There's no need to whine about something being 'offensive' that isn't truly going to hurt anyone.
Being offended isn't about "truly being hurt".
The film is kind of against the biblical view of JC, the film was based on a whole new view of the dude. I just the package as a whole represents a whole lot more than the standard jesus story. The soundtrack including a lot more variety and world culture from around the globe only adds to the film itself.
It makes it worth more to me as a film because it represents more of a personal message to the world rather than a message just for religists. It's funny how fundamentalists reacted so badly, only shows their true nature really...
Thinking about it now, I wouldn't say that this was against the biblical view of JC. The thing that seemingly riled people up was that Last Temptation made him human as much as he was 'divine'. He didn't do anything that was strongly against what's said in the gospel (I think) and it did show pivotal scenes that followed the gospel (I also think) such as the Sermon on the Mount, Cleansing of the Temple, The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane and of course, the crucifixion. I do remember the bible saying that Jesus was indeed, tempted in every way and what temptation could be better than to think of living like a mortal man? JC in the end, (i assume people know what happens to Jesus) rejects the final temptation and dies willingly. It's just another layer, another side to the same biblical story of the guy, just different from a traditional view. He isn't like what he was in Ben-Hur, The Greatest Story Ever Told or Passion of the Christ but I don't think that this film is against the biblical 'view' of JC because he is still divine, still the Son of God and still the Messiah.
People who get riled up because it somehow offends their Christian beliefs should really take a step back and calm down. While this film is more open than other religious films, it should still inspire a reverence to the Christian God and Messiah because in the end, what makes Jesus special is not only his special connection to God but because he was also human. A human that was (in the gospels) tempted multiple times, tortured, suffered and crucified. If you're a Christian and somehow don't believe that Jesus could have felt human suffering and doubt, I assume you remember his prayers at Gethsemane and "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" If you do then you shouldn't be pissed at this movie.
The religious people who got pissed at the movie and still refuse to watch it is doing it out of bigotry and ignorance not because of the film's 'blasphemy' and 'anti-christian' meaning.
The Wolverine
Honestly 7/10
it fell apart near the ending imo and theres still stuff left unexplained/vague
its solid for a action flick tho
Upstream Colour
10/10
Amazing movie.
I can't really put into words why I liked it so much; Shane Carruth is amazing.
Twin Peaks pilot episode - 8.5/10.
What an haunting show, just by watching the pilot episode I see why everyone loves this show.
It has really great music and weird situations happening, funny and very dramatic scenes blended together.
It's a show that already has odd moments but knowing David Lynch it probably gets weirder as the show goes on.
The first Season of Twin Peaks is so damn good, Season 2 is kind of hit and miss but the last few episodes are fantastic.
The Nude Bomb - 6/10
Fairly decent comedy flick. I don't see why people didn't like this movie, it was stupid at times it was funny at times, it was Maxwell Smart.
Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four - 4/10
I never knew this movie existed. But I like b-movies, this one was pretty terribly bad. It had semi-bad acting, horrible effects, ah good old Corman formula. Although I didn't like a majority of the characters, I think the best actor in the movie was Joseph Culp who played Doctor Doom sort of well.
Compliance 8/10
watched this after another dude recommended on here
great movie, extremely tense and captivating. i am still kind of reeling from it.
do watch it if you like stressful, tense and uncomfortable movies; but i say that in the best way.
oh god it's so uncomfortable. i really don't do this but i even had to skip the movie a few times, not much but urgh
74/100
K-Pax - 8/10
damn good movie, kevin spacey nails it and jeff bridges is great aswell.
made me tear up near the end, really cool movie weird how i'd never heard of it till now
As human as Jesus was in the movie, he was still equally as divine. It was just a different interpretation of the character that did not solely restrict itself to the gospel. Then again, some of my religious friends refuse to watch it because of the woohoo scene between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I dunno, hearing what they say, it's also sacrilegious so... V:v:V
anyone else find it slightly ironic that willem dafoe was also in anti-christ?
willem dafoe as dracula (nosferatu) was the most creepy thing in history :(
Old Boy
8.5/10
That twist was really fucking weird and wasn't expected at all. It's messed up as hell, but that doesn't make it any less impressive.
It was also nice to see a film where [sp]the good guy doesn't really win[/sp]
Craigslist Joe: Super uplifting, very interesting. 8/10
Craigslist Joe: Super uplifting, very interesting. 8/10
That's one of the most heartwarming movies ever.
Place Beyond the Pines
Gosling really is the man of the hour and to see him team up with the 'Blue Valentine' director again builds up a degree of expectation.
Its quite unusual that the film focuses on the lives of 3 people affected by an event in a one story at a time manner, characters generally weave around each other as a film progresses. Gosling is fantastic as always but once again plays a stormy loner who says very little, don't get typecast Mr Gosling (remind anyone of his Drive character?). Bradley Cooper, the all American, film face co stars and I usually hate this guy but his smug perfection suits the role just right. Actor #3 in the tale is again well cast.
Support is quite good but nothing spectacular. Emory Cohen deserves special mention....because he was fucking shit. I hope to never see him again as I felt his piece was generic, poorly acted and flat. His work would have fit perfectly in a film like Porky's.
Director Derek Cianfrance is a master of building characters around events. Although the events provide the story its the motivations, weaknesses and moral quandies that offer the viewer a reason to get lost in his films. I thought this film was fantastic.
Hi guys. Fuck you Rusty. FP's biggest mouth breathing repost of Evil dead rants. Anyone seen the Pusher films? zzzzzz. Much love.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
eh.. it was fun.
It has a laundry list of problems such as odd editing, jumpy pacing, thin characters and some eye-twitching cgi. but I still found it rather enjoyable. 6ish/10
saw Antichrist.
haven't seen that in a little over 3 years.. I don't really remember why I thought I wanted to see it back then (to me it was pretty much before I got interested in film/art in general).
Grabbed it in HD and feel a lot more in tune with this film. This being Von Trier's most grim film, I thought its effect on me would be less similar to that of his others but it just wasn't. It brought all the same moods back again. The last I saw of him was Melancholia which was also nice.
I never understood how Trier really made me feel tbh. Pretty much all of his films were highly gutwrenching, Dancer in the Dark or Breaking The Waves being the strongest so far, here it's much the same.
I'm not going to say I understand each nook and crannie, but I will say that if you move with it, you'll find yourself being shocked less (i probably watched it back then for that value) and gain more an experience of the concept as a whole.
If I were to study the innards of it, I'm sure I'll get a lot out of it, but for now I'll make do. It's better than I remember for sure.
Firstly, I probably misjudged it all those years ago as some kind of horror erotica, but now it's more a pure psychological film. The only real erotic feelings are towards the start, thereafter it journies through grief, despair and pain (in chapters).
After a watch in HD, it's a more worthwhile flick for me and a solid one in the Trier filmography. Obviously not one to go to first but it's well worth the watch, for whatever reason.

