The Rock 6/10 I really don't see how a bunch of former soldiers who fought to protect people's lives are suddenly so willing to commit terrorist acts that would kill thousands of innocent people because of something that the government didn't do. That was really my biggest problem with the movie. It took Hummel the entire movie to realize his plan was retarded.
The Butterfly Effect 8/10 It was probably one of the most depressing films that I've seen, knowing that [sp]Evan is really just insane and he's made all the memories from scratch. [/sp] Though in a way, it's kind of beautiful how even in his head he will simply [sp]cut all ties with Kayleigh so everything is right in the end. [/sp]
Pitch Perfect - 8/10 love this movie, one of my favorites and I love the music. Plus Anna Kendrick is attractive as fuck Million Dollar Baby - 7.5/10 good example of a movie where the [sp]good guy (or in this case, girl) loses,[/sp] depending on your view. An Education - shit/10 first movie I couldn't finish watching because it was so bad. Like, dull characters and boring setting. How am I supposed to relate?

Can anyone give me a decent review of The Conjuring? All my friends keep raving about it, but from all the trailers I've seen I thought it looked extremely mediocre and cliche.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation 4/10 The first movie is a (very) guilty pleasure of mine, so I figured I might as well give this one a shot. It's... not very good. Honestly this entire movie was pretty baffling. Despite being made a mere four years after the first one, almost everything is changed. Only six characters return from the first movie - two are killed right off the bat. The teams are shrunk down - there are three or four Joes rather than the six or so from the first movie, and the Rock's charisma can't carry all of them. Bruce Willis shows up to play his character from RED and does okay. But the really confusing thing was the tone of the movie. At one point, there's a prison break where a motorcyclist releases explosive electronic fireflies into an underground bunker, fires several guns from his motorcycle, and then dismounts the vehicle as it splits into four rocket-propelled explosive parts. He then storms the place and breaks out a ninja and not-JGL from stasis tanks while warden Goggins attempts to firebomb them all. This is very silly. However, the movie also tries to feature a lot of serious and heavy moments. London is completely destroyed - the whole city is turned to rubble with an explosion more powerful than a nuke. This is done just to raise the stakes, however, and aside from a brief reference to "rebuilding" an hour later nobody mentions the millions dead and billions in damage. This is offset with hilarious Angry Birds and North Korea jokes. The evil members of Cobra - apart from the Commander who still doesn't look as cool as the Doctor did - merely wear BDUs and are indistinguishable from any generic military force. If this movie tried to be more fun - like the excellent cliffside ninja fight or the aforementioned prison break - it would be an all-around better movie. But it isn't, which is a shame.

