Just got back from it and these are pretty much my exact thoughts. It was a very well-crafted sci-fi action film which I think is pretty rare, but the characters were all super one-dimensional and the story was pretty predictable and the "moral of the story" wasn't as subtle as I think it wanted to be
I did enjoy the visual effects though. Other than that, I thought District 9 was much more enjoyable.
The Adventures of Tintin 8/10 I didn't really know much about Tintin going in to this, but I had heard good things about the character and the movie. And they were true! This is a fun high adventure movie, sort of a young Indiana Jones* thrillride. The animation was great (not that much uncanny valley due to the exaggerated characters, much better than The Polar Express), allowing for fascinating action and captivating setpieces. Even the opening credits were pretty. The humor and the characterization were a little weak, but this movie was all-around enjoyable. *By this I mean a younger version of the Indiana Jones movies. I don't know anything about the Young Indiana Jones franchise, outside of the opening scene in Crusade.
Elysium - 4/10 If you actually give enough shits as to why, you can read my review on the thread.
For someone with Andrew as a avatar, you really have a pickle up your butt I thought you'd be cool for using it Totally not cool bro I'ma give Elysium a solid. 4.5/5. Acting was superb. Copley was amazing, Matt did a wonderful job. The effects were amazing. Baffling. I'd recommend a lot of people see this movie, well worth their money.
Now You See Me... 5/10 and only for the special effects... Honestly, i don't understand where the ending of the film came from, its like they had to find a way to end it so said [sp] lets make the cop guy shrikes son!![/sp] I was so disappointed coming out of the film, the motivations for the characters was never properly explained so i kept thinking "why" throughout the entire movie and for it all just to be neatly wrapped up in around 30 seconds of dialog when NOTHING in the entire rest of the film gave any clues towards that sham of an ending... The characters where wooden, Jesse Eisenberg's character was over acted and although the special effects where good, they distracted from the "magic" of the performances. I mean, [sp] floating around in wierd cg bubbles? [/sp] If you want to go see a good film about magic, go watch the prestige. Hell, that even had weird unexplained scifi stuff in it but it still gets a 8.5/10 (end of rant) I can't seem to understand where the good review for this film came from? And I'ts not that i didn't understand what was going on, I just couldn't really grasp why it was going on..
late to the party but iron man 3 was solid and enjoyable. the villain thing was pretty cool and it was just an overall good movie. nothing spectacular but a really enjoyable comic book superhero flick. if you don't like it for some dumb nerd reason like 'omg they ruined the bad guy because i am the only one ever who knows his character is meant to be different' then fuck you. who cares. [editline]10th August 2013[/editline] if you like the comic book version so much go read the comic book. pretty much all the movies based on comics have taken huge artistic license. it's a normal thing to do, nothin's gonna be a 1:1 adaption. get used to it.
except that the mandarin is iron man's arch enemy and also his most well known foe it's like if they made a batman movie where the joker is [sp]an actor pretending to be a crazy terrorist[/sp], the only difference being that the joker is much more well known than the mandarin and if you're gonna use "but most of the audience doesn't know him so it doesn't matter" as an argument, keep in mind that not even iron man himself was that well known before his movie debut
and if you're gonna use "but most of the audience doesn't know him so it doesn't matter" as an argument, keep in mind that not even iron man himself was that well known before his movie debut
most people knew nothing about iron man and enjoyed him in the film most people knew nothing about the mandarin and enjoyed him in the film i dont get what you're trying to say here
my point is that if he was as well known as the joker im3 would widely be considered a shitty movie

Still, it would have been nice to see a well adapted Mandarin. Oh well, better luck next time(remake).
no it still sucked. it was a bad film. iron man 1 and the avengers are the only decent films in that universe.
weren't you the guy who thought spring breakers wasn't a horrible excuse for a movie and wrote up a novel trying to convince yourself it wasn't shit yes very valuable opinions for sure
yes cos its good [editline]10th August 2013[/editline] anyway yes that last post was definitely hyperbole it isn't terrible but its mediocre. Same for all Marvel films imo.

