I was hoping for so much more but I was disappointed. Characters were left very shallow, and the plot left rendered meaningless. It could've been a lot better but I feel it was rushed. But the cinematography was stunning.
the characters were actually very deep, well, julian was at least, if you caught all of the symbolism and subtle stuff. if you just listened to the dialogue without paying a lot of attention to the small stuff i could understand why you think the characters were shallow
Just came back from watching two movies today
Only God Forgives - 9/10
I felt like a sponge whilst watching it. I just focused on absorbing every single little thing because it really felt like a movie you had to pay attention to. Everything was shot beautifully, the soundtrack was magnificent, the violence was done effectively and the characters were intriguing. I wouldn't really compare this to Drive because they're stylistically different and they're both great movies. It would all fall down to a matter of preference. However like others said before, don't expect it to be Drive 2.0 because it isn't, it's just another film by Refn who has done movies like this before.
[sp]The Chang is God thing really makes it more interesting. Also, when Julian got his ass kicked was great to watch. Great music too in that scene.[/sp]
This is the End - 7/10
I found it to be really funny for what the movie was about but it's obviously no cinematic masterpiece. The ending became a bit too corny for me but whatever. Channing Tatum's best role this year.
Pacific Rim - nopulse/10
Compliance
9/10
I originally heard about this because I'm a fan of the Phone Losers of America and the premise of this film is a much more malevolent version of the kinds of things they do.
The film's editing made me giddy, it was so well. There are always these terrible things happening behind the scenes in the back of the restaurant, but after every scene in the back there are shots of people smiling, talking, eating food, and socializing in the front. The juxtaposition of the two completely different emotional states in the same building was well done and has a good impact on the film itself.
No performance was lacking and there was a really solid performance by the female lead who is the victim throughout the entire ordeal.
That being said, this is one of those films that is difficult to watch. As a warning, this is a film about a prank call that is taken WAY too far. Characters are always being told to do increasingly terrible things, and the pacing it takes from being told to do it to them actually carrying out the act makes my skin crawl. For a couple different parts I was telling characters out loud not to do what they were going to do, and I had to stand up at some parts because the tension was too much to handle staying still and sitting down.
I probably won't ever watch this film again, but I would recommend it to other people, especially those who enjoy listening to prank calls.
Pacific Rim: 3/10
i know it's supposed to be flashy and action driven like transformers, but its story is so atrocious that i can't forgive it
there are so many plotholes and cliches that the movie has become borderline retarded, to the level of transformers 3
also gotta love that british ~nerd~ dude just mashing his hands on the keyboard for 3 seconds and producing lines of text/code
man of steel: 8/10
story was too much like thor
man of steel: 8/10
story was too much like thor
Holy shit, an 05'er and only 8 posts?
But how was it anything like Thor besides having a handsome dude as the hero who also has a red cape?
The Colony
6/10
Everything behind it has some nice ideas and neither of them were used to a satisfying extend. I gotta give the film respect for the nice surroundings and props and all, but on the other hand, when you look at the actors you don't really believe they are freezing.
The zombies were just meh, the backstory not there at all.
Super
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1512235/
3/10
It was funny sometimes but hell, shit was fucking ridiculous and dumb.
Super is a sad film not a funny film
only problem I had with Super: [sp]Fucking killing Ellen Page god damnit[/sp]
I thought that was pretty great and bold as fuck
[editline]28th July 2013[/editline]
Its massive important on the point of the film. You can't really be a superhero. Sure films like TDK trilogy show off how it affects your life but Super just goes further and more real. TDK trilogy might be grounded but it's not realistic at all Super is real as hell and dark and depressing. There's a reason superheroes don't exist in real life and Super is a testament to that reason.
I wouldn't call Super "real as hell". There were plenty of silly and unrealistic moments.
But yeah, I get what you're saying and I agree mostly
super owns
Isn't Super the movie where [sp]Dwight gets raped by Ellen Page?[/sp]
I have seen Pacific Rim, 9/10. It was awesome.
So Super is a great movie because it has a good message, 'you can't be a superhero'? And the excessive violence is supposed to be depressing? i found that amusing just like in any Final Destination movie, [sp]except the part where Boltie (Ellen Page) is killed, that was fucked up... and kinda dumb too [/sp]
Overall, i just find the movie to be dumb. But hey,it's just my opinion.

