i loved the original solaris. then i watched the clooney one... mistake
i loved the original solaris. then i watched the clooney one... mistake
I have Clooney's one right next to me and I haven't watched it yet. Wow, I did not expect it to suffer such a large drop in quality. I'm going to watch it to see it with my own eyes.
Superman Returns: 6/10 I decided to watch this Superman movie after watcing Man of Steel. Oh boy theres a big difference. Superman Returns is just... boring. Nothing new. Very cliche, a lot of plot holes, and doesn't show really what Superman can do (except lift an island into space :v:)
So Super is a great movie because it has a good message, 'you can't be a superhero'? And the excessive violence is supposed to be depressing? i found that amusing just like in any Final Destination movie, [sp]except the part where Boltie (Ellen Page) is killed, that was fucked up... and kinda dumb too [/sp] Overall, i just find the movie to be dumb. But hey,it's just my opinion. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/super-2010/ And btw, rotten tomatoes has 49% critic score, so i guess im not the only to dislike the movie. [editline] [/editline] Whip It - 7/10
While I disagree with your Super comment, I agree with your Whip It rating. Never heard of it and decided to give it a shot. It was surprising good.
The World's End - 5/10 A disappointing end to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's Cornetto trilogy. There are funny moments, and it even gets quite emotional at times, but it's just not as engaging or likeable as either Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz. It's not terrible, but don't go out of your way to see it.
Aw, say it ain't so.
Solaris (2002) why/10 So I decided to give this movie a shot, considering that the book by Lem is rather brilliant. This was by far such a boring movie, I barely made it towards the end. There is so much wrong in this movie, the premise is actually really great but they fucked it so much. First of the acting is really bad, also George Clooney is terribly miscast in this one. He is supposed to be a psychatrist but he acts so unbelievable and annoying, during the movie there is not even a hint that he is supposed to be a professional psychatrist, he could be some random dude picked up on the street. The acting overall just appears so faked and unnatural. The next thing is that the plot is badly presented and told. Furthermore it's so cryptic to an extend that it just gets outright boring. There is so much potential wasted. The plot tries to be mysterious and intriguing but it just fails to convey any sense of mystery because it's just so barebones. You never get any real clue. Besides this psychatrist is supposed to deal with the situation and save the others, instead you don't see barely any interaction between the crew and him. Then this love story is tied into this whole plot, which I found terrible. It was badly told and could not keep my interest up. It just killed the movie so much, it didn't help either that the woman was butt-ugly. At the end you're just glad that the fucking credits rolled. This movie feels to pretenious and is so forgettable because it just tries so hard to be artistic and philosophical, but missed the things that make such movies so great. Also I feel like Clooney has only been cast for sexual appeal, you see him naked all the time while eating some pasta.
watch the original andrei tarkovsky owns
Zodiac - 8/10
So I decided to watch Super after this disagreement, and I have to say it wasn't that good. Not that bad to deserve a 3/10 but there was a lot wrong with it in my opinion. The whole thing with [sp]Libby was kinda dumb. Why would a 22 year old girl be so fascinated by a 40 year old loser, even if she had a superhero obsession? She just knew he was a burger cook, but she seemed obsessed with him, even before she discovered his identity. And why would she invite Frank to her house party with ~hip, young adults~ anyway? What was she trying to do, she wasn't gonna show off her costume to him during the party, otherwise she would just invite him over any time.Actually, I was expecting Libby to actually be alone in her apartment instead of having a party, and it would've turned out she was a recluse or something. She was obviously a weird pyschopath, and overly violent and deranged (her creepy laughing while killing people confirms that mos' def), so that would've been the time when she revealed that she's antisocial etc, and tell Frank that she wanted to be his sidekick. Basically what I'm saying is that her personality and hobbies don't fit with her life, I guess.[/sp] I know the length of a movie doesn't determine its quality, but Super really would have worked better if it was longer and things weren't jumping around so quickly. When [sp]Libby raped Frank, immediately after he decides to go to Jacques house, and he and Libby are completely fine with each other as if nothing had happened. Don't you think he would have changed his mind about everything and left Libby or something, then come to his senses or whatever and come back, then go to Jacques' house?[/sp] Also [sp]Libby's death was pointless, and Frank didn't care enough about her to go into some rage for her and murder everyone. I don't know, I just thought it was strange to kill her at that point. And what did Frank do with her body anyway, lol[/sp] I appreciate the message behind the movie, and I enjoyed the last fight, but I feel like they forgot a part of the script and shot anyway, because it didn't feel complete story-wise. I'm gonna get dumbed but that's my opinion. And sorry if I rambled, I watched this way too late. [editline]29th July 2013[/editline] Wow I re-read this and I'm not getting my point across at all [editline]29th July 2013[/editline] Oh yeah and I watched Pacific Rim yesterday, if anyone complains about the story, just remember, it's giant robots fighting monsters. Glorious. Only thing that bugged me was that I couldn't understand what Mako was saying sometimes :(

One of those nights where you can't be arsed to sleep and I just grabbed a film I've been meaning to see: Secrets & Lies Mike Leigh... what a man. He is not only one of the most established and important directors for British cinema but he's an absolute gem of a director in general. Having seen a couple of his flicks, both of which connected with me in ways that can't be compared to much else, these being Naked and Vera Drake (both absolutely essential viewing). Here is an unbelievably personal, sweet film which is written/acted so beautifully. It makes soap operas like Eastenders seem like a pile of waffle... It's a film of reality, not so much a "brutal" one but one that you can easily lose yourself in. It's one of those times where I had no clue what the story would be like. I didn't even realise Timothy Spall was in it, and he gives a dynamite performance... such a respect I have for this guy as an actor now. The long takes are astounding, it's times like these where I really appreciate film. Rare occasion where I'll put this among the list of modern masterpieces. The mother's performance which won a Cannes best actress award was truly superb. This performance was probably butchered in soap operas and the like but for such an intimate film... Leigh knows how to grab you. I didn't even look at the runtime, I thought it was only an hour and half, turns out it was 2 hours and 20 minutes. When a film like this is able to move so fast without the need to pull into cliche soap dumbness and just be real all the way through, it makes it all the more a genuine and rich gem of a film.
