And the fact, that it was really made by one person.
That's just not true.
That's just not true.
Well, mainly made by one person.
[Shane Carruth] served as director, writer, producer, actor, cinematographer, editor, composer, casting director, production designer and sound designer.
At least he had 100% of creative control :v:
Oblivion. 3/10 Extremely predictable plot, but the flying robots were kinda cool. I also have no idea how they could fit so much water in such little space. In the end. she also meets 36,44,67 and 98. This ending wasn't shown due to being inappropriate for young viewers.

pacific rim, 7/10 wouldve been an 8.5 but it seemed like the last 40 minutes or so were kinda lacking, especially the way they stopped focusing on the main character almost completely. still, a great movie despite all the cliches, would definitely recommend. [editline]19th August 2013[/editline] also great that they actually show the human side of the whole story, not like SOME OTHER MOVIE with endless destruction that doesnt show that at all
By no means bad and by no means unoriginal, but I expected a little bit more since so much acclaim has followed it. It's a movie that I've left on the backlog for quite sometime and I regret doing so, but not as much as other films. Part of the problem is that I can't tell if I'm struck by the love story arc because I'm bitter and lonely or because it's a genuinely good love story. While we're at it, my other main gripe is the characterization, most of them are about a half a step up above your standard character archetypes and that normally doesn't bother me very much, but it did here for some reason. However, it's still a very good film with strong direction and even stronger writing. There were certain parts were it got to cutesy or too romantic-comedy, but I didn't mind because they were kind of cool even if I didn't laugh. I guess the real outstanding thing about this movie is the plot and concept which is refreshing because I don't often get to say that. I also appreciate the sort of poetic nature about it. 8.6/10
groudhog day - 9.7689/10 one of bill murray's best. it is interesting to see the transition from optimistic to depressed and back to motivated as time progresses (for the viewer at least). the rutles - 7/10 mashup of snl cast members and monty python crew with cameos by a beatle and a rolling stone. basically a parody of the beatles entire career with plenty of gags throughout.

They prevent it from looking too serious, it still has a little goof to it. [editline]20th August 2013[/editline]
It's my favorite romance movie, personally. I have yet to see Casablanca, though.
Watch Lost In Translation . I'm not sure if that could count as romance though.
Watch Lost In Translation . I'm not sure if that could count as romance though.
Yeah, if you want to fall asleep from overrated art house crap. :smug: Watch the "Before" series for a fantastic love story.
Cloud Atlas I put off seeing this movie for so long and I finally saw it a day ago. Wow, this definitely among my favorite movies I have ever seen. The entire formula is and way the story is presented is interesting and fresh. I was told it was going to be confusing but I think they made the plot fairly easy to follow especially with the transitions showing the similarity between story lines. The soundtrack is awesome, especially the main theme the Cloud Atlas Sextet. Yes, the movie is very long, but I didn't find it tiresome at all. Some of the plot lines were somewhat weaker than the others (Cavendish) but they were still great and entertaining. Its creative and ambitious and had a great ending. 4.5/5
Watch Lost In Translation. I'm not sure if that could count as romance though.
Holy shit, I just did. Goddamn this is perfect, I'm literally crying right now. Foolproof 7/10 plus the last part of the film got me