And btw, rotten tomatoes has 49% critic score, so i guess im not the only to dislike the movie.

Whip It - 7/10
upstream color 7.9/10
very interesting movie and concept that i actually enjoy a lot
felt kind of pretentious and "style-over-substance"
it seems like lots of simple elements were made to be confusing or hard to understand in a very shallow way...
but good movie, extremely pretty cinematography and unique concept, i suggest anyone to watch if they have the time.
Good Will Hunting
8/10
Solaris (2002)
why/10
So I decided to give this movie a shot, considering that the book by Lem is rather brilliant. This was by far such a boring movie, I barely made it towards the end. There is so much wrong in this movie, the premise is actually really great but they fucked it so much.
First of the acting is really bad, also George Clooney is terribly miscast in this one. He is supposed to be a psychatrist but he acts so unbelievable and annoying, during the movie there is not even a hint that he is supposed to be a professional psychatrist, he could be some random dude picked up on the street. The acting overall just appears so faked and unnatural.
The next thing is that the plot is badly presented and told. Furthermore it's so cryptic to an extend that it just gets outright boring. There is so much potential wasted. The plot tries to be mysterious and intriguing but it just fails to convey any sense of mystery because it's just so barebones. You never get any real clue. Besides this psychatrist is supposed to deal with the situation and save the others, instead you don't see barely any interaction between the crew and him.
Then this love story is tied into this whole plot, which I found terrible. It was badly told and could not keep my interest up. It just killed the movie so much, it didn't help either that the woman was butt-ugly.
At the end you're just glad that the fucking credits rolled. This movie feels to pretenious and is so forgettable because it just tries so hard to be artistic and philosophical, but missed the things that make such movies so great. Also I feel like Clooney has only been cast for sexual appeal, you see him naked all the time while eating some pasta.
can't be THAT bad
I watched it with an open mind, besides I didn't even read the books entirely. I don't know why but this movie has left an incredible bad taste in my mouth.
can't be THAT bad
It completely missed the point of the book.
[editline]28th July 2013[/editline]
To a point where it insults the writer.
Lem is brilliant. This is not.
hows the russian version then? been meaning to watch that, didnt even know there had been a remake
It's just a very boring lovestory that is very cryptic and uninteresting in a sci-fi format that's bland. This movie has no excitement or does not incite any feelings.
The World's End - 5/10
A disappointing end to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's Cornetto trilogy. There are funny moments, and it even gets quite emotional at times, but it's just not as engaging or likeable as either Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz. It's not terrible, but don't go out of your way to see it.

What do you think of the Tarkovsky version?
The Places Beyond The Pines: 8/10.
Really fucking good film, I didn't expected it to move me so much.
Really liked the acting by Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.
Good Will Hunting 8.5-9/10
Really good movie, had some very clever moments in it, and I particularly like some of the longer monologues or whatever in it, when the therapist talks about his wife, when the main character talks about the NSA job, all of them were very well written and conveyed the feeling I think they were supposed to.
My Dog Skip 9/10
My father tried to watch this with me when I was a kid, unfortunately it was just a little bit after we had lost the dog I grew up with. We were both a blubbering mess half way through the film, like crying our eyes out because it brought back a lot of memories about the dog we just lost, so at the time we just cut it off around halfway through and never revisited it. Watched it earlier today because we had it laying around. Pretty good, then again considering I grew up with dogs through literally all of my life, it struck a certain chord that makes me really like.
And last but not least, The Iron Giant.
Superman/10
And last but not least, The Iron Giant.
Superman/10
It's a better Superman movie than Man of Steel.
Oldboy
8/10