also i watched oblivion. the whole time i kept thinking it felt like someone saw moon for the first time and wanted desperately to emulate it's vibe and storyline points. and im like [sp]if he turns out to be cloned a bunch that is the final straw[/sp]. it was pretty average
Jewdozer you do realize that if you want to come back to Facepunch you aren't going to be able to use any sort of name that relates to Jewdozer, along with your old avatar?
Einstein's definition of insanity literally applies to you
Why was Jewdozer permabanned again? Was it something he/she said in SH?
shitposting in gay rights related threads, is a massive bigot, gays make her sick
ie we don't want you around and certainly keep your opinion out of related threads

i found that the best part of this movie was the supporting cast
from anthony mackie to what's their faces as gabriel and adam, they really held the film up imo.
City Island (2012)
Surprisingly funny, nice ending. 71/100
The Shawshank Redemption
8.5/10
The ending was very satisfying.
I've never seen Shawshank yet. I've always wondered if it really deserves #1 on IMDB.
No film deserves that #1 spot. Still, it's a great movie to watch but don't think of it as 'the best movie ever'.
Tootsie - 6/10
Didn't like the ending.

while I don't think imdb is as bad as people think (gives a really good idea on the general opinion on the movie at the very least), I totally disagree with a lot of stuff on the top 250 list
The Wolverine. 7/10
For me it was a little slow but still good
A Beautiful Mind 83/100
