in cqc.
Thor 8/10 I love movies like this, cant wait for the next one to come!

It's one of those "everything is terrible" kind of movies.

Robot and Frank 10/10