All of my Hayao Miyazaki's films listed from favorable to unfavorable 1. Castle of Cagliostro (this was the one true Miyazaki film I enjoyed so much, David Hayter voicing the hero, an evil villain, it felt like a fairy tale and it is one of my personal favorites, although this doesn't feature Lupin's traits (his perverism, nasal voice, clumsiness, weird walk). He is shown more as a kind thief with heart. Being Hayao's first feature, I suggest anyone see this before they see other Miyazaki films. 2. Porco Rosso 3. Castle in the Sky (Mark Hamill as the villain, yes) 4. Howl's Moving Castle 5. Princess Mononoke (Big ass wolves) 6. Spirited Away 7. Kiki's Delivery Service 8. Nausicaä and the Warriors of the Wind (just kidding, hate that edited piece of trash HBO made, the English dub with my idol Patrick Stewart is better, in fact Miyazaki was so pissed that when they were planning to do another cut of one of his movies, he had the produces send a katana to HBO saying 'No cuts') 9. My Neighbor Totoro 10. Ponyo (Me and my mother watched this, while she liked it, I just disliked it so much. The visuals were good but the film overall just didn't feel majestic, and Liam Neeson felt like he was on crack when he did the dub for this movie, the child actors were also somewhat annoying. It felt like Miyazaki but then it didn't feel like Miyazaki)
I've only seen Princess Mononoke and that blew my mind (of course, it was 1 in the morning and I had just watched The Thing for the first time). I probably should watch some more anime at some point (I hear Totoro is good). [editline]5th August 2013[/editline] Commando 7/10 The movie drags here and there, and none of the actors are very good (including good ol' Arnie) but the last third is a glorious action setpiece.
Can anyone give me a decent review of The Conjuring? All my friends keep raving about it, but from all the trailers I've seen I thought it looked extremely mediocre and cliche.
It's a good movie. Not massively scary but pretty scary. It's by miles the best exorcism film I've seen. (seen a few of these new ones, not seen The Exorcist tho. All the new ones were terrible) James Wan is a good director and he knows how to nail atmosphere and tension. There are a few jump scares but it's about the build-up rather than pay off which is good. There are a lot of places that they could have chucked a jump scare but they didn't since they're cheap as hell. It's well acted and solidly written, creepy atmosphere and good tension. The characters aren't stupid at all. It kinda lost some points for me at the end but that's just because I hate when supernatural horror gets obvious [sp]when the exorcism happens it was kinda bad but by miles still better than any other attempt at making one good/scary. I normally find them actually cringey.[/sp] I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a scary movie to watch at the cinema. Imo Jason Wan is the best horror director in hollywood right now and has a lot more potential than what he's done. I feel like he's breaking away. Like The Conjuring has a lot of the tropes of a generic exorcism film while changing some of it up, and it doesn't feel like a story we've all seen before even if we have. Imo he's far from peaked and will continue to come into his own. Well, after he finishes with F&F :v: (which should hopefully be good- i was worried since I loved 5 and 6 and rushing so much to get 7 out had me concerned for quality but as long as the script's solid enough I trust Wan to turn out a good film)
Prince of Darkness 5/10 It's basically The Thing just not as good
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs This is definitely one of my favourite animated movies. The animation is absolutely beautiful; the character designs are great and their voices are cast well; it has a lot of visual humour as well as verbal and they work well together. My only complaint is the third act feels weak compared to the first two. If you haven't seen it yet give it a shot.
Wasn't Mr T in that? As well as Bruce Campbell?
Yup. Neil Patrick Harris too.
Robocop II - 7/10 Another good sci fi drug centered story (this time written by Frank Miller). The ending fight between Kain and Robo was best scene in entire movie. However the worst things in the movie is the filler where Robocop turns into a sissy-loser-optimistist and the little boy drug-dealer
And the comically cheesy chase scene where Robo's hanging off that van he's trying to stop and boi-oi-oi-oi-oinnngggs into the telegraph pole... Robocop 2 wasn't a total loss, but it was a pretty paltry movie overall. As a kid I REALLY liked Robocop 2, but having watched it again recently, somehow it just doesn't hold up at all. Robocop 1 still has it though, easily the most enjoyable Robocop themed product ever made and I have to say a HUGE part of that credit can go to Basil Poledouris for creating yet another truly epic soundtrack score. However, to induce the most efficient vomiting escapade ever, simply watch Robocop 3. What the fuck were they thinking with that PG rated nonsense. is it weird that I've never seen a single horror movie
Most horror movies suck in my opinion, mainly because it seems every horror director just wants to make a possession film instead of trying to think of something original, ex. Paranormal Activity remake 666 ooo 2spook. However there are some gems, and horror movies are amazing when its done right, which is why I asked for some last page.
The genre of horror has just degraded into "shock value" rather than any true horror style. There are a lot of authentic surrealist flicks which don't fall into the mediocre dumb horror styles of hollywood. Just takes a long while to find.
The genre of horror has just degraded into "shock value" rather than any true horror style.
That can sometimes be executed well. I enjoyed The Woman in Black.
That can sometimes be executed well. I enjoyed The Woman in Black.
I doubt it's superior to the theatre version, that stuff was haunting.. many other theatre turned movie flicks never matched the play. Still have yet to see War Horse but the play is unbelievably good.
Yeah I've heard the play is very good.
i can't watch horror films. Shock value- predictable psychologically deeps stuff - boring gore- why? It's only when they become funny are they worth watching (child's play for instance)

The World's End It wasn't as good as the other two. That being said it was still very enjoyable; it had a good story, a decent amount of laughs and surprisingly good action sequences. Ending was a bit weird though.
the wolverine - it was nice but the plot was generally just too messy
is it weird that I've never seen a single horror movie
The only horror movie I've seen is The Thing. Horror doesn't appeal to me, I'd rather get my thrills from suspense or drama.
i can't watch horror films. Shock value- predictable psychologically deeps stuff - boring gore- why? Terrible. Red 2- 3/5 About as good as the first one- a solid action/comedy flick, it was good fun and pretty ridiculous. Bruce Willis finally looks like he gives a shit for the first time in years, John Malkovich is hilarious- his expressions are just brilliant. Bringing Bruce Willis' girlfriend along for the ride was a surprisingly good choice as she actually helped with the plot as well as adding the whole thing about Willis and her trying to sort out their relationship working with the spy shit. There was good action and good fun, quirky and funny dialogue and as expected it's full of plot holes and totally unrealistic. But I enjoyed it.
is it weird that I've never seen a single horror movie
I just watch any movie that I think has good direction, writing, execution and preferably good acting. Although people are right in saying that the horror genre is easily degradable to being nothing but cheap gore and jump scares. But I always appreciate the horror movies that can play out my nightmares on screen.
is it weird that I've never seen a single horror movie
Not even The Shining?