Okay so after the discussion last page about the movie Super, i decided to have a watch. I'm not gonna say it was bad, but it was... uncomfortable. It was interesting but not entertaining. Can't say i'd recommend it, yet i give it a 6/10 for really being out there and trying something different.
Howard the Duck - 4/10 I decided to watch this movie due to the issue people say it has and why George Lucas is a terrible person. Well besides the animatronic duck (who scared me), the plot began going in loose ends. So apparently the plot turns from a duck trying to get home to him becoming a galactic hero by battling the Rancor from Return of the Jedi's step-cousin played by Jeffrey Jones. Although I see why it was terrible, I liked it in a cheesy way, same with Masters of the Universe (I retrace my review and give it a 6/10, also Frank Langella owns as a Skeletor) and Scooby Doo 2. Though still I give this movie a mediocre rating due to its mediocrity.
Aw, say it ain't so.
It ain't so
Aw, say it ain't so.
It currently sits on a 91% approval rating on RT. The exact same score as both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Has anyone seen Che. I want to see it, whats it like
Se7en/10 Decent movie, I already guessed (most of) the ending before it happened which subtracts some points since the entire point was to shock you. The theme of the murders was very interesting, and the actual murders were horrifying without having to show you them actually happening (a thing that a lot of movies seem to forget)
It currently sits on a 91% approval rating on RT. The exact same score as both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Critics also thought that World War Z was good and that Man of Steel was worse than Superman Returns.
WWZ was good. Saying that it's a bad movie is just wrong, it's at least average.
WWZ was good. Saying that it's a bad movie is just wrong, it's at least average.
i haven't seen it yet but what fucking zombie movie doesn't have blood? a pg-13 rating is not worth making shit. also, when critics give man of steel a 65% meanwhile this is the end gets 85% and fucking superman returns has a higher rate, you know shit is fucked up. god damn ebert you should not have died, retards are running around doing your job horribly.
Dredd if I had to describe it in a word it would be "badass" I'm not familiar with the comic book and I just had a vague idea of who Dredd was, but damn this movie delivered. I especially liked the photography, is was one of the best aspects and is just really well done. The really contrasting colors and gritty feel of the environment does really work well within the atmosphere of the film and gives it a comic-book feel at times. The action is just great, with a fitting soundtrack and never falls into the obvious and boring. The plot and characters were a little thin, there were a couple of cliches, but overall I had a good time. I'd give it a solid 8/10

This scene had me hypnotised:
started watching Sons of Anarchy lately, mostly because my other series have dried up. Gotta say i'm pretty disturbed by some of the writing.. A girl is nearly raped, and then witnesses a murder which she seems pretty traumatized by.. and then her and [sp]Jack[/sp] have sex in the same room as the body. I'm sorry what? I was pretty creeped out by the near rape scene, but like the last thing you would be doing after that is having sex 5ft from a corpse. I don't even know if I want to continue with the series that was so messed
Yeah the cinematography and visuals in that movie were great. Brave 7.5/10 Enjoyed it from the start, loved all the characters. It didn't turn out at all what I expected (I expected more of an adventure, not a reverse the curse story) but besides that and the fact that the main character had mad skills in archery and combat in general but never actually showcased them in the film kind of disappointed me, I thought it was a great film. Acting was spot on and enjoyable too.
Compliance 8/10 watched this after another dude recommended on here great movie, extremely tense and captivating. i am still kind of reeling from it. do watch it if you like stressful, tense and uncomfortable movies; but i say that in the best way.
Oblivion 8/10 Really love how the movie looked
The Last Temptation of Christ: 8/10...maybe a 9/10 can't decide I'm not really a religious guy but I can't deny when Scorsese works his magic. Dafoe made a great Jesus instead of the faceless godly depictions people got like in Ben-Hur or an unseen presence such as in Quo Vadis. The King of Comedy: 8/10 Highly underrated/overlooked film of Scorsese. Great acting all around, especially from De Niro and Jerry Lewis. better to be king for a night, than schmuck for a lifetime
Thing is... this isn't really a religious movie when you think about it. It portrays Jesus as a more human character than one of a majestic one in say "Passion of the Christ". The soundtrack is really magnificent though.
As human as Jesus was in the movie, he was still equally as divine. It was just a different interpretation of the character that did not solely restrict itself to the gospel. Then again, some of my religious friends refuse to watch it because of the woohoo scene between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I dunno, hearing what they say, it's also sacrilegious so... V:v:V
If a person looks at something "as a Christian" then their view is automatically invalid at best. Nothing can be offensive towards a religion. A religion isn't a person. You didn't make it so god probably won't be angry at you for it's existence. There's no need to whine about something being 'offensive' that isn't truly going to hurt anyone. We need more films that laugh at this sorta stuff. Also we need more films that laugh at atheists (without becoming pro-religion) because they're almost as bad. On topic: That new diehard film: 4/10 , couldn't be bothered to watch it all.