The Mandarin isn't an actor. Did nobody watch the fucking movie? [sp]he was a decoy. Guy Pearce's character actually says he words "I am The Mandarin".[/sp] It's just a different design more in tune with The Ultimate universe. He still acts the same. Unlike Tony Stark who became his own thing, nobody moaned about that.
All I'm saying is that its outright retarded to dismiss a drastic change in an adaptation from the original work just because the original work isn't that well known Good thing it's not well known indeed, because I'm sure I'd have enjoyed IM3 more if I didn't know anything about the comics, but then again, I'm not arguing about the quality of IM3, my grudge with it (and every other fan's) is that the ENTIRE marketing campaign for this movie was about Ben Kingsley's character, and its just a slap in the face to see how it goes in the movie. I'm sure the people who didn't know and didn't care just went "oh haha, ben kingsley's character is just an actor!", but the producers probably knew they were only gonna get that reaction from the people who don't know about the comic book mandarin

It even says: I really wanted to see Robert duke it out with Ben but...all I got was Pearce, fucking Pearce, and he isn't even [sp] killed by Iron Man, he is fucking killed by Potts [/sp]

I just watched Oblivion. Fucking. Amazing. I give it a 9/10 because I find how the "scavs" were acting before they showed themselves to jack was pretty dumb. [editline]10th August 2013[/editline] also holy fuck the drones scare the shit out of me.
The Lincoln Lawyer 7/10 I don't think I've seen any McConaughey movies before. What are some good ones? I'm planning to see Bernie and Mud eventually.
Drinking Buddies - 8/10 I enjoyed it.
We're the Millers: Saw it for free with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Jason Sudekis is the bomb.com. Not quite at a Horrible bosses, but an easy 7/10.
i cant be the only one that hates jason sudeikis

American History X - 9.5/10 i honestly got a little watery eyed watching this with my older brother. ending definitely hit me pretty hard
Clear History 8/10. Solid movie, pretty funny. Saw a lot of it coming though. It really felt like a 2 hour long episode of Curb your Enthusiasm.
The Ultimate Warrior 8/10 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073835/ The Ultimate Warrior is a 1975 science fiction action-adventure film directed by Robert Clouse. One of the first in a series of post-apocalyptic films from the 1960s and 1970s, it is set in post-civilization 2012 New York City and depicts the struggles of a small enclave of inhabitants attempting to survive in a compound beset with packs of starving pillagers. Following a global pandemic which devastates the population, Baron (Sydow), the leader of a tribe of survivors, has established a small fortified area in the ruins of New York City. Cal (Kelton), a former scientist and a member of Baron’s tribe, has developed plague resistant seeds which allows the tribe to grow vegetables in the barren soil. Their small garden has become an oasis in the ruined city, coveted by the packs of starving, lawless gangs outside. Needing to increase security against the raiders, especially a gang led by Carrot (Smith), Baron recruits a deadly warrior named Carson (Brynner), who has put his skills out for hire. Watched this fantastic film on TV years ago. Then decided to buy the dvd off Amazon located here if anyone wants to watch it: http://www.amazon.ca/Battle-Beneath-Earth-Ultimate-Warrior/dp/B001EZE5JW/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1376197421&sr=1-3&keywords=The+Ultimate+Warrior
American History X - 9.5/10 i honestly got a little watery eyed watching this with my older brother. ending definitely hit me pretty hard
I just watched this a couple of days ago too. Amazing movie, and a kick in the gut at almost every scene of it. Also Edward Norton is a cutie-patootie.
Elysium - 6/10 Story was bad. [sp]They basically killed the whole planet in the long run because an already overpopulated Earth + free unlimited health for everyone = death to Earth. That's the main reason for Elysium. But NOPE they only care for themselves and the little fucking girl.[/sp]
Its kind of a funny story. 8/10 Maybe I have a soft spot for troubled teen romances in films (Like Perks), but it definitely struck a chord.
i cant be the only one that hates jason sudeikis
He was okay in The Campaign.
The World's End: 8.5/10 another great movie from simon pegg, nick frost and edgar wright. Lots of great moments, the action was superb much better than what you get in a lot of action movies, though no surprise there i suppose.
