Kickass 2
5/10
Movie had no heart whatsoever
more heart than the first one lol. I found myself surprised by the emotions it brought out. Parts were ridiculous yeah but there was actually quite good drama and development in it. Quite looking forward to 3.
I want to watch Kick-Ass 2 but sadly no cinema near me is showing it with the original audio.

that puking+shitting at the same time scene really brought out my emotions all right
Has anyone noticed John Rhys Davies has lately been appearing in shitty Sci-Fi movies
He's a working actor.
Kick-Ass 2, 8/10. I didn't want it to end, was loving the action scenes and had a lot of good laughs, nice message at the end too.
How come there isn't a thread for Kick-Ass 2?
Has anyone noticed John Rhys Davies has lately been appearing in shitty Sci-Fi movies
Lately? He's been in starring in shitty scifi movies forever.
I think Indiana Jones, Sliders, and LOTR are his only really great roles.
Olympus Has Fallen

Pacific Rim (second viewing) - 4/5

Five stars for the writing, design, and production
Negative one star for Hudson
One-half star back again for Hicks
Also, I watched this on my buddy's high-FPS interpolation TV which very nearly ruined the whole darn thing for me. Rather than seeing Ripley hanging out in a spaceship, I saw Sigourney and some other actors walking in front of a matte painting on a set. Fortunately after around 45 minutes my eyes and brain finally adjusted.

Do I stop watching the Alien franchise now?
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Kinda feel bad because I haven't even finished it. I didn't even made it to Leo DiCaprio speaking. The visuals were supposed to present this fantastic, dream world. I thought it looked like something out of child's animation or comic book, in a bad sense (Speed Racer comes to mind). Weird editing and fast cuts didn't help at all.
It was enough for me when the modern music started to play at the party, and stopped being a part of background (at the beginning it wasn't that obnoxious).
The best part? [sp]I've never read the book, and never seen the previous films.[/sp]
watched Seven Samurai for the umpteenth time... this time with Michael Jeck's commentary.
Honestly one of the most insightful and interesting things I've ever heard. I had become so attached to the film, but this commentary points a billion things out to me, that no review or article could ever do. It digs further, goes through each detail and teaches so much.
I'm not even a film student and I felt like I was one by just going with it. The guy was hired by Criterion and they scored a bombshell with this fella.
He knows his stuff and he really has a dedication for Japanese cinema it's unreal. Wish I could meet this dude some day. :)

The start of The Great Gatsby was absolutely terrible and it only got halfway decent when DiCaprio came in. I was wanting to leave for the first 30 minutes. So bad. Terrible CGI set designs, hammy acting, awful direction. It gets significantly better but still doesn't ever become very good.
The book is great though and the 70's one with Robert Redford is ok.
Pusher- 4/5
Refn's first feature and it's a brilliant debut. Didn't know much about it other than it's about a drug dealer. This is probably his best film aside Drive. Great performance by the lead actor and one of Mads Mikkelsen's very first roles, this is a great and fresh little film that constantly keeps you guessing as to where it's going. You never really know and I found myself very attached to Frank, the main character, becoming more and more concerned. Well written and brilliantly shot using only hand-held cameras. Definitely recommend this even if you're not big on Refn's later films, it's not really a whole lot like them.

It's worth checking out the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 and, I may be in the minority, but I thought that Alien Resurrection was a lot of fun to watch despite being a bad Alien movie... worth checking out atleast, just don't expect it to blow your mind.
District 9
Fookin' 10/10
V/H/S 2 is fucking cool i'll give it an 8/10 for originality, even though the plot is complete balls

Olympus Has Fallen was a great action movie.
Once I start reading trivia on IMDB I can't stop
After filming was completed, Kara Hayward got to keep the kitten owned in the film by her character Suzy, and Jared Gilman got to keep the backpack used by his character Sam.

Night of the Living Dead director George A. Romero was given a private viewing of the film near his home in Florida. During the scene in which Ed (Nick Frost) yells into the phone, "We're coming to get you, Barbara," Romero was oblivious to the fact it was a direct lift from his film Night of the Living Dead and only found out later after a phone conversation with director Edgar Wright.

When in costume Nick Frost and Simon Pegg often were assumed to be police officers. Many strangers asked them for directions and instead of telling the truth they went along with it. They claimed it made them feel powerful.

At a relatively high 87%, this is the film to score the highest on Rotten Tomatoes that was nominated for the Razzie Award for Worst Picture.
we need a thread for random movie shit
We did have one ages ago and I did entertain the idea of reviving it, but I think it might have been deleted.
Do I stop watching the Alien franchise now?
That depends. If you can get your hands on a copy of the Alien 3 Assembly Cut, then watch that. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT under any circumstances watch Alien Resurrection, unless you're really desperate. The writer (allegedly) made a terrible script to get out of the project and the producers came up with the whole premise believing that it would kill the franchise.
We did have one ages ago and I did entertain the idea of reviving it, but I think it might have been deleted.
I made one like a year ago and it didn't get a single reply.
Olympus Has Fallen was a great action movie.
Explain what made it great. What made it stand above anything that's come before that lets it stand on its own?
Speaking of Aliens, I hated how a good screenwriter like Joss Whedon would come up with a abomination that was AR. Really disappointing
I also don't mind Alien 3 though I disliked how they just killed off [sp] hicks, bishop and newt [/sp] like that

Again, Joss does admit that he wrote the script terribly so he could get fired, but he also has asserted on a few earlier occasions that the director took his script and did everything horribly, horribly wrong.
Even though the story changes it remains a terrible film with a terrible script.
Ironclad (2011)

Not too bad. 7/10, I suppose. Nothing too over the top, but yet not low enough quality to call 'bad' in any sense of the word. Plus, I may or may not have a small thing for Kate Mara, but moving on...
let me in - it was alright. i cant say it was bad since it had some sort of a unique theme, but i do feel like
pretty much nothing has changed from the beginning to the end. [sp]the kid still gets bullied and needs someone else to interfere, and everything else is the same as well.[/sp]
watching Flightplan atm, first thing I'm thinking is how a plane has NEVER fucking looked this good on the inside...
dumb misleading cinematography there.
Wasn't it supposed to be some big ass luxury jet designed by Jodie Foster? If so, then wasn't that the point?

either my contrast setting is too deep or a plane can literally be lit this well in real life..
Watched Exit Through the Giftshop
Loved it, easily an 8/10, but one question;

Who is this guy? I recognize him but I can't put a name on it

Upstream Color
Technically stunning, but I think I missed the point of this film, even after reading several reviews and descriptions.
And the fact, that it was really made by one person - amazing.