Pretty sure those big stations didn't "Collect & store" water, weren't they like big fusion reactors that instead stored the energy like some big battery?
I'm curious as to what you mean, but I don't want to see it because your review is harsh and I've heard the same.
If you're not planning on seeing it, then here you go, but personally, I disagree with his review and think Oblivion is at least worth a watch. It's not brilliant, but I thought it was pretty good, especially the visuals Anyway, here goes: [sp]36, 44, 67, and 98 were clones of the main character who was number 59. The main character, Jack, was an astronaut who was assimilated into an alien device that is essentially strip mining the Earth's water supply. When assimilated, he was cloned and had his memory wiped, was brainwashed, and the clones now act as a maintenance crew for the drones that protect the mining equipment. 59 sacrifices himself to destroy the alien device. The 'she' is Jack's wife, Julia, who was part of his astronaut mission, but she was jettisoned from the shuttle before assimilation. Her escape pod landed on Earth, and 59 reunited with her.[/sp] A pretty bare explanation, but it's the best I can do without pretty much giving a whole plot synopsis.
The Machinist (8/10) I really enjoyed this one. Christian Bale plays the main character really well, and seeing him that skinny was disgusting, but it made me appreciate the movie more because of his dedication to the role. I really like movies where there is a story about someone's psychological problems, it's very interesting. For being a low-budget film it's a really good drama / thriller.
Iron Man 3: Well, this was disappointing. There's something about the marketing that I won't specify that gives away half the plot now that I think about it. I liked Robert Downey Jr and Don Cheadle's performance. They hit the mark with their acting and staying true to their characters. Stark oozes style throughout the entire movie and is as badass and calculating as ever. The finale bit where [sp] all the iron man suits form an army and Stark pilots a few of them[/sp] was freaking awesome.... At first. [sp]Stark has a ridiculous number of close shaves with 'the characterless, dull, uninspired baddie' and has the power to order Jarvis to target the stupid twat with the suits at any point yet doesn't. [/sp] Gwyneth Paltrow's performance was weak and most others were mediocre. Her character isn't developed at all. A large portion of the intended humour was pretty naff. There's some good humour and big jokes like [sp] The Mandarin being a run down poor English guy nabbed off the streets that acts in exchange for bitches [/sp] made me laugh. The villains are left undeveloped, and I really didn't like the idea of brain washed people that can burn through metal with their hands. It just felt lame. The ending is terrible in an ironic way. [sp]you try to reinforce the point that by his nature he is Iron Man so you destroy all aspects of that identity including his suits and metal heart. What. Pepper has any chance of character development crushed as she is magically cured of Extremis, which could have created an interesting setup and relationship for the next movie.[/sp] The action is light - it really not that good either and there's rarely any tension because it's not given any time to build before it is calmed. I don't hate this movie. I really wasn't impressed by it either in the end. I'd give it a solid 5/10.
Jack the giant slayer: 5/10. The vast majority of the film is special effects wank and the plot was very standard. But it's not a bad film, just one that i wouldn't watch. The final fate of the crown was realy, realy dumb though. One of those "look at us trying to be clever" things that flops. I suppose it might be alright for those under seven, but there's some violence in the film that the overly sensitive parents of today wouldn't show a child of seven. I also got a lot of stares when the protagonist of the same name as me was given a lecture about taking responsibility. That was interesting. Bad ass- a high six. The plot was predictable but it wasn't done badly (one of those schemes to make everyone sell of their land cheaply). There were a few moments that mad me laugh. It bothers me a little that the protagonist (who looks like he's in his late 50's) got a relationship with a female who's young enough to be his daughter. casa de mi padra (or something like that) I can't speak spanish but i get the feeling that i would have found it much funnier if i could. Since i couldn't... i'd give it a five. Some of the jokes were funny, some of them would have been funny, some of them were just total shit.

watched WWF: Wrestlemania X-Seven The only wrestling event that made it clear how good a wrestling show could be. The acting and athleticism was at its peak. True classic that only got better as it progressed. Such a shame it's not freely available. It's not a movie or a tv program-ish so please forgive the niche.
Drive - 8/10. I loved this movie. Fantastic soundtrack. Left a great feeling in me. Leon - 8/10. Was also great. Can't believe they managed to allow a kid to get such a role. But it was certainly interesting.
I liked Drive when I first saw it but looking back I can hardly remember anything about it and have no desire to re-watch it.
downey jr. specifically said that he won't be up for another iron man movie, thus the ending.
[sp]He's coming back in Avengers 2 and 3 though. And the event where he removes his metal heart already happened in the comics, he just built new suits anyway, I think.[/sp]
that puking+shitting at the same time scene really brought out my emotions all right
i'm terribly late but oh good lord what could someone please explain
Iron Man 3: Despite the criticism surrounding it, I actually really liked this movie.
Evil Dead (remake) second watch this time I watched it with friends. It's just so much fun and better this way, I enjoyed it 10 times more than when I watched it alone at the cinema. I'll give it an 8

This doesn't follow Frank but his friend Tonny, played by Mads Mikkelsen. The film is more competently directed with a better lead performance (possibly skewed cos i think Mads fuckin owns), a better script that is much more human and a better look on family. Great film that was even better than the first, which I loved as well. Pusher III: I'm The Angel Of Death- another 4/5 This is a great way to end the trilogy. This time we follow Milo, who was a villian in the lasts two films. Very interesting to see the villain who we know little about other than hes a kingpin and although he''s quite friendly up front he's quite ruthless underneath, as he needs to be- it's a good decision seeing things from his perspective. It's years ahead and his grasp is slipping. New people and new drugs are coming in. He's getting weaker and people know. He has to sort out a deal gone wrong, fix relations with a competitor, and cope with trying to quit his drug use- all on the day of his daughters birthday! Pusher was over the course of a week, II was a few days, this is a single day. Refn has definitely matured as a director and a writer with every film he makes and it shows. I loved the contrast between the party and the crime in III, as well as the total tonal shift as the film is clearaly in two parts. It also has what is easily one of the best scenes in the trilogy, [sp]where the girls hand is burned so Milo flips and smacks the guy with the hammer[/sp] was amazing, especially considering how low-key the film was up til then. and it just got messier. Such a great film with a great ending as well. I have no idea which one of these is the best, they're all just fantastic. Highly recommend all three.
just watched all of Generation Kill over the course of a week, fuckin 10/10 Ray is the man
just watched all of Generation Kill over the course of a week, fuckin 10/10 Ray is the man
My favorite HBO series of ever. Only series I own on Blu-Ray, love it to death. The ending makes me tear up a bit every time I see it. [editline]20th August 2013[/editline] Also the book is amazing too, check that out if you haven't.
Going to the movies soon, wondering what the top three choices are? I think I'm stuck between Kick Ass 2 and Elysium.
Elysium, definitely. And The World's End comes out on Friday, so I'd figure out what you want to see: sci-fi or comedy?
