saw Drive again last night, just made me further realise how opposite Only God Forgives is to it. Not a bad thing neither, for me but many will probably be either offended or bored.
It's just very stark and nightmarish compared to the dreamy nature of Drive (it does has a dream pop soundtrack which gives this away..)
Still probably prefer OGF, gonna see it again.
Snatch - 7.5/10
What a ride... The main complaint I've seen is that it's similar to lock stock & 2 smoking barrels but I haven't seen that so that doesn't apply to me personally. Thinking of seeing it after watching this.
Fucking watch it
Fantastic movie
Redline
9.0/10
Jesus Christ, it's the definition of "hype of top caliber" personified. If anyone actually waited 7 (or even 10 years) for the animation to finally finish and for this movie to come out, then it was totally worth it. Far as I know, 90% of the stuff there is hand-drawn, most of the effects included. It's absolutely incredible. The story itself is also interesting, I'd say above-average. The colorful variety of character is also very pleasant to see. The universe of Redline itself sounds very wide and deep, I would love to see more coming out of it.
Though the ending is cheesy and the middle part of the movie is toned-down from the hype, at least they explain to us more about the other racers, the lore, the race and track themselves.
It's a really great animation film, I recommend it to everyone.
Funny you mention Mud AK'z as I just finished it. I am looking at some of the Shannon films and decided to give this a try. It was fairly good but nothing mind blowing. I felt the film maker must have had a bit of an issue with us females as there was an undertone of female distrust from a good few male characters and some of the scenes suggested this.
The film for me had a similar feel to 'River rat' with Tommy Lee Jones.
Up next is pope joan.
A ban Polly? With my reputation? Nothing wrong with a bit of banter. Always a pleasure conversing with you all on here comrades.

Btw AK'z, did you feel the style of Gosling's mood was a bit similar in both films? The actual characters were in different places but the manner was very similar I thought. Gosling has an impressive arsenal of films behind him now but that quiet stormy type of character will run out of steam at some point.

I'd write more on both films but im off to see Only God Forgives so yea
Also Michael Shannon owns in Take Shelter and Revolutionary Road-- Mud is great but hes barely in it. Hope he gets more attention soon. He was decent in Man of Steel I guess but miles from his best.
Only God for me was a great film, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
eh. The only thing i didn't realy like about the dark night was that it was too serious. The main villain is the joker and yet it's not that funny. I don't mean for it to be silly and camp like some of the past movies (if i hear another freeze pun then i will personally scorch the earth) I just feel like the movie was totaly incomplete. The scenarios that played out were rather random and fast... yet there's no humour to compliment that. It's like a good pasta without any sauce.
Then again; i think every movie should be funny so i probably don't have the majority viewpoint.

ur right mate, that schindler's list sure did miss that slapstick aushwitz comedy what were they thinking.

The Conjuring - 4/5
Solid movie if you don't care about not being scared.
Pope Joan
This was fairly good. They must have thrown a shitload of money at it as the fx were sufficient and the cast high quality. I wrote a piece of shit on the Catholic church a couple of years back and covered the story of Pope Joan so it was interesting to see how they used the story of Joan in the film. This was time well spent. David Wenham from LOTR and 300 still has that silly accent. Could a woman have really fooled all those people?
quiet earth - 7/10
guys wakes up realizes hes alone on earth, does lots of crazy stuff and slowly turns a bit crazy himself, and then the sort-of plot starts and things start to unravel
I was happy to see it was believable sci-fi and that they took some time to explain stuff to the watcher too, even though it didnt take that long
and with only a budget of 1M i think this is an amazing accomplishment, compared to lets say I am legend. this movie actually feels like its an empty world and has more realistic characters.
there were alot of weird cuts and conversations.
and i didnt really get the last shot but i thought it was bit cool
Oblivion
First half - 8/10
Second half - 4/10 wannabe Moon/Independence Day
The Dictator 8.5/10
The Ghost (The Ghost Writer, original title) - 9/10
Very well done political thriller.
Wow, what a good movie. The end will keep you thinking about what you just learned and how it affects what you thought you knew about characters and events that happened earlier.
Great acting, cinematography and characters. It didn't hit me until long after I finished the movie that you never actually know what the name of the main character is.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Oblivion - 6/10
Generic sci-fi action, nice few cinematic touches and good immersion. Lots of plot holes.
Liked how the destroyed moon had a glowing liquid core, that was only discovered in 2011, nice touch.

I saw the devil
7/10
Quite a frustrating movie.

I think it's flattering.
The Wolverine
About a 7.5 out of 10 for me. Plot was pretty thin and certain parts of the movie were just plain boring, but it was still way better than Origins. Pretty solid action and scenery. Hugh Jackman seemed way more intense as Wolverine this time around.
Unfortunately I fucked up and missed the "after-credits" scene. I thought it was after the actual end of the credits. But hey at least I know what it was due to some loud-mouthed people.
The Conjuring - 8/10
Not a bad movie at all. It's tough to find any horror right now that isn't horrifyingly low-budget cheese, by-the-numbers torture porn, or found footage.
ur right mate, that schindler's list sure did miss that slapstick aushwitz comedy what were they thinking.
Schindler's List did have some moments of comedic relief. Maybe one or two, but damn it, I remember smiling and that's a movie you don't smile at.
Speaking of a specific type of horror, are there any good horror/psychological films anyone can recommend? Things like Silence of the Lambs or Shutter Island.

Videodrome.

fuck no
that movie makes me wanna vomit
Casablanca
There is literally nothing I did not like about this film. It is very dramatic for most of the runtime but still manages to pull off a lot of wit and subtle humor that caught me off guard (there was a lot sarcasm). I was laughing a lot more than I expected I would, but the overall tone manages to stay serious.
Unlike a lot of modern films, the characters feel natural and their actions make sense when you put them in the context of their motivations and emotions. And at the center of of it all, it really boils down to a love story, or a story about how two lovers cope with not being able to be together, and Casablanca takes that premise and makes it interesting, possibly to the extent that it can be considered deep.
If you haven't seen this before, you have to see it. I don't know why I waited so long to watch it.

Sorry you know I can't do that, I like coming onto the film section so I'm here to stay. I'm beginning to wonder if your obsession with me is more than just a determinartion to keep me off this forum. If theres anything you need to get off your chest then drop me a PM. Kisses.
I'm sat in with a raging cold so I got a pile of dvd's and an unusual amount of time on my hands. Films work much better than cough meds.
