Predators was better than Predator 2, that movie is bad
I'm not saying P2 is a good movie but Predators disappointed me a lot. Instead of learning the soldiers are tough by their actions we are instead told they belong to a specific top military unit and Brody trying to play an experienced mercenary is just silly.
Brody wasn't that silly IMO. Not as silly as Glover killing a Predator with a disc. Not all of them were soldiers though so I liked the variety (even if I didn't like Topher Grace). I also got a pretty good sense they were bad ass when they didn't snap under pressure when they were being hunted by super alien predators and tried fighting the Predators (Yakuza and Russian guys for instance). Although the original film did have the advantage of showing the hard ass spec op soldiers being bad asses by focusing on them blowing the crap out of terrrorists during the beginning. They also had Arnold and Jesse Ventura in the same team with Apollo Creed tagging along, plus very distinctive and likeable characters for the rest.

Also, The Hunt (jagten), stellar movie. An incredibly well told story about a guy accused of touching a little girl (Mads Mikkelsen) and how it ruins his life. Depressing as all hell. If you're partial to character dramas and the such, I highly recommend it.

It's sort of like Doubt, but way better.

On the subject of depressing movies, Tyrannosaur is a brilliant one. It's one of those "everything is terrible" kind of movies.
gonna watch these both, im in a depressing/emotional story telling movie spree since Side Effects, Take shelter and Never let me go

take a look at "House of Sand and Fog".
I even went to the cinema for that movie with my dad. The effects are so bad, it's not even funny. It's to dark and shaddy. You don't know what the fuck is going on and those teenagers are absolutely annoying and the dialogues are horrible. It's just a clusterfuck.
Although I liked how that girl was smashed to the wall with the Predator bumarang, it was totally unexpected :v:
Actually, AVP-R's special effects are pretty good, and the costumes are excellent. The problem is the movie is so dark you can barely tell. The rest of the movie sucks ass, though. It's a Teen Slasher disguised as an AVP movie, and I have a hard time seeing the guy who played dumbass Sean Garrity from Rescue Me trying to be badass.
The lighting was still awful in that film.
Tiny Furniture - 9/10
I really like Lena Dunhams writing.
Robot and Frank
10/10
Saw this on a plane, was better than I expected.
Just watched In Bruges (it came on HBO and I was bored). It was surprisingly good. I'm not really sure how I feel about it, though. It felt kind of art film-y and was super depressing. The ending made me angry, though. It was vaguely a cliffhanger.
7/10, if it's on you should watch it.
Tyrannosaur - 7.5/10
really liked it. it was similair to Dead Man's Shoes, which i think is still a tad better movie. Like most england movies (is that what you call it?) it has FANTASTIC acting and a very dark realistic storyline
paddy considine is a great actor and director

British.
Also [sp]did you see the twist coming? I sure didn't.[/sp]

[sp]her having killed her husband?[/sp] didnt see it coming but when it did it made alot of sense, they kinda fit together
The Last Stand 9/10
Awesome movie. Great cast too. It's nice to see Schwarzenegger back into acting.
Oblivion 8.5/10
Completely blew away my expectations, the visuals and sound design was amazing and the story had a bunch of awesome twists and was overall very original except for a few cliche parts like the love story and the major parts of the ending.
I was away this week climbing the Cumbrian mountains so the evening back in the bunk house was rather boring so I decided to give The Avengers a shot. I was in the mood for something brainless so what could go wrong? The next couple of hours were a disaster. 2 hours of character posturing and predictable power shifts between good and bad followed. It was superhero by numbers and CGI gymnastics. I want my 2 hours back, I want Ken Brannagh to do the next Marvel film so it can be as great as Thor.
I can't even be bothered to tear this film to pieces.
I thought Thor was much worse than The Avengers.
Fantastic Mr. Fox 9/10
Jagten (The Hunt) - 8.8/10
shows the evolution of how small things can end up causing big changes in a very natural and realistic way
absolutely loved it, one of the best drama movie ive seen
that one scene where Mads Mikkelsen looks at the camera in the church... the closest ive come to tearing up in the movie. in the end i didnt cry though, which is always a bummer :(

thor was terrible dude
[editline]28th April 2013[/editline]
the avengers was just okay, but it was a lot better than thor. and captain america. and pretty much all the rest except iron man 1. (and now iron man 3 which was pretty good)

Thor wasn't that terrible, I think Hulk was far more worst
oh yeah, hulk was atrocious. but thor was terrible also
I really didn't hate thor
If you could get past the cheesiness I think it was a decent movie
Thor was a misnomer which was why it was really not great
It was a movie about the god of Thunder set in another world where he gets betrayed by his brother and cast down bereft of powers, by rights it should have been the darkest and most violent and hard-hitting marvel movie, but it was instead the most light-hearted and kind of cheesy so it was dumb as shit
Iron man on the other hand was suitable for what it was about and worked really well
best to worst marvel movies
iron man 1, the avengers and iron man 3, thor, captain america, iron man 2, the incredible bore
I'd place Iron Man 3 above The Avengers and probably above Iron Man 1.
All the Marvel films are shit but I thought Thor was better because of him going through the test of character. It wasn't just good vs evil but a father teaching a son humility. I'm making this sound like a Haneke but just that extra level of character gave Brannagh that little bit more to go on other than FX. The Viking backdrop was a very tasty filmset for a good bit of fun.
Avengers for me was just another typical run of the mill superhero film with all the usual ups and downs. Johansson can be a great actress but after about 10 pouts and hand on hip postures I started to hate her face. maybe I was just tired.
Aliens
8/10
What a great movie, finally an action movie that is intense and entertaining. It's a really atmospheric and suspensful. It's a lot more fast paced than Alien and I really liked that. The introduction of the military in this movie was great. My worries were that the Aliens would be less scary because we knew how they would act. But Aliens manages to make everything worse, the best part of the movie is when you think "Fuck, how can this get worse?" but then it gets worse. Especially during the first contact with the Xenomorphs and many other situations.
Also the characters were just amazing, at first I thought the Marines were stereotypical badasses. But each of them was quite unique, they were likeable and just cool. Especially with their equipement and weapons. You really cared for them and shat bricks when shit hit the fan.
The soundtrack was also really great and added a lot to the atmosphere, the sound effects overall felt really good. The effects and environement were amazing, everything looks so detailed and real. The installation, weapons, costumes and facilities look damn fine.
The only thing I disliked was the end, it was perhaps a bit overthetop. [sp]Ripley fighting in a loader looked a bit silly. Ripley should have been sucked out ot space, I don't know how she managed to do that. Then she also fucking clums the ladder up under extreme pressure and lack of oxygen.[/sp]
Nevertheless it's an really great movie and finally something that kept me really entertained.

that can be explained quite easily: ripley's just awesome like that.
Johansson can be a great actress
gosh your post is so backwards

Maniac (2012)
elijah wood as a crazy-as-you-can-get serial killer obsessed with mannequins
i liked it
that can be explained quite easily: ripley's just awesome like that.
Yeah, it's not that bad but I was like "holy christ, how can she survive that?". Anyway it was a really good watch.
I really don't know what you guys are talking about, I thought all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies were great. Except Hulk. That was just terrible.
